VHF MARINE\*

Ideal for the safety of recreational boaters for ship-to-ship or ship-to-shore communications. Uniden VHF Marine Radios operate in the VHF Maritime Mobile Band on the frequency range between 156MHz and 162MHz. All Uniden VHF Marine Radios can communicate on the VHF distress & emergency channel 16, and receive local weather and navigation warnings on VHF channel 67 – the latter dependant on the local broadcast schedule. Modern VHF radios have the additional feature of Digital Selective Calling (DSC) that allows distress alerting at the push of a button.

27MHz MARINE

Suitable for recreational boaters for use in enclosed waters, the 27MHz Inshore boating radio service band is unique to Australia. Used for ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication, and capable of distress alerts on 27MHz channel 88 and receiving weather forecasts and marine safety information – provided that the vessel is operating within the coverage area and times of the volunteer services.

*An operating certificate (SROCP) is required to use a VHF radio. A fee is normally required for certification. More information about licensing of radios and operators can be found at the ACMA website.
