Frequently Asked Questions - BOAP-1/2 Truper

How do I prime the BOAP-1/2 water pump?
Fill the pump casing with water through the priming plug before starting. The pump is self-priming up to 2 meters, but initial priming is required.
What is the maximum suction height?
The maximum suction lift is 8 meters (25 feet). Ensure the suction pipe is airtight.
Can the pump run dry?
No, running dry can damage the seals and impeller. The pump has dry run protection but avoid extended dry operation.
How often should I clean the filter?
Check and clean the inlet filter every month or more frequently if pumping dirty water. A clogged filter reduces flow.
What type of liquid can I pump?
Only clean water free of solids and debris. Do not use for corrosive, flammable, or abrasive liquids.
Why is the pump losing prime?
Check for air leaks in the suction line, a clogged foot valve, or a damaged seal. Ensure the suction pipe is fully submerged.
What is the maximum operating pressure?
The maximum pressure is 2.5 bar (36 psi). Do not exceed this to avoid damage.
How do I winterize the pump?
Drain all water from the pump and pipes. Store in a frost-free area to prevent freezing damage.
Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, but use a heavy-duty cord rated for the pump's wattage (500W). Keep the cord length under 30 meters to avoid voltage drop.
Where can I find spare parts?
Spare parts are available through Truper authorized dealers or online. Common parts include impeller, seals, and capacitor.

USE

Agricultural applications in irrigation systems for mini-spraying or area spraying where the pressure requirements are larger due to the height of the irrigation system and the minimum pressure required for the correct functioning of spraying or nebulization. In this type of applications the use of centrifugal pumps is not recommended due to the low output pressure they handle.

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES

Truper BOAP-1/2 - GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES - 1

WARNING Read and understand all the instructions. Failure to follow all the following instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or severe personal injury.

Carefully follow the following instructions to gain the best performance and a long duty cycle of the pump.

In the event of any problem please contact your Truper Authorized Service Center.

OPERATION CONDITIONS

These pumps have been designed to pump neutral and clear liquids with no suspended abrasive solids; under temperatures no higher than 104 °F Adequate for vegetable farms irrigation. Pumping non-aggressive liquids and to increase low pressure in the aqueduct network.

SET UP

The pumps shall be set up in a dry place, adequate ventilation and temperature not exceeding 104 °F (Fig. A). Set the pump in place on a solid flat surface using the adequate bolts to prevent from vibration. The pump shall be set up in a horizontal position to allow the bearings to work properly. The suction pipe diameter shall not be smaller than the suction inlet. If the suction height exceeds 157.4" use a pipe with a large diameter. The output pipe diameter should be chosen to resist the flow speed and required pressure in the force points. The suction pipe shall be set up with and upward angle facing

natural_image Technical line drawing of a mechanical assembly with a motor and base plate (no text or symbols)

Fig. B

The suction pipe shall be set up with and upward angle facing the suction inlet to prevent air pockets. (Fig. B). Double-check the suction pipe is completely hermetic and to be submerged in water at least one meter to prevent air bubbles. It is advisable to install a check valve between the output and the speed adjusting flow gate to prevent a dangerous water column that exceeds 65.6 ft

The pippes should always be installed using supports (Fig. C) to prevent the transmission of voltage to the pump body. Be careful not to damage any part as a result of over-tightening the pipes when setting them.

POWER CONNECTION

Truper BOAP-1/2 - POWER CONNECTION - 1

The installer is responsible to set up the power connections into the power source in compliance with the corresponding mandatory regulations:

  • The international rules require that fixed installations shall incorporate a device assuring the omnipolar disconnection from the power source.
  • Double-check the specifications in the nameplate regarding the pump capacity and the capacity values in the line are the same. (Fig. D).
  • Connect the pump to a physical grounding system. Then connect the phases according to the diagram in the terminals block or in the nameplate.
  • Our monophasic motors are protected against overload by using a thermal device (Overcurrent cut) installed in the motor winding.

Truper BOAP-1/2 - POWER CONNECTION - 2

PRIMING

Fill the pump completely with clean water before starting it. Remove the threaded cap set in the upper side of the pump body and fill with water up to the orifice level. (Fig. E). Screw on the cap and start the pump. This operation shall be made before starting the pump for the first time; when it has not been used for long periods of time or when there is air in the system.

Truper BOAP-1/2 - PRIMING - 1

WARNING Never operate the pump when empty. If it happens accidentally turn off the pump, wait it cools down and prime it using clear water.

MAINTENANCE

Our pumps do not require maintenance only if the following precautions are observed. When there is risk of freezing, drain the pump removing the drain cap set in the lower side of the pump body. Make sure the pump is primed when starting it back. Verify regularly that the foot valve is clean. If the pump is to be inactive for long periods of time (for example, during winter) (Fig. F) is advisable to drain it completely, rinse it with clear water and store in a dry place. If the shaft does not rotate freely, release it with a screwdriver inserting it in the special slot set in the rear of the pump. (Fig. G). If this does not solve the problem, remove the pump body loosening the corresponding mounting screws and clean perfectly to remove any debris setting. Never service the pump when is not previously disconnected from the power source.

GUIDELINES FOR EXTENSION CORDS

Make sure the extension cord is in good shape. When using an extension cord, verify the gauge is enough for the power that your product needs. A lower gauge cord will cause voltage drop in the line, resulting in power loss and overheating.

The following table shows the right size to use depending on the cord's length and the ampere capability shown in the tool's nameplate. If in doubt, use the next higher gauge. The lower the gauge, the heavier the cord will be.

Make sure that your extension cord is properly grounded and in good shape.

(1) It is safe to use only if the extensions themselves have an artifact for over current protection.
(2) One of the conductors should be grounded. All conductors are the same gauge including the one that is grounded.

PROBLEMCAUSESOLUTIONS
The motor does not start.- There is no energy.- Blocked impeller.- Check the connections and the power values- See the maintenance section
The motor runs without pumping water.- Clogged filter.- Excessive height in the suction.- Air in the admission.- Clean the filter- Reduce the suction pipe length.- Double-check the suction pipe is hermetic.- Check the foot valve is submerged at least 19.6”- Priming the pump back is required.- Verify the suction height.
Flow speed is not enough.- Suction height is in the limit.- Filter is partially clogged.- Blocked impeller.- Shorten the suction pipe length.- Clean the foot valve and the whole suction pipe is necessary.- Disassemble the pump and carefully clean the pump body and the impeller.
The motor overload short is activated- Motor overload.- Stuck impeller.- Double-check power and ventilation.- Release the impeller ( see the maintenance section)

Failure to follow with these caution advices may damage the pump and void the warranty.
