Frequently Asked Questions - Refine 500 E5GS1-89BM ELECTROLUX

What type of water should I use?
The steamer is designed for tap water. For best results, use distilled water or a mix of 50% distilled and 50% tap water. Never use scented water, vinegar, or ironing aids as they can cause brown spitting and staining.
How often should I descale?
Descale every 2 months in areas with medium water hardness, or every month (or after 10 uses) in very hard water. Follow the descaling procedure in the manual using a commercial descaler.
Why is no steam coming out?
Check that the appliance is plugged in and switched on. For E5GS1-5xxx models, press the ON/OFF button; for E5GS1-8xxx models, turn the steam setting selector to a desired setting. Ensure the water tank has sufficient water.
How do I adjust the steam settings?
For E5GS1-8xxx models, turn the rotary selector to choose steam level according to fabric type: OFF for off, thinner clothes (silk, shirts), thicker clothes (cotton, chemical fiber), and heavy clothes (fur, linen).
Can I use scented water or vinegar?
No, never put scented water, vinegar, or ironing aids in the water tank. Only use water as recommended.
How do I clean the steamer?
After each use, switch off, unplug, and let cool for 30 minutes. Empty the water tank and open the drain valve to drain the heating unit. Wipe dry. Periodically descale as per instructions.
What accessories are included?
The package includes combined brush, static brush, line clip, trousers rack with 2 clips, garment clip, protective glove, ironing board for collar and sleeve, auxiliary ironing board, and accessory bag. Some accessories vary by model.
Is it safe to leave unattended?
No, never leave the appliance unattended while connected to the mains. Always switch off and unplug after use.
How do I store the steam hose?
Do not bend the steam hose or block the steam outlet. After use, allow to cool and store the hose in a straight position to avoid overpressure and condensation.
What should I do if water leaks from the nozzle?
Water leakage from the nozzle may be due to a cracked steam nozzle (replace) or condensation. Lift the nozzle upright to remove condensation. If leakage from the hose joint, tighten it.
