Frequently Asked Questions - SMG9075NE SMEG

How do I install the Smeg SMG9075NE splashback?
First, ensure the wall is flat, dry, and dust-free. Use the provided 2 mm spacers to maintain a gap. Apply low modular neutral cure silicone (BS 5889 A) evenly on the back. Press the splashback firmly, hold for a few seconds, and seal the edges after 2-3 hours when silicone has cured.
What tools are needed for installation?
You will need a tape measure, sealant gun, silicone sealant (BS 5889 A), and 2 mm spacers. These are not included.
Can I install the splashback directly on the hob or worktop?
No, you must use spacers to maintain a 2 mm gap between the splashback and the hob or worktop. Filling this gap with silicone ensures a proper seal.
What type of silicone should I use?
Only use Low Modular Neutral Cure Silicone (BS 5889 A). Other adhesives may degrade the glass finish.
How do I clean the glass splashback?
Use hot water with a mild soap detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, as they can scratch or damage the glass.
Is the glass tempered?
Yes, the splashback is made of toughened glass for safety and durability.
What should I do if the glass cracks?
Cracked glass cannot be repaired. Contact Smeg service for a replacement. Handle broken pieces with care using gloves.
What is the required gap around the splashback?
A 2 mm gap must be left between the splashback and all surfaces, including walls, worktop, and hob. This gap is filled with silicone.
Can I drill into the glass splashback?
Drilling should only be performed by a trained professional with proper equipment, as the glass may crack if not handled correctly.
How long does the silicone take to cure?
Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the silicone tube, typically around 2-3 hours for initial set and 24 hours for full cure.
