Frequently Asked Questions - JC-201M Hanseatic

How do I set the temperature on my Hanseatic JC-201M wine cellar?
Use the buttons on the control panel to select the desired temperature. The range is 5°C to 18°C. Wait 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. Refer to the manual for precise button functions.
What is the ideal temperature for storing red wine?
Red wines are best stored between 12°C and 18°C. For long-term aging, keep them at the lower end of this range. The JC-201M can maintain this range easily.
Can I store both red and white wine in the same cellar?
Yes, but it's optimal to set a single temperature. A compromise is 12°C to 14°C, which works for most wines. For dual zones, separate cellars are recommended.
How do I clean my wine cellar?
Unplug the unit. Use a soft damp cloth with mild detergent to wipe interior and exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Clean condenser coils yearly with a vacuum.
Why is my wine cellar making noise?
Some noise is normal: the compressor and fan may cycle on and off. If it's excessive, check that it's level and not touching walls. Unusual sounds may require service.
Where should I place my wine cellar?
Place it in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit (10 cm rear clearance). Do not install outdoors.
Does the JC-201M have a lock?
Yes, it comes with a lock and key to secure the contents. Use the key to lock/unlock the door handle.
How do I reverse the door opening direction?
You can reverse the door by transferring the hinges to the other side. The manual includes step-by-step instructions with diagrams. Requires basic tools.
What should I do if my wine cellar is not cooling enough?
Check that the thermostat is set correctly, the door is sealed, and condenser coils are clean. Allow 24 hours after setting. If still warm, contact customer support.
How long is the warranty period?
Hanseatic typically offers a 2-year warranty from date of purchase. Keep your receipt and register the product online. Check your manual for exact terms.

- Abide by the nominal capacity.

Maintaining quality

Storage temperature

The optimum storage temperature varies depending on the type of wine, due to the fact that wines have different shelf lives and age differently.

Wine Storage temperature
Semi-sparkling wine+6 °C to +10 °C
Sparkling wine +10 °C
White wine +10 °C to +12 °C
Red wine +12 °C to +14 °C
Rosé wine +12 °C to +16 °C
  • Avoid strong and frequent variations in temperature.
  • Ensure that there is enough space between the bottles to promote the circulation of air inside the appliance.
  • The appliance's interior temperatures can increase and lead to increased energy consumption
  • if the glass door is opened frequently or for a prolonged period.
  • if the temperature falls below or exceeds the prescribed interior temperature.
  • if a large number of bottles is put into storage at once.
  • if the appliance's nominal capacity is exceeded.

Storage period

The storage periods of wines differs and is dependent on many factors. Use the following storage periods as a general guideline:

Wine Storage period
Rosé wine, light red wine1 to 2 years
White wine 3 to 5 years
Red wine approx. 6 years
Very sweet wines +15 years

Additional factors

  • Make sure to move the wine as little as possible during storage. Frequently moving the wine around can lead to rapid ageing.
  • Ensure that the wine is kept as far away as possible from light and stored in the dark.
  • Do not turn the LED light (4) on frequently. Exposure to light may affect the taste of wine.
