Connect the charger to the mains and to the battery input. The charger lights red during charging and turns green when fully charged. Charging time is approximately 6-8 hours.
What is the maximum range of the eCBW-Hi1?
The range depends on assistance level, terrain, rider weight, and battery capacity. Typically, you can expect 40-80 km per full charge.
What is the maximum total weight allowed?
The maximum permissible total weight is 120 kg, including rider, luggage, and trailer load.
How do I adjust the saddle height?
Loosen the seatpost clamp (quick release or bolt), adjust the saddle so your leg is slightly bent when the pedal is at the lowest position, then tighten securely. Ensure the seatpost is within the minimum insertion mark.
How should I clean the e-bike?
Do not use a high-pressure cleaner. Clean with a soft cloth and mild neutral cleaner. Avoid water ingress into electrical components. Remove the battery before cleaning.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - NOTE! - 1

NOTE!

We strongly recommend that you take out private liability insurance. Before taking out the insurance, find out whether damage that may occur while riding your bicycle is covered. Contact your insurance agency for this.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - NOTE! - 1

ATTENTION!

Due to their equipment and design, Be Cool bicycles are not always intended for use on public roads. Before using the bicycle on public roads, make sure that all the equipment required for your region is fitted to your bicycle. The public road traffic regulations must always be observed.

Permissible total weight

You will find the permissible total weight for your bicycle on the type plate of the bicycle.

The permissible total weight is made up as follows:

Weight driver (kg)

  • Weight bike (kg)
  • Weight luggage (kg)
  • Total weight of trailer incl. persons and/or load (kg)
= permissible total weight in kilograms.

You can find the weight of your bicycle on the type plate on your bicycle.

You can also find more detailed information at www.becool.at.

Trailer operation

Your Be Cool brand bicycle is suitable and approved for operation with a trailer for transporting passengers and/or loads.

Up to two children can be carried in child trailers that are towed behind the bicycle.

The following points must be observed when using a trailer:

  • The trailer, including its load, must not exceed the maximum permissible gross weight. To calculate the permissible total weight, read the chapter "Permissible total weight".
  • The trailer hitch may only be mounted on the rear axle or on a special mount on the dropout, such as an HDT mount.
  • The attachment to rear stays, seat post, frame tube or similar is not permitted!
  • If it is necessary to replace the original stub axle for attaching the trailer coupling or to clamp it with an adapter to the original stub axle, make sure that the axle thread and the thread of the axle nut are completely overlapped.
  • Replacement axles must correspond to the technical specifications of the original axle of your bicycle (diameter, material, thread pitch and threads, clamping width).
  • If lighting equipment is obscured by the attachment of the trailer, it must be visibly attached to the trailer. When driving at night, a battery/rechargeable battery light must be attached to the rear of the trailer.

Trailer operation

  • The maximum permissible speed specified by the trailer manufacturer must be observed. Please check with the manufacturer or in the operating instructions of the trailer.
  • Only persons in appropriately approved trailers may be transported

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Trailer operation - 1

ATTENTION!

  • Please always strap children into the trailer, as uncontrolled movements by children can cause the trailer and bicycle to tip over.
  • Always put a helmet on your child, even in the trailer. A trailer is only an imperfect protection in case of an accident. Also think of your health and wear a helmet every time you ride.
  • Operating a trailer influences the braking behaviour, handling and width of the bicycle. Therefore, first practise the handling with an empty trailer.
  • The additional load caused by transporting the trailer increases the braking distance!

Before the first ride

  1. In order to be allowed to participate in road traffic, there are legal requirements. These vary from country to country, which is why the bicycles from Be Cool are not necessarily fully equipped for road traffic.
Ask your specialist dealer about the laws, regulations and ordinances in your country or in the country in which you want to operate the bicycle. Have your bicycle equipped according to the regulations before you participate in road traffic.
  2. The battery of your bicycle must be charged before first use. Please refer to the chapter "Battery" and "Charging the battery" to be informed accordingly. Before your first ride, check that the battery is correctly installed, audibly engaged and locked.

For further information, please refer to the system instructions of your drive manufacturer.

  1. The functions of the bicycle are operated on the buttons of the board computer or the On/Off switch on the top tube. Check that you are familiar with all the functions on the control panel or the control unit or the board computer.

