Frequently Asked Questions - TFJ-12 T-Rex

What is the maximum load capacity of the T-Rex TFJ-12 hydraulic jack?
The maximum load capacity is 1200 kg (1.2 tons). Do not exceed this limit to avoid damage and safety hazards.
What type of hydraulic oil should I use?
Use only SAE10 grade hydraulic oil. Do not use brake fluid, transmission fluid, or motor oil as they can damage seals.
How do I check and refill the oil level?
Turn the release valve counterclockwise to fully retract the ram. Remove the inspection plate and oil fill plug. With the jack upright (handle socket down), the oil should be level with the bottom of the fill hole. Top off if needed, but do not overfill. Replace plug and plate, then test operation.
Why won't the lifting arm raise when pumping under load?
First, ensure the drain valve is fully closed by rotating the handle clockwise. If the problem persists, check oil level and top up if low. Also purge air from the hydraulic system.
What should I do if the lifting arm sinks under load?
Follow the steps for 'arm not raising' (close valve, check oil). If the issue continues, the jack may need repair by an authorized technician.
Can I use the jack outdoors in rain or snow?
No. Do not use the jack outdoors in frost, rain, or strong winds. It is for use on firm, level ground in dry conditions.
Is it safe to work under a vehicle supported only by the jack?
Absolutely not. Never work under a vehicle supported only by the hydraulic jack. Always use adequately rated jack stands (axle stands) for support.
How often should I lubricate the jack?
Lubricate all external moving parts (foot roller bearings, lifting arm bolts, cylinder bolts, pumping arm bolts) every 3 months using penetrating oil, silicone spray, or Teflon spray. Never lubricate the cylinder rods.
What do I do if the lifting arm cannot be lowered?
Check if the tension spring has become unhooked or broken. Re-hook or replace the spring. Also clean and lubricate all moving parts. If there is too much oil, drain excess by opening the drain valve.
How should I store the jack when not in use?
Store the jack in a horizontal position in a dry location. Ensure the lifting arm is fully lowered and the handle is in the upright position to protect the mechanism. Keep away from children.

First time operation:

  1. Loosen the oil filling plug a couple of turns before inserting the handle and extension. Once you have inserted the handle pump the arm approx. 6 pumps.
  2. Close the drain valve – the vehicle jack is now ready for use.

Lifting the vehicle:

  1. Locate your vehicle on an even, firm surface and secure the vehicle against rolling as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
  2. To ensure safe lifting, position the jack at a 90° angle to the vehicle and under the appropriate jacking point (see the manufacturer's instructions).
  3. Insert the handle into the socket and close it by rotating clockwise until it stops.
  4. Insert the handle in the pumping arm and pump the handle until the saddle is in contact with the vehicle.
  5. Check again that the jack is seated correctly.
  6. Continue pumping the handle until the vehicle has been lifted to the desired height.

CAUTION: Observe the vehicle carefully during the lifting operation. The jack should move in the direction of the vehicle during lifting. Should this not be the case, there is a strong possibility that the vehicle will slide off the jack.

  1. Put the handle out of the pumping arm. (Risk of accident!)
  2. Secure the load with suitable jack stands before commencing work on or under the vehicle.

CAUTION: Working on or under the vehicle without first appropriately securing the raised load is prohibited! (Risk of accident!)

  1. After you have finished working on the vehicle, carefully twist the handle in small increments in a counterclockwise direction until the vehicle begins to move downward.
  2. Once the vehicle is firmly on the ground, you can turn the handle one half turn to return the arm back to the bottom starting position.

TFJ-12 Hydraulic Trolley Jack

  1. Before lifting the load, check that the arm is properly secured into the socket..

  2. All moving parts must be lubricated in accordance with the operators' manual and maintained on a regular basis.

  3. If the jack is broken during using, get a new jack, with which you can lift the car, so that the defect jack can be removed. If you are unsure, please ask for professional help.

Storage and Care:

  1. When the vehicle jack is not in use, the lifting arm should be in the lowest position and the handle in an upright position to protect the precision mechanics from damage. The vehicle jack must be stored in a horizontal position and in a dry location. Ensure the jack remains in its original condition. Do not undertake any modifications to the device.
  2. Use only SAE10 (SAE: Society of Automotive Engineers) grade, special-purpose hydraulic oil for the pump. Dispose of all used and spilled oil appropriately.
  3. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner to clean the jack. All external moving parts, e.g., the foot roller bearings, fastening bolts of the lifting arm, fastening bolts of the lifting arm cylinder, and fastening bolts of the pumping arm must be well lubricated regularly every 3 months.

IMPORTANT: Never lubricate or grease the rods of the pump and lifting cylinder.

  1. All maintenance and repair work must be performed by suitably qualified personnel and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

CAUTION: Do not use the jack if there are any missing, loose, or broken parts!

Maintenance

ATTENTION: Surface corrosion will occur on metal surfaces over time and the rate of oxidation depends on factors such as proximity to the ocean and humidity or condensation of water vapour on metal surfaces. To mitigate this, WD40 can be used to remove surface corrosion then, when applied periodically, it will prevent rust from forming.

General

  • Need to check the state of the markings and that the markings remain as the initial one.
  • Jacks shall be maintained and repaired in accordance with the manufacturer instructions. Such maintenance and repair shall be carried out by qualified persons.
    • No modifications shall be carried out which adversely affect the compliance of the jack with this standard.

Disposal

The packaging is made entirely of recyclable materials, which you may dispose of at local recycling facilities. Contact your local refuse disposal authority for more details of how to dispose of your worn-out product. Dispose of the hydraulic oil in an environmentally compatible manner. Ask your local repair garage to see to its disposal or find your nearest waste materials collection centre.

Check Oil Level

  1. Turn release valve counterclockwise to allow ram to fully retract. It may be necessary to apply force to the saddle for lowering.
  2. Remove the inspection plate.
  3. With the jack in the level position, remove the oil fill plug. Stand jack in vertical position with handle socket down. The oil should be level with the bottom of fill hole. If not, top off. Do not overfill. Always fill with new, clean hydraulic jack oil.
  4. Replace fill plug and inspection plate.
  5. Check jack operation.
  6. Purge air from system as required.

Troubleshooting

NOTE: The instructions below must not be carried out while the vehicle jack is In use. The vehicle jack is equipped with a safety valve. It has been configured to allow the vehicle jack to lift loads up to 2 tonnes. The safety valve must not be modified or adjusted in any way!

Problem 1: The lifting arm won't raise when pumping under load.

  • Check whether the drain valve is fully closed. Close it by rotating the handle clockwise.
  • Check the oil level by placing the vehicle jack in a horizontal position.
    • Not enough oil. Top up the hydraulic oil and purge the hydraulic system.

Problem 2: The lifting arm is sinking under load.

- Follow the instructions provided for "Problem 1". Should this still not eliminate the fault, the vehicle jack needs to be repaired by an authorized repairer.

Problem 3: The lifting arm can't be lowered.

  • The tension spring for the lifting arm has unhooked or broken. Re-hook the spring or replace the broken spring by an equivalent new spring.
    • The vehicle jack presumably needs lubricating. All moving parts must be cleaned and lubricated or greased.

IMPORTANT: The rods of the pumping and lifting cylinder should never be lubricated or greased.

• Too much oil in the hydraulic system. Screw out the drain valve and drain out the excess oil.
