USER MANUAL XpressKit 8617 Relay Viper
Relays are used in a wide variety of automotive applications. Just think of a relay as being an "electrically activated switch". This" switch" is composed of threeCONTACTS, terminals #30, #87A and #87. Activating the relay is done with the COIL terminals #85 and #86. For auto security applications there are numerous features or functions which will require the use of relay (s): starter kill; circuit isolation; trigger inversion; trunk release, ect..
For power door lock applications, DEI offers modules with built in relays to simplify your installation i.e. P/N451T. Refer to separate DEI power doorlock handbooks for detailed information on these applications.
For power window operation, use the DEI power window roll-up module, part number 529T. The Pulse timer 528T is another DEI relay product, it is often used to turn on lights, as a courtesy feature.
Should you prefer the relay alone without the harness and relay socket, use DEI part 610T relay only.
OPERATING A RELAY:
COIL: This part of the relay becomes an electromagnet if:
(-) Ground is applied to terminal #85,18 gauge Black wire
AND
(+12V) power is applied to terminal #86,18 gauge Red wire
ACTIVATING THE RELAY: To activate the relay, determine what the trigger signal will be, and connect the opposite end of the coil to constant power or ground as required.

CONTACTS:
NO #87, 14 gauge Brown wire (Normally Open, connected to #30 when relay coil is energized)
NC #87A,14 gauge Orange wire (Normally Closed, connected to #30 when relay coil not energized)
COMMON #30, 14 gauge yellow wire
When the coil is not energized, 30 (common) connects to 87A.
When the coil is energized, 30 (common) connects to 87.
