Controlling the temperature and fan speed

Variable temperature control (6).

N.B. The temperature automatically decreases when you reduce the fan speed.

Fan speed control (7).

N.B. The fan speed increases automatically when you increase the temperature.

Power switch

The power switch has two settings, 1 - 0. 0 is the off position and in the I position both the motor and heating element are controlled with the control dials (6) and (7).

Operation

  • Make sure the power switch is in the 0 before connecting it to a wall socket. When you are ready to begin work set the power switch to 1 and regulate the temperature and air flow with the controls (6) and (7). Within a minute the heat gun will have come up to the set operating temperature.
  • The heat gun can be placed on a flat surface (with the nozzle pointing upwards), which allows your hands to be free for other work. Avoid getting too close to the nozzle.
  • When removing paint, use a suitable paint scraper and work from the top down. Scrape off paint with smooth even strokes while simultaneously warming the paint in front of the scraper with light back and forth motion. When the paint has become adequately warm you can remove even thick layers with a single stroke. If evenly and properly warmed, paint can be removed for the entire width of the scraper.
  • The scraping edge must be cleaned often to be sharp and effective. Scrape off the paint immediately after heating as the paint hardens quickly.
  • For uneven surfaces, the paint must first be heated until it softens and then be removed with a steel brush.
  • Cover all areas not to be heated, near the area to be heated with non-flammable material.
  • Never point the heat gun towards a window or any other glass surface.
  • The heat gun can be positioned upright on its handle (with the nozzle facing up). The heat gun can be used in this position leaving both hands free. After use the heat gun should be in the upright position and allowed to cool before storage.

Main areas of use: The heat gun is suitable for the removal of oil and latex based paints. It cannot remove stains, primer and wood treatment residue.

N.B. Emissions from lead paint can be dangerous to your health. Always provide for good ventilation when working indoors.

Removing paint/varnish

When you have practiced a bit according to the recommended advice you will notice that your work will become a lot easier. Experiment on a small area first before proceeding onto larger areas.

  • Turn on the power and let the gun gradually come up to operating temperature. The nozzle should be at a distance of about 8 -10 cm from the paint to be removed. After a short while the paint will begin to soften and form blisters.
  • Do not overheat. Otherwise the paint will begin to burn and it will be harder to remove.

Other areas of use

  1. Removing paint and varnish by heating and scraping/coarse scrubbing/ brushing with a steel brush.
  2. Removing stickers and decorations.
  3. Loosening rusty or tightly fastened nuts and metal screws.
  4. Thawing frozen pipes, door locks, pad locks, etc. Do not try to thaw plastic pipes!
  5. Bringing out wood grain before staining or lacquering.
  6. Quick-drying paint and varnish. This is especially useful when colour matching is required by applying several layers of paint.
  7. Removing old window putty before applying new.
  8. Drying wood before processing it.
  9. Shrinking packaging foil.
  10. Waxing skis.
  11. Shrinking heat-shrink tubing.

Care and Maintenance

• Always keep the air inlets/outlets free and clear.
- Use a moistened cloth and washing-up liquid or other mild detergent to clean the heat gun. Never use paint remover, petrol or other similar strong solvents.
