Baccarat®

- Position the lid so that the steam vent is directed away from you. Lift and remove the lid carefully to avoid scalding from escaping steam.
- Always have the lid placed correctly into position on the removable ceramic pot throughout operation of the Slow Cooker unless it states in the recipe to have it removed.
- Do not allow water from the lid to drip into the Slow Cooker housing, only into the removable ceramic pot. Lift and remove the lid carefully and angled away from you to avoid scalding from escaping steam.

- Never use the Slow Cooker without adding water, this will cause damage.
- Do not fill the Slow Cooker beyond 2/3 of its capacity. When cooking food which expands during cooking, such as rice or dehydrated vegetables, do not fill the cooker to more than half of its capacity.

The recommended cooking times are approximate. Cooking times can vary depending on ingredients and quantities in recipes.
-
High humidity, altitude, cold tap water, ingredients and minor fluctuations may slightly affect the cooking times in the Slow Cooker.
- Do not place removable ceramic pot or glass lid into or under cold water while still hot.
- Care should be taken when handling the Slow Cooker after cooking, ensuring that the slow cooker body and parts are not touched as these may still be hot due to residual heat.
- It is best not to leave the Slow Cooker unattended when in use.
- If you are not home during the slow cooking process and the power goes out, throw away the food even if it looks done.
- If you are at home during the slow cooking process and the power goes out, finish cooking the ingredients immediately by some other means such as on a gas stove, on the outdoor grill or at a house where the power is on.

About Slow Cooking
- Slow cooking has always been the best way to prepare a nutritious hot meal with minimum preparation and maximum free time away from the kitchen.
-
Traditionally slow cooking has catered mainly towards soups and casseroles but with this oval ceramic pot you can also produce most modern family meals and dinner party dishes. This pot is convenient and can be taken straight to the table for serving. (Always place the ceramic pot on a heat resistant mat or surface).
-
This method of cooking is ideal for preparing tougher cuts of meat, giving them the long, gentle simmering that ensures they become tender and full of flavour.
- Important: The slow cooker works by building up heat and maintaining an even temperature. To get the best cooking results, do not remove the lid during cooking since this will lose heat and therefore slow down the cooking process and may extend the cooking time. The glass lid allows you to monitor the cooking progress without interrupting the cooking time.
Suitable Foods for Slow Cooking
- Most foods are suitable for slow cooking methods, however there are a few guidelines that need to be followed.
• Make sure all frozen ingredients are well thawed out. -
Cut root vegetable into small, even pieces, as they take longer to cook than meat. They should be gently sautéed for 2-3 minutes before slow cooking, ensure that root vegetables are always placed at the bottom of the pot and all ingredients are immersed in the cooking liquid.
-
Trim all excess fat from meat before cooking since the slow cooking method does not allow fat to evaporate.
- If adapting an existing recipe from conventional cooking, your liquid will not evaporate from the slow cooker to the same extent as with conventional cooking
- Never leave uncooked food at room temperature in the slow cooker.
• Do not use the slow cooker to reheat food. - Uncooked red beans must be soaked and boiled for at least 10 minutes to remove toxins before use in a slow cooker.
- Insert a meat thermometer into joints of roasts, hams, whole chickens to ensure they are cooked to the desired temperature.
Tips for Slow Cooking
- The Slow Cooker must be no more than half-filled at capacity for best results.
- Slow cooking retains moisture. If you wish to reduce this, remove the lid after cooking and turn the control to LOW and reduce by simmering for 30 to 45 minutes.
- The lid is not a sealed fit. Do not remove unnecessarily as the built up heat will escape. Each time you remove the lid allows 10 minutes extra cooking time.
- If cooking soups, leave 5cm space between the top of the cook pot and the food surface to allow simmering.
- Most meat and vegetable recipes require 8-10 hours on LOW. 4-6 hours on HIGH and 5-7 hours on AUTO.
- Do not use frozen meat or poultry unless it is thoroughly thawed.

Baccarat®
- Some ingredients are not suitable for slow cooking. Pasta, seafood, milk, and cream should be added towards the end of the cooking. Many things can affect how quickly a recipe will cook, water and fat content, initial temperature of the food and the size of the food.
- Pieces of food cut into small pieces will cook quicker. A degree of "trial and error" will be required to fully optimize the potential of your slow cooker.
• Vegetables usually take longer to cook than meat, so try and arrange vegetables in the lower half of the pot - After food is cooked switch off and leave covered with the lid. There will be enough heat in the ceramic pot to keep warm for 30 minutes. If you require longer to keep warm switch to the LOW setting.
- All food should be covered with a liquid, gravy, or sauce. In a separate pan or jug prepare your liquid, gravy or sauce and completely cover the food in the ceramic pot.
- Brown meat and onions in a pan to seal in the juices this also reduces the fat content if separated before adding to the ceramic pot.
Care Guide
• Always switch off, unplug, and dismantle before cleaning.
- Never put the power unit in the water or let the card or plug get wet.
- Do not wash parts in the dishwasher.
- Do not clean with scouring powders, steel wool pads or other abrasive materials
Cleaning the Ceramic Pot and Glass Lid
- Wash the ceramic pot and glass lid in warm soapy water, with a sponge or a dish cloth, rinse thoroughly and dry.
Cleaning the Slow Cooker Unit
- Wipe any residues off the outside of slow cooker with a damp cloth.
Storage
Once clean store in a dry cupboard.
Disposal
Dispose of the appliance in accordance with the local environmental laws and guidelines.