For further information, please refer to the system instructions of your drive manufacturer.

Before the first ride

BE COOL

  1. Are you familiar with your braking system? Check in your bicycle passport whether you can operate the front brake with the same hand (right or left) as you are used to. If this is not the case, have your specialist dealer modify or adjust the brake accordingly.

Modern braking systems may have a stronger braking effect than your previous, usual brake. We therefore recommend that you carry out some test braking on a flat surface so that you can assess the braking behaviour of your bicycle in every situation. This helps to avoid accidents or damage.

For more information, see the chapter "Brake system" in this operating manual or the respective component manufacturer's instructions.

  1. Are you familiar with your circuit type and its function? Have your specialist dealer explain the gears to you, or familiarise yourself with your gears away from traffic.

For further information, please refer to the chapter "Circuitry" in these operating instructions or to the respective instructions of the component manufacturer.

  1. Is your saddle and handlebars properly adjusted? The saddle should be adjusted so that you can just reach the pedal with your heel in the lowest position. Please check whether you can still reach the ground with the tips of your feet when you are sitting on the saddle. Your specialist dealer can help you adjust the seating position.

For more information, see the chapter "Fitting the bike to the rider" in this user manual or the respective component manufacturer's instructions.

  1. If you own a Be Cool bicycle with suspension and/or suspension seat post, you should have your specialist dealer adjust and explain the correct suspension settings to you. Incorrect settings of the suspension elements can lead to malfunction or damage to the suspension element and greatly worsen the riding experience, the riding safety and thus the enjoyment of riding.

For more information, see the "Suspension" chapter in these operating instructions or the respective component manufacturer's instructions.

Before the first ride

BE COOL

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Before the first ride - 1

ATTENTION!

In particular, make sure you have enough freedom in your stride so that you do not injure yourself if you have to dismount quickly.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

DANGER!

Please note that the braking or stopping distance is increased if you ride with handlebars with horns. The brake levers are not in a favourable grip range in all grip positions.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

ATTENTION!

Please do not step on the pedals when you get on your bike. Only pedal when you are sitting stably in the saddle and have a firm grip on the handlebars, otherwise the motor assistance may start and your bicycle may start to move uncontrollably. Risk of falling!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Please note that braking performance and tyre grip can deteriorate significantly in wet or other road conditions. Therefore, always drive carefully, depending on the road conditions.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Please do not fit any replacement or new parts that are not suitable for your bike or that invalidate the operating limits of 25 km/h and 250 W rated power of the motor, otherwise your Be Cool bike will no longer be approved for road use and the warranty will expire. You may also lose your insurance cover. Danger of accident!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Pulling the rear brake stops the engine -> emergency stop!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

If you have fallen or had an accident with your bicycle, please carry out the test from the chapter "After a fall". Please only operate your bicycle if the bicycle has passed the test flawlessly and ride back carefully. You should not brake hard, accelerate hard or ride in a saddle. If you feel unsafe, please arrange to be picked up by car rather than taking a risk. When you get home, you should check your bike carefully. If you are still unsure about the condition of your bike, contact your dealer.

Before the first ride

BE COOL

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Before the first ride - 1

ATTENTION!

Observe the chapter "Battery" and "Charging the battery" to ensure correct handling of the battery.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Do not park your bike in the blazing sun.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

The weight distribution of your Be Cool e-bike differs significantly from conventional bikes without drive. Your Be Cool bicycle is significantly heavier than a bicycle without drive, which makes it more difficult to lift, push, carry or park the bicycle. This should also be taken into account when loading the bicycle into a vehicle or when attaching it to a bicycle carrier.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Always be aware that the brakes on your bicycle are always stronger than the drive. If you have problems with the drive (e.g. because the drive is dragging before a bend), brake your bike carefully.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Not all bicycles are equipped with a parking support. Therefore, make sure that it stands securely when parked and is secured against falling over. If your bicycle falls over, damage may occur.

