Frequently Asked Questions - PS12 OSD Audio

Where is the best placement for the PS12 subwoofer in a room?
For optimal bass response, place the subwoofer in a corner or along a wall. Avoid placing it directly against a wall to minimize vibrations. Experiment with placement near your listening position for best results.
What is the correct way to connect the PS12 to my AV receiver?
Use a single RCA cable from the subwoofer pre-out on your receiver to the LFE input on the PS12. If your receiver lacks a sub-out, use speaker-level inputs: connect speaker wire from receiver's speaker outputs to the subwoofer's speaker-level input, then from subwoofer output to speakers.
What does the phase switch do and how should I set it?
The phase switch (0° or 180°) adjusts timing of the subwoofer relative to your main speakers. Set to 0° initially. If bass sounds weak or boomy, switch to 180°. Listen for the setting that gives the fullest, most integrated bass.
How do I set the crossover frequency on the PS12?
Set the crossover knob to match your main speakers' low-frequency limit (typically 80 Hz for THX). If using LFE input on receiver, set crossover to maximum or 'LFE' to let the receiver handle it.
Why is my subwoofer not producing any sound?
Check power cable connection, ensure power switch is ON, and verify signal cable is firmly connected. If using auto-on, ensure a signal is present. Also check receiver's subwoofer settings (ensure sub is enabled and not muted). Try a different cable.
What causes a humming or buzzing noise from the subwoofer?
Hum is often due to a ground loop. Try using a ground loop isolator on the RCA cable. Ensure the subwoofer and receiver are on the same electrical circuit. Avoid running audio cables parallel to power cords.
Can I use the PS12 in a car audio system?
No, the PS12 is designed for home audio use with 110-120V AC power. It is not compatible with car electrical systems (12V DC). For car use, use a dedicated car subwoofer.
How do I clean and maintain the PS12 subwoofer?
Unplug the subwoofer before cleaning. Wipe the cabinet with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use any liquids or cleaners. Ensure ventilation grills are not blocked. Check connections periodically.
Where can I find replacement parts or repair service for the PS12?
OSD Audio products are not user-serviceable. For repairs, contact OSD Audio customer support or an authorized service center. Spare parts may be available through their service network. Do not open the amplifier module.
What are the power requirements for the PS12?
The PS12 operates on 110-120V or 220-240V AC (selectable via voltage switch on back panel) at 50/60 Hz. Maximum power consumption is 400W. Use a dedicated power outlet.

  1. Volume Control

Adjusts output volume.

  1. Power/Protect LED indicator

Illuminates green indicating the unit is turned on while switch 10 is in "Normal" position, or when receiving signal in "Auto-On" mode. Illuminates red during standby/protect mode.

  1. Variable Crossover

Sets crossover frequency between 40Hz and 180Hz. For stereo music or home theater, set the frequency to a level that sounds pleasing to your ear and the overall reproduction of your audio. If using LFE signal, set crossover to 180Hz.

BACK PANEL CONTROLS (Figures 2-3)

  1. Autosensing

Sets the power-on/off option of the PS10/12. Set it to on for manual control using switch 10. Set switch to Auto-On for automatic power-on when signal is present; after 10 minutes with no signal, unit will enter standby mode. For Auto-On the power switch is left in "ON" position.

  1. Phase Control

Normally set to Nor. In rare instances, due to your unique sound system or the size of your room, the output may be out of phase. If the sound is hollow or the volume knob has little effect, set to Rev to compensate for these factors.

  1. Line Level Input

Connect to the line level, subwoofer, or LFE output of your receiver, pre-amp, or power amp. Do not use if Speaker Level Inputs are connected. For single mono input: plug into either R or L terminal, or use a y-adaptor.

  1. Speaker Level Input

Use when line level outputs are unavailable from your receiver, pre-amp or power amp. Your existing stereo speakers can share these terminals, allowing you to add bass to any stereo or home theater system. Always maintain speaker polarity by connecting positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on this unit with corresponding terminals on your existing speakers and source. Do not use if Line Level Inputs are connected.

  1. Main Power Inlet & Fuse Holder

Accepts IEC type line cord. A fuse located in the integrated holder provides safety from fault conditions: replace fuse with one of same type and rating only.

  1. Main Voltage Selector

Voltage selection switch is preset to 115V (USA). For use in areas which require 230V contact your dealer. Fuse must be of type and rating marked on amplifier for use at local mains voltage.

  1. Power Switch

Turns unit on and off in Normal power mode. Leave set to "ON" when using Auto-On power mode.
