Frequently Asked Questions - EX-880R Baumr-AG

What type of oil should I use in my Baumr-AG EX-880R lawn mower?
Use SAE 10W-30 engine oil. The oil capacity is about 60 mL. Always check the oil level before each use and refill if necessary. The mower is not supplied with oil, so you must add it before starting.
What fuel does the EX-880R require?
Use unleaded petrol (gasoline) with an octane rating of 91 or higher. E10 (up to 10% ethanol) is compatible. Do not use E85 or diesel. Always use fresh fuel and avoid storing the mower with fuel for extended periods.
How do I adjust the cutting height on this mower?
The cutting height is adjusted by moving a lever on each wheel. There are 5 positions: +20, +10, 0, -12, and -25 mm relative to the base setting. The cutting range is from 28 mm to 30 mm. Adjust all four wheels to the same setting for an even cut.
Why won't my mower start?
Common causes: empty fuel tank, incorrect choke position, old or contaminated fuel, a fouled spark plug, or a wet spark plug from over-choking. Check fuel, set choke to CHOKE position for cold start, clean or replace the spark plug (gap 0.6-0.7 mm), and ensure the spark plug is dry.
How often should I change the oil?
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Use 10W-30 oil. Drain the old oil from the oil fill cap/dipstick while the engine is warm, then refill to the MAX mark.
How do I clean or replace the air filter?
Remove the air filter cover, take out the foam element. Wash it in warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely. Oil the foam with a few drops of engine oil and squeeze out excess. Reinstall. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
Can I use the mower in wet grass?
It is not recommended to mow wet grass. Wet grass can clog the mower deck, reduce cutting performance, and increase the risk of slipping. Also, electrical components (if any) should be kept dry. Always mow when grass is dry for best results.
How do I change the blade?
Disconnect the spark plug cap. Tip the mower on its side (with air filter up). Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt. Replace with a genuine Baumr-AG blade (available via QR code in the manual). Tighten the bolt securely. Ensure the blade is balanced before use.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always read the manual before use. Wear sturdy shoes, long trousers, and eye/hearing protection. Keep bystanders and pets away. Never mow indoors. Refuel only when the engine is cool and turned off. Use the mower only on slopes less than 15 degrees. Do not operate if tired or under influence.
Where can I find spare parts for the EX-880R?
Spare parts such as blades, air filters, spark plugs, and oil are available from Baumr-AG or authorized dealers. Scan the QR code in the manual to access a parts portal. Always use original parts to maintain safety and warranty.

Spark Plug

Baumr-AG EX-880R - Spark Plug - 1

If the spark plug is damaged (cracked insulator, broken or eroded electrodes etc), replace it. • Always use spark plugs of the correct "heat range".

The spark plug is used to ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the engine. The spark plug has electrodes on one end and an electrical terminal on the other. The spark plug requires regular maintenance.

Cleaning and Gap Checking

The spark plug should be checked and cleaned as per the maintenance schedule.

  1. Remove any carbon deposits on the spark plug (A) electrodes (B) with a wire brush.
  2. Clean the spark plug threads and the electrical terminal (C) on the top.

To check and adjust the spark plug "gap":

  1. Use "feeler" or "thickness" gauges (X) to measure the existing gap. The gauge must drag a little when being slid between the electrodes (2) – this means the measurement is fairly accurate.
  2. Adjust the gap to within specification. If the gap needs to be reduced, gently tap the electrode as required. If the gap needs to be increased, use pliers to gently pull the electrode as required.
  3. Measure the gap again and ensure it is within the specified range before re-installing the spark plug.

B X B A C

Removal/Installation

  1. Pull the electrical lead (B) from the terminal on top of the spark plug (A).
  2. Clean the area around the spark plug so that no dirt or other material can enter the engine when the spark plug is removed.
  3. Use the spark plug tool (C) to remove the spark plug (rotate left).

To re-install the spark plug:

  1. Place the spark plug in its hole and screw it in (rotate right) until "finger tight".
  2. Use the spark plug tool to tighten the spark plug approximately one quarter turn (do not over-tighten).
  3. Place the electrical lead over the spark plug terminal and push it down so that it connects firmly with the terminal.

NOTE: Location of the spark plug varies between models and engines.

Maintenance

Baumr-AG EX-880R - Maintenance - 1

Any works/ adjusting on the machine to be only performed with the engine switched off, unplugged and when the mowing blade is not moving. Switch the engine off and remove the socket plug before k on the engine. Wait until all rotating parts have stopped and the appliance has cooled down.
