1. Read owner's manual

When shipping the DVD player, always use the original shipping carton and packing materials. For maximum protection, repack the unit as it was originally packed at the factory.

This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply in your home, consult your product dealer or local power company.

3. Grounding or Polarization

(North America versions only) This product is equipped with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.

The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

5. Water and Moisture

Do not use this product near water-for example, near a bath-tub, wash bowl, kitchen-sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement; or near a swimming pool and the like.

Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning

7. Power-Cord Protection

Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, playing particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product.

Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

These discs are easily broken and may cause serious personal injury and product malfunction. 21.Damage Requiring Service Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a)When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product. c) Ifthe product has been exposed to rain or water. d) Ifthe product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Do not leave rubber or plastic products in contact with the DVD player for a long time. They will leave marks on the finish. © The top and rear panels of the DVD player may become warm after a long period of use. This is normal and not a malfunction. © When the DVD player is not in use, be sure to remove the disc and turn off the power. Notes on Locating © When you place this DVD player near a TV, radio, or VCR, the playback picture may become poor and the sound may be distorted. In this case, move the DVD player away from the TV, radio, or VCR. Notes on Cleaning Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. @ For stubborn dirt, soak the cloth in a weak detergent solution, wring well and wipe. Use a dry cloth to wipe it dry. Do not use any type of solvent, such as thinner and benzene, as they may damage the surface of the DVD player. @ If you use a chemical saturated cloth to clean the unit, follow that products instructions

Warning : Cleaning and adjustment of lenses

and/or other components of playback mechanism should be performed by a qualified service technician. To Obtain a Clear Picture The DVD player is a high technology, precision device. If the optical pick-up lens and disc drive parts are dirty or worn down, the picture quality becomes poor. To obtain a clear picture, we recommend regular inspection and maintenance (cleaning or parts replacement) every 1,000 hours of use depending on the operating environment. For details, contact your nearest dealer. Notes on Moisture Condensation Moisture condensation damages the DVD player. Please read the following carefully. © Moisture condensation occurs, for example, when you pour a cold drink into a glass on a warm day. Drops of water form on the outside of the glass. In the same way, moisture may condense on the optical pick-up lens inside this unit, one of the most crucial internal parts of the DVD player. Moisture condensation occurs during the following cases. © When you bring the DVD player directly from a cold place to a warm place. © When you use the DVD player in a room where you just turned on the heater, or a place where the cold wind from the air conditioner directly hits the unit. © In summer, when you use the DVD player in a hot and humid place just after you move the unit from an air conditioned room. © When you use the DVD player in a humid place. Do not use the DVD player when moisture condensation may occur. @ lf you use the DVD player in such a situation, it may damage discs and internal parts. Connect the power cord of the DVD player to the wall outlet, turn on the DVD player and leave it "ON" for two or three hours. If a disc is present inside the machine, remove it immediately. After two or three hours, the DVD player will have warmed up and evaporated any moisture. Keep the DVD player connected to the wall outlet and moisture condensation will seldom occur.

PLAYBACK During playback, the disc rotates at high speed. Do NOT lift or move the unit during playback. Doing so may damage the disc.

= WHEN MOVING THIS UNIT

When changing places of installation or packing the unit for moving, be sure to remove the disc and return the disc table to its original position in the player. Then, press the POWER button on the remote control or on the front panel and then disconnect the power cord. Moving this unit with the disc loaded may result in damage to this unit. M INSTALLATION e Select a stable place to the side of a TV set or stereo system to be connected to the unit. © When using the unit with a stereo system, install the speakers a little bit away from the TV if these are not magnetically shielded. © Do NOT install the unit on top of a TV or color monitor. Install the unit away from equipment that may be affected by magnetism, such as a cassette deck. AVOID INSTALLING IN A PLACE THAT IS: Exposed to direct sunlight Exposed to humidity or where ventilation is poor Extremely hot or cold Exposed to vibration Exposed to dust Exposed to oily smoke, steam or heat (for example, a kitchen) = DO NOT PLACE AN OB] ECT ON TOP Do NOT place an object on the unit.

= DO NOT BLOCK VENTS

Do NOT use the player on top of a long-fibre carpet, bed or sofa, and do not cover it with a cloth etc. This will prevent heat radiation and could result in damage. = AVOID HEAT Do NOT place the unit on equipment generating heat, such as an amplifier. When installing the unit in a rack, place it on the lowest shelf possible (however, not where it is exposed to dust) and separated from the amplifier to avoid the heat generated by the amplifier of other audio equipment.

