Frequently Asked Questions - SPG6075AZ SMEG

How do I install the Smeg SPG6075AZ splashback?
First, ensure the surface is flat, non-porous, dry and dust-free. Use 2 mm spacers to create a gap. Remove the adhesive backing and press firmly. Seal the edges with Low Modular Neutral Cure Silicone and let it cure for 2-3 hours before removing spacers.
What type of silicone should I use?
Only use Low Modular Neutral Cure Silicone that complies with BS 5889 A. Other adhesives may damage the glass finish.
Can I cut the glass splashback to size?
No, the glass is pre-cut and should not be modified. Drilling requires a suitably trained person with correct machinery. Always check dimensions before installation.
How to clean the glass splashback?
Use hot water with a mild soap and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners as they can scratch the surface.
Is the splashback heat resistant?
Yes, tempered glass splashbacks are heat resistant, but avoid direct contact with extremely hot pans or flames. Maintain a 2 mm gap and use spacers to prevent heat transfer to the worktop.
Can I drill into the splashback?
Drilling should only be done by a professional with specialized equipment. The product is fragile and corners are especially susceptible to cracking.
What if the glass cracks?
If the glass cracks, replace the panel immediately. Contact Smeg for a replacement glass panel. Do not use the product until replaced.
Can I install the splashback over existing tiles?
Yes, if the tile surface is flat, non-porous, dry and dust-free. Use extra silicone to fill any uneven gaps, but ensure a maximum 5 mm variation.
How long does the silicone take to cure?
Follow the silicone manufacturer’s instructions. Typically, initial set takes 2-3 hours, and full cure up to 24 hours. Do not use the appliance until fully cured.
Does the splashback come with a template?
No template is included. You must measure the area precisely before ordering. Use a tape measure and check dimensions as shown in the assembly guide.

  • Use the product until the silicone has cured (follow the manufacturer's instructions).

To prevent product failures ensure that:

  • All fitting steps are completed.
