Frequently Asked Questions - AS800 BLACK & DECKER

How do I fill the water tank?
Open the water-fill cover, tilt the iron, and pour water using a clean measuring cup until the water reaches the MAX mark on the water tank. Do not overfill. Close the cover securely.
How do I select the correct temperature?
Check the garment's label for fabric type. Turn the fabric-select dial to the appropriate setting (1 to 7). The digital display shows the setting and fabric type. Once heated, the iron beeps and displays READY.
What is the 3-way automatic shutoff feature?
The iron automatically turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity when left on its soleplate or tipped over on its side. If left vertically on its heel rest, it shuts off after 8 minutes. Wait for the iron to reheat completely before resuming.
How do I use the surge of steam function?
Ensure the water tank is filled to MAX. Set the dial to a temperature between 4 and 7 (steam only works at these settings). Wait for READY to display, then press the surge-of-steam button. For best results, allow 5 seconds between bursts.
Can I use the iron vertically?
Yes, for removing wrinkles from hanging clothes or drapes. Fill the tank, set the dial to 4-7, wait for READY, hold the iron close to the fabric, and pump the surge-of-steam button while moving the iron.
How do I clean the iron?
Use the AUTO CLEAN function monthly: fill the tank below MAX, set dial to 7, heat until READY, unplug, hold over sink with soleplate down, press and hold AUTO CLEAN button until water empties. For exterior, wipe with damp cloth and mild detergent; never use abrasives.
What type of water should I use?
Use ordinary tap water. Do not use water from a home softening system, as it may affect performance.
Why is my iron not producing steam?
Ensure the temperature setting is between 4 and 7 (steam only activates at higher settings). Check that the water tank is filled to MAX and the iron has reached the selected temperature (READY displayed). Also, verify you are pressing the correct button.
How should I store the iron?
Unplug the iron and allow it to cool completely. Store it vertically on its heel to prevent water leakage. Wrap the cord loosely around the smart stand/cord wrap for storage.
What does the warranty cover?
The one-year limited warranty (USA and Canada only) covers defects in material or workmanship. It does not cover damage from commercial use, misuse, abuse, modifications, or glass parts. Liability does not exceed the purchase price. Contact 1-800-231-9786 for service.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When using your iron, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

☐ READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.
□ Use iron only for its intended use.
☐ To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
☐ The iron should always be turned to "Off" before plugging or unplugging from outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
☐ Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around the iron when storing.
□ Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use.
☐ Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron, take it to a qualified serviceman for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
☐ Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down- there may be hot water in the reservoir.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

☐ To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
☐ If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, a 10-ampere cord should be used. Cords rated for less amperage may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over.

Soft-Touch Parts

Note: The soft-touch parts of this unit are free of natural rubber and latex. They are safe for individuals allergic or sensitive to these materials.

This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

TAMPER-RESISTANT SCREW

Warning: This appliance is equipped with a lamper-resistant screw to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel.
