Frequently Asked Questions - SWKS 2400 E1 SILVERCREST

How do I descale the kettle?
Fill the kettle with a mixture of water and descaling solution (or white vinegar) up to the maximum line. Boil and let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. For heavy limescale, repeat the process or use a specialized descaler.
Can I boil less than the minimum water level?
No, boiling less than the minimum level may cause the kettle to overheat and trigger boil-dry protection. Always ensure the water covers the heating element.
Why does the kettle turn off before boiling?
This could be due to limescale buildup on the heating element. Descale the kettle regularly. Also, check if the lid is closed properly; steam escaping can affect the auto shut-off sensor.
Is the kettle suitable for all stovetops?
No, this is an electric kettle designed for use on its power base only. Do not place it on a stovetop or any heat source.
How do I clean the filter?
The removable scale filter can be taken out and rinsed under running water. Use a soft brush to remove any stubborn deposits. Replace it securely before use.
What is the maximum water level?
The maximum capacity is 1.7 L, clearly marked inside the kettle. Do not exceed this level to avoid boiling over.
Can I use the kettle with the lid open?
No, the kettle must be used with the lid closed. The auto shut-off function relies on steam detection, and an open lid may cause it to malfunction or lead to burns.
Why is there white residue in the water?
This is limescale from hard water. It is harmless but can affect taste and performance. Regular descaling will reduce buildup.
How long does it take to boil?
With 2400 W power, a full 1.7 L kettle boils in approximately 3-4 minutes. Boiling time depends on water temperature and volume.
Is the kettle BPA-free?
Yes, the parts that come into contact with water are made from BPA-free materials, including stainless steel and high-quality plastics.

Preparation

Unpacking

Remove all components of the appliance and the operating manual from the carton.
◆ Remove all packing material.

Disposal of the packaging

The packaging protects the appliance against transport damage. The packaging materials are selected from the point of view of their environmental friendliness and disposal technology and are therefore recyclable.

SILVERCREST SWKS 2400 E1 - Disposal of the packaging - 1

The recirculation of packaging into the material circuit saves on raw material and reduces the amount of waste generated. Dispose of packaging material that is no longer needed according to the regionally established regulations.

NOTICE

▶ If possible, preserve the appliance's original packaging during the warranty period so that, in the event of a warranty claim, you can pack the appliance ideally for its return.

Initial use

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

▶ Always and only use freshly drawn mains water in the kettle! Do not consume any water that is not certified as potable. If you do, you are taking a risk with your health!

Before starting the appliance up, make certain that ...

  • the appliance, plug and power cable are in a serviceable condition and ...
  • all packaging materials have been removed from the appliance.

1) Open the lid by pressing on the release button ①.
2) Fill the appliance with water up to the "maximum" mark and let it come to a full boil once - as described in the next section.
3) After it has boiled, pour this water away.
4) Rinse the kettle out with clear water.
5) Refill the appliance with water up to the "maximum" mark, and then bring it to the boil. When done, pour this water away also.
6) Rinse the kettle out with clear water.

The appliance is now ready for use.

Boiling water

▶ Never place the electrical base ④ close to water – this would be a potentially fatal risk!

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

▶ Always use freshly drawn water. Do not consume any water that has already stood in the kettle for longer than one hour. Do not reboil water that has cooled down. Always pour old water away. Microbes could have formed in it!

NOTE

▶ Always ensure that the ON/OFF switch ③ is in the "0" position (off) when the mains plug is unplugged and the appliance is standing on the base ④. If not, the device could heat up unintendedly as soon as the mains plug is plugged in again.

1) Lift the kettle off of the base when filling it!
2) Press the unlocking button ① and open the lid.

NOTE

▶ When filling it, hold the kettle upright. This is the only way to read the markings on the scale ② correctly.

3) Fill the kettle...

  • at least as far as the "minimum" mark, so that the appliance does not overheat,
  • no further than the "maximum" mark, so that boiling water cannot spill out.

4) First close the lid, then place the kettle on the base ④, so that it sits securely on the base ④.

5) Now insert the plug into the mains power socket.

6) Push the ON/OFF switch ③ downwards (position "I") so that it engages.

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

For safety reasons you should not open the lid when the water is boiling or extremely hot. There is a risk of scalding.

7) The light inside the scale ② shows that the appliance is now heating the water.

8) As soon as the water is boiling, the appliance will switch itself off, the ON/OFF switch ③ clicks upwards and the light goes out.

INFORMATION

This appliance is fitted with an overheating protector: if the appliance is switched on accidentally, without any water in the kettle, the appliance automatically switches itself off. If, for example due to a non-closed lid the appliance boils dry, the appliance switches off automatically. In such cases first allow the appliance to cool down before using it again.

▶ Let the appliance cool sufficiently before cleaning it. Risk of Burns!

WARNING - PROPERTY DAMAGE!

▶ Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning materials. These could attack the upper surfaces and irreparably damage the appliance.
■ Clean the exterior surfaces and the power cable with a slightly damp cloth. Be sure to dry the appliance well before taking it back into use. For stubborn soiling use a mild detergent on the cloth. Ensure that there are no detergent residues in and on the appliance before it is taken back into use.
■ Rinse the inside of the kettle out with clean water.
If there are any deposits in the kettle, wipe out the inside surface with a moist cloth, or use a washing up brush or bottle brush. Then rinse the kettle out with clean water again.

In the event of scale deposits

Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy consumption and reduce the service life of the appliance.

Descale the appliance as soon as scale deposits become apparent.

■ Use a descaler designed for household appliances (e.g. for coffee machines). Proceed as detailed in the instructions provided for the use of the decalcifying agent.
■ After descaling, rinse the appliance with lots of clean water.