Before each ride

Your Be Cool bike has been checked several times by the manufacturer during production and in a subsequent quality control. Since changes in the function of the bicycle may occur during transport or other persons may have made changes to your bicycle during a standstill period, we recommend checking the following points before riding again:

  1. Are the thru axles, quick-releases or screw connections on the front and rear wheel, seat post and other components correctly locked?
  2. Are the plug connections on the battery, the board computer or on the control unit and drive correctly connected?
  3. Is your battery fully charged? Please make sure to fully charge the battery after every ride (e.g. when there is less than 50% remaining charge). Although lithium-ion batteries no longer have a memory effect, they can be damaged by deep discharge. The service life of the battery is also significantly shortened if it is left empty.
  4. Is the battery firmly seated in its holder and is it properly locked? Please do not ride your bicycle if the battery is not properly seated and locked in its holder.

  5. Are the displays on the board computer or the control unit on the handlebar complete? Is a warning or error code displayed? Before each ride, please check that the display is working correctly and that no error code or warning appears. Do not ride your bicycle if an error code or warning appears.

  6. Are the tyres in good condition and has the air pressure been checked? Please note that due to its construction, your Be Cool e-bike is a lot heavier than a bicycle without electric drive. The correct tyre pressure results in better riding stability, increases puncture safety, protects your tyre tread and thus increases the service life of the tyre. The information about minimum and maximum pressure (in PSI or bar) can be found on the side of the tyre.
  7. Check the concentricity of the front and rear wheels by letting them turn freely. Observe the concentricity of the brake disc, the rim and the tyre. Poor concentricity may indicate broken axles, cracked spokes or a sideways burst tyre.
  8. When stationary, do a brake test by pulling the brake levers towards the handlebars with force. The pressure point of disc brakes must be stable immediately. If the pressure point is only stable after the brake lever has been actuated several times, you should have your bicycle checked immediately by your specialist dealer or by our service department before setting off.

For more information, see the "Brakes" chapter in this operating manual or the respective component manufacturer's instructions.

  1. Let your Be Cool bike bounce on the ground from a low height and listen for rattling noises. If you hear rattling noises, check the bearings, screw and clamp connections and also the battery for a firm, correct fit.
  2. Should you wish to participate in road traffic, you must equip your bicycle in accordance with the laws and regulations of the respective country. In any case, riding without lights and reflectors in poor visibility and in the dark is very dangerous. You will be seen late or not at all by other road users. Danger of accident!
Should you move in road traffic, you will always need a permissible lighting system. Switch off the lights in good time in poor lighting conditions, the light comes on.
  3. With your Be Cool suspension bike, lean on the bike and check that the suspension elements compress and decompress as usual.
  4. If your bicycle is equipped with a parking support, make sure that it is folded in before you start your ride. Risk of falling!
  5. Do not forget to carry a suitable, high-quality handcuff lock, U-lock, cable lock or similar. You can only effectively prevent theft if you connect your bike to a fixed object with the appropriate lock. We also recommend that you always remove the battery, the board computer or the display from the bicycle.

Before each ride

BE COOL

DANGER!

Improperly closed fastenings, e.g. quick release, seat post or battery can result in parts of your bicycle coming loose while riding. Serious falls may result.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

Please note that the braking or stopping distance is increased if you ride with handlebars with horns. The brake levers are not in a favourable grip range in all grip positions.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

Do not ride if your Be Cool bike appears defective in any of these points! A defective bicycle can lead to serious injuries and accidents. If you are not absolutely sure or have any questions, please contact our service department or your specialist dealer.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

NOTE!

Maintain your bicycle regularly and have the interval maintenance carried out in good time by your specialist dealer.

This is the only way to ensure the functionality of the bicycle, increase its service life and always keep you safe on the road. Further information can be found in the chapters "Intended use", "Service and maintenance" and "Service and maintenance plan".

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - NOTE! - 1

DANGER!

Your bicycle is subjected to high stresses due to the influences of the ground and the forces acting on the bicycle. The various components react to these dynamic influences and stresses with wear and fatigue. Therefore, check your bicycle regularly for signs of wear and fatigue, deformation, discolouration, scratches or incipient cracks.

Components that have exceeded their service life can suddenly fail. Have your bicycle checked regularly by your specialist dealer to prevent damage, accidents or injuries due to lack of maintenance.

