Frequently Asked Questions - 442-055 Marquant

How do I install the batteries in the Marquant 442-055 smoke detector?
Insert a 9V battery in the smoke detector compartment with correct polarity. Then insert three 1.5V batteries (AA or AAA?) into the wireless transmitter compartment. Turn the locking arm inward, align the hooks on the mounting plate, and twist clockwise to lock.
How do I test if the smoke detector is working properly?
Press the test button. You should hear a loud alarm and see the red LED flash. The red/green LED will also flash, and a wireless signal is sent to connected units. You can also use artificial smoke for a more realistic test.
How do I connect multiple Marquant 442-055 smoke detectors together?
Set one as host (press learn button until green LED) and others as slave (press learn button until red LED). Then press and hold the test button on the host until all units alarm and flash continuously. They will now communicate wirelessly.
How do I remove a unit from the network?
Press the learn button on the unit to be removed until the green LED stays lit. Then press the test button to return to normal mode. The unit will no longer be connected.
What should I do if the smoke detector beeps every 43 seconds?
This indicates a low 9V battery in the smoke detector. Replace it with a new 9V battery. If the beep is every 60 seconds, replace the three 1.5V batteries in the wireless transmitter.
How should I clean the smoke detector?
Remove the batteries first. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust from the vents. Do not use water or cleaning agents. Reinsert batteries and test with the test button.
Where should I install the smoke detector?
Install on the ceiling away from kitchens, bathrooms, and dusty areas. Ensure there are no obstructions blocking light and sound. Maintain a distance of at least 60m from other units for reliable wireless communication.
Why is the test button not working?
Check the 9V battery connection and polarity. If the learn button does not work, check the three 1.5V batteries. Ensure all batteries are fresh and inserted correctly.
Can I use this smoke detector in a caravan or boat?
It is intended for buildings and may not be suitable for damp, hot, or dusty environments like caravans or boats. Check the operating temperature and humidity limits: -10 to 40°C and ≤95% RH.
What is the warranty period for the Marquant 442-055?
The notice does not specify a warranty period, but Jula AB (manufacturer) provides support via www.jula.com. Contact their service department for warranty inquiries.

Testing/connecting/removing

When the product starts a red alarm status light flashes at 43 second intervals.

Testing

Press the test button. A loud audio prompt is heard and the red alarm status light starts flashing. The red/green status light for connecting/learning mode flashes and a wireless alarm signal is emitted at the

same time to all the connected products within range. This shows that the smoke detector is working properly. You can also do a test with artificial smoke.

Setting/connecting

Setting as host unit: When two or more products are connected, press the learn button once. The red/green status light changes colour once. Set host units to the mode for green status light. Setting as slave: Set slave units to the mode for red status light.

Connected

  1. When the correct setting is made, keep the test button on the host unit pressed until the red alarm status light and the red/green status light for connection/learn flash continuously and a wireless alarm signal is given.
  2. When a slave unit receives a signal from the host unit the status light for learn mode flashes continuously and an alarm is given at the same time by all the connected units. The red status lamp goes off.
  3. When the required units are connected, press the test button on one of the alarm units. The other connected products give an alarm and the status lights flash continuously.

Removing

Press the learn button on the unit to be removed, to put the unit in the mode for green status light. Press the test button to enable normal alarm mode. The red status light for alarm and the red/green status light for connection/learn flash continuously to show that the product has been removed.

Installation (see diagrams)

  1. Choose a suitable place to install within range of the other units.
  2. Use the mounting plate as a template and mark out and drill holes in the ceiling. Insert plugs in the holes.
  3. Screw on the mounting plate.
  4. Align the two hooks on the mounting plate to the slots in the base. Turn the plate clockwise so that the hooks slot in place.
  5. Carry out a communication test after completing the installation.