# CAUTION : WHEN PLACING THE UNIT

IN A STEREO RACK WITH GLASS

DOORS Be sure there is ample space between the unit and the glass doors when opening the disc table using the remote control. If the disc table opens against strong resistance, such as a closed glass door, damage to the unit may result. M CONDENSATION Moisture will form in the operating section of the player if the player is brought from cool surroundings into à warm room or if the temperature of the room rises suddenly. When this happens, player's performance will be impaired. To prevent this, let the player stand in its new surroundings for about an hour before switching it on, or make sure that the room temperature rises gradually. Condensation may also form during the summer if the player is exposed to the breeze from an air conditioner. In such cases, change the location of the player.

= SWITCH POWER OFF WHEN NOT

Depending on the strength of the TV or radio broadcast signal, having the TV or radio ON while power to the unit is ON may result in stripes on the TV screen or noise. However, this is not a malfunction of this unit or the TV or radio. In such a case, switch the power of the unit OFF. = POWER-CORD CAUTION Handle the power cord by the plug. Do not pull out the plug by tugging the cord and never touch the power cord when your hands are wet as this could cause à short circuit or electric shock. Do not place the unit, a piece of furniture, etc., on the power cord, or pinch the cord. Never make a knot in the cord or tie it with other cords. The power cords should be routed in such a way that they are not likely to be stepped on. À damaged power cord can cause a fire or give you an electrical shock. Check the power cord once in a while. When you find it damaged, ask your nearest service center or your dealer for a replacement.

Always keep the disc clean. © If you cannot wipe off the dust with a soft cloth, wipe the disc lightly with a slightly moistened soft cloth and finish with a dry cloth @e Do not use any type of solvents such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners or anti-static for vinyl LPs. They may damage the disc @) X On Storing Discs @e Do not store discs in a place subject to direct sunlight or near heat sources. @ Do not store discs in places subject to moisture and dust such as a bathroom or near a humidifier. @ Store discs vertically in a case. Otherwise, the speakers may be damaged by a sudden high volume sound. © Turn off the receiver before you connect or disconnect the DVD player's power cord. If you leave the receiver power on, the speakers may be damaged. © Change the setting of speaker output in Initial Setup, from Multichannel to Two channel. The DVD player stores that location in its memory, unless you turn off the player or open the disc tray. Opening the disc tray or switching to standby cancels this function. Press RESUME. The DVD player resumes playback slightly before the location where you stopped playback. The Resume function is cancelled if the DVD player is disconnected from the wall outlet, or if power is interrupted. The DVD player resumes playback from the place of the stopped chapter. The resume function will work up to 8 minutes if no other commands are received by the unit. After 8 minutes the unit will automatically switch to standby. If you want to continue playing after an interruption of more that 8 minutes you can use the PAUSE function.

The disc is not placed properly on the disc table. Region No. does not conform with this unit. The operating section of the player collects dew. The disc has been loaded upside down. The selected function does not operate for that disc. First stop the disc (press the STOP button), then start playback again. When the power is turned off by power failure or unplugging of the power cord, settings will be cancelled. When unplugging the power cord, please be sure to do so after first cancelling the Display window “STANDBY" indicator by pressing the STANDBY/ON button on the main unit or the remote control unit. Connection is incorrect. Operation (settings) of TV or AV amplifier is not appropriate The multi aspect setting is not appropriate. This player is compatible with Macro-Vision System copy guard. Some discs include a copy prevention signal, and when this type of disc is played back, stripes etc., may appear on some sections of the picture depending on the TV. (This is not a malfunction.) This player is compatible with analog copy protect technology copy guard. Some discs include a copy prevention signal and the copy guard system will prevent proper playback. The remote control is too far from the player, or the angle with the remote sensor is too sharp. The batteries are exhausted. Some TVs that have wireless remote control functions may be operated with this remote control. The disc is dirty. e The connection plugs are not inserted fully into the terminals or are not connected. The connection plug or terminal is dirty. Audio cable connection is wrong. Connection is made to the stereo amplifier's PHONO input terminal. The pause mode is engaged. Stereo amplifier operation is wrong.
