What is the impedance of the SB-PT96 speakers?

Both center and surround speakers have an impedance of 8 Ω. Use only with amplifiers rated for 8 Ω.

How do I connect the speakers to the amplifier?

Ensure the amplifier is off. Connect gray (+) wires to positive terminals and blue (-) wires to negative terminals. Never short-circuit the wires.

Can I mount the surround speakers on the wall?

Yes, the surround speakers (SB-PS96) can be wall-mounted using screws. Screw into a thick, hard part of the wall that can support over 10 kg.

What is the maximum power input for the center speaker?

The center speaker (SB-PC96) handles up to 160 W (Music) or 80 W (DIN). Do not use an amplifier with higher output.

How should I clean the speakers?

Use a soft, dry cloth. For heavy dirt, use a cloth dipped in mild soap-and-water solution. Never use alcohol, paint thinner, or benzine.

Why is there distortion when the center speaker is near the TV?

Vibration may cause distortion. Place the center speaker on a rack or shelf, not directly on the TV. Keep it at least 5 cm from walls due to the bass reflex port.

What should I do if the speakers affect the TV picture?

If irregular coloring appears, turn off the TV for 30 minutes to demagnetize. If the problem persists, move the speakers farther away.

Can I remove the speaker grilles?

No, the speaker nets cannot be removed.

What types of audio sources can cause speaker damage?

Avoid playing distorted sound, howling from microphones, FM noise, or continuous test signals. Reduce volume when adjusting sound quality or turning the amplifier on/off.

Where should I place the surround speakers for best sound?

Attaching the surround speakers to the wall

Screws

Note

Screw the wood screw into a thick and hard part of the wall.

The surface you attach the speakers to must be able to support over 10 kg.

The front, center, and surround speakers should be placed at approximately the same distance from the listening position.

The angles in the diagram are approximate.

Positioning for best effect

How you set up your speakers can affect the bass and the sound field. Note the following points.

• Place speakers on flat, secure bases.
• Placing speakers too close to floors, walls, and corners can result in excessive bass.
• Cover walls and windows with thick curtain.
• Place the surround speakers on the side of or slightly behind the seating position, about one meter higher than ear level.
• Vibration may cause distortion in the picture if the center speaker is placed directly on the television. Place it on a rack or shelf.
• Place the center speaker at least 5 cm from the wall as it has a bass reflex port in the rear.

CAUTION

Do not attempt to attach these speakers to walls using methods other than those described in this manual.

c Connections

Confirm the colors of the cords to ensure correct connection. Incorrect connection can damage the unit.

• Before making the connections, switch OFF the power to the amplifier.
• Use with an amplifier having 8 impedance for these speakers.
• Be sure to connect only positive (+) gray wires to positive (+) terminals, and negative (−) blue wires to negative (−) terminals.

To prepare the speaker cables, twist the vinyl tip and pull off.

CAUTION

To prevent damage to circuitry, never short-circuit positive (+) and negative (−) speaker wires.

Note

After you have completed set-up and connection, wind the excess cord and keep together with string.

CAUTION

The only receivers or amplifiers you should connect to these speakers are those whose rated output does not exceed the above figures.

Using a receiver or amplifier with higher ratings than listed above can cause abnormal sounds to occur because of excessive input, damage to the receiver or speakers, and fire. If equipment is damaged in any way or unexpected trouble occurs during playback, unplug the system from its outlet and call a serviceman for help.

Notes on speaker use

You can damage your speakers and shorten their useful life if you play sound at high levels over extended periods.

Reduce the volume in the following cases to avoid damage

• When playing distorted sound.
• When the speakers are receiving howling from a microphone or record player, noise from FM broadcasts, or continuous signals from an oscillator, test disc, or electronic instrument.
• When adjusting the sound quality.
• When turning the amplifier on or off.

Other notes

If irregular coloring occurs on your television

These speakers are designed to be used close to a television, but the picture may be affected with some televisions and set-up combinations.

If this occurs, turn the television off for about 30 minutes.

The television's demagnetizing function should correct the problem. If it persists, move the speakers further away from the television.

The speaker nets cannot be removed.

Keep magnetized items away

Magnetized cards, bank cards, commuter passes, etc., can be damaged if allowed too near speaker magnets. Clocks may also be affected.

Avoid locations such as described below.

• In direct sunlight
- Near heating appliances or other sources of heat
- Where the humidity is high

Maintenance

To clean these units, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.

If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth dipped in a soap-and-water solution or a weak detergent solution.

• Never use alcohol, paint thinner, or benzine to clean these units.
• Before using chemically treated cloth, read the instructions that came with the cloth carefully.
