Frequently Asked Questions - TL250 DSC

How do I connect the DSC TL250 to my alarm panel?
Connect the TL250 to your DSC alarm panel using the provided telephone cable. Plug one end into the TL250's LINE port and the other into the panel's telephone output. Then connect the TL250's PHONE port to your wall jack using another cable.
What does the LED indicator on the TL250 mean?
The LED shows communication status: solid green indicates power and ready, flashing green means transmitting, red indicates fault or no line connection.
Can I use the TL250 with a VoIP phone system?
The TL250 is designed for standard analog telephone lines. VoIP may work but is not guaranteed. Ensure your VoIP adapter supports analog signaling and check with your provider for compatibility.
How do I test if the TL250 is communicating properly?
Perform a communication test from your alarm panel. The TL250 will transmit a test signal. Observe the LED: it should flash during transmission. Also verify that the central station receives the test.
The TL250 is not powering on. What should I check?
First, verify the power supply is connected and providing 12V DC. Check the fuse inside the TL250; if blown, replace with a same rating (often 1A). Ensure the alarm panel supplies power if using that method.
Can I mount the TL250 outdoors?
No, the TL250 is for indoor use only. It must be placed in a dry, temperature-controlled environment to avoid damage.
What telephone cable length is supported?
Maximum cable length between the TL250 and the wall jack is 100 feet (30 meters) using standard 4-wire telephone cable.
How do I clean the TL250?
Disconnect power and use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquids, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
Is the TL250 compatible with older DSC panels?
Yes, the TL250 works with most DSC panels that have a telephone communicator interface, including PowerSeries and even some legacy models. Check your panel's manual for compatibility.
What should I do if the TL250 fails to communicate with the central station?
Check telephone line connection and ensure dial tone is present. Verify panel programming for the correct phone number and account ID. If issues persist, contact your alarm installer or DSC support.

USER MANUAL TL250 DSC

T-Link TL250 Internet alarm communicators create fully supervised security solutions between protected premises and central monitoring stations. The simple-to-install modules save end-users money by taking advantage of their existing networks to provide secure Internet communications over a private network (LAN/WAN) or the Internet, between the control panel and the Sur-Gard™ System II/III central station receivers. This method provides flexibility and an always-on, two-way line of communication. The TL250 communication stream is small and requires only a limited amount of network bandwidth. This ensures that the integrity of the data being transferred never becomes compromised. To reduce security risks, the TL250 utilizes industry-leading, 128-bit AES encryption, polling and hardware substitution protection.

Value Added

To ensure dependable and timely event notification, the TL250 is capable of reporting to two different receiver IP addresses—a back-up feature that allows communication to continue in the event one of the IP addresses is inaccessible. The TL250 can also be programmed to communicate events to two different e-mail addresses. These e-mail addresses can be associated with a personal computer, pager, enabled mobile phone or PDA.

Flexibility

Programming the TL250 can be accomplished locally using the control panel keypad or T-Link Console software over the IP network connection made directly to TL250's Ethernet port.

By interfacing to TL250's four on-board programmable inputs, the unit can be configured to operate as a stand-alone communicator for interfacing existing third-party control equipment. Full two-way communication with the TL250 is achieved using the Sur-Gard System II or the Sur-Gard System III and its IP line card, the SG-DRL3-IP.

Secure Communication

The TL250 utilizes industry-leading 128-bit AES encryption, polling, hardware substitution protection, and application-specific hardware to help eliminate security risks.

Because the TL250 communication stream is minimal and draws only small amounts of network bandwidth, data transfer remains timely and accurate.