After a fall

  1. After a fall, you should check the battery. If the battery is deformed, damaged or no longer in its holder, you must no longer use your bicycle. If you want to continue using your bicycle without electric assistance, switch off the drive and, if necessary, the battery. A damaged battery can lead to short circuits or your bicycle suddenly no longer providing support, even though you need it at the time.

If the outer casing of the battery is damaged, water can or moisture may enter, resulting in electric shocks, This can lead to short circuits and injuries. The battery may ignite or even explode. In such a case, contact Please contact your specialist dealer or our service department.

After a fall

BE COOL

  1. Check whether the indication on the board computer or display is complete and correct. If the board computer displays a warning or error message, you must no longer operate your bicycle. In the event of critical errors, the system switches off automatically; in the event of non-critical errors, the system may still function partially.
  2. Let your Be Cool bike bounce on the ground from a low height and listen for rattling noises. If you hear rattling noises, check the bearings, screw and clamp connections and also the battery for a firm, correct fit.
  3. Make sure that the wheels are still firmly clamped and fixed in the wheel holders (dropouts) and that the rims are centred in the frame or fork. Turn the wheels and observe the gap between the frame and the tyres. If the gap changes significantly, you will not be able to centre the wheel on site. Please consult your specialist dealer or our service department.
  4. Make sure that the stem or handlebars are not bent, broken, cracked or otherwise damaged and that they are still straight. Check that the stem is firmly on the fork by trying to twist the handlebars over the front wheel. Also lean briefly on the brake handles to check that the handlebars are secure.

If necessary, align the components and tighten the screws until the components are securely clamped. The maximum screw torques can be found in the component manufacturers' instructions.

  1. Make sure that the chain is still on the sprockets and chainrings. If your bicycle has fallen onto the shifting side, you should check the shifting function. Ask a helper (friend, family) to lift and hold the bicycle by the saddle and carefully shift through the gears. Especially towards the small gears, when the chain climbs onto the larger sprockets, you need to pay attention to how far the rear derailleur approaches the spokes.

DANGER!

Parts that show deformation, especially parts made of aluminium, can break without warning. They must not be straightened, i.e. not bent straight, because even after this the danger of breakage remains. This applies in particular to pedals, pedal cranks, seat post, handlebars, fork and stem. If you have any doubts, it is always advisable to replace these parts, because safety first! Ask your specialist dealer for advice.

ATTENTION!

After the bicycle has tipped over or fallen, make sure that the rear derailleur works as usual and in particular the end stop of the derailleur should be checked.

Battery

The electric bicycle is equipped with a Li-Ion battery.

Advantages and main features of a Li-Ion battery:

  • Long life cycle
  • Extremely safe chemistry, high intrinsic safety, no risk of explosion and does not catch fire in case of collision, short circuit or overload.
    • High thermal stability.
    • High performance
    • Very good charging efficiency
  • Low self discharge
    • No memory effect

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Battery - 1

DANGER!

Lithium-ion batteries are gas-tight sealed and harmless provided the manufacturer's instructions are followed during use and handling. Battery packs are safe for use when handled properly under the parameters specified in the instruction manual. Incorrect handling or circumstances leading to improper operation may result in leaks and leakage of battery contents and decomposition products, which may lead to violent reactions that endanger health and the environment. In principle, contact with leaked battery components can pose a risk to health and the environment. Therefore, adequate body and respiratory protection is required in case of contact with conspicuous batteries (leakage of contents, deformations, discolourations, dents, etc.). Battery packs can react very violently, e.g. in combination with fire. Battery components with a high hazard potential can be emitted.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

Battery packs must not be modified or manipulated under any circumstances, as this can lead to considerable safety risks. As with other batteries, lithium batteries can continue to be a source of danger even when supposedly discharged, as they can deliver a very high short-circuit current.

Remove the battery from the bicycle if you are carrying out maintenance work or work on the electronic controls.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - NOTE! - 1

NOTE!

The life and performance of a battery depends on its age, care and how often it has been used.

Compared to other battery models, lithium ion batteries have a very low self-discharge rate. Charge the battery to at least 80% of its capacity if it is not used for more than 30 days. It is better to charge the battery to 100% every 90 days to protect the function of the battery.

Please note that a deeply discharged battery is irreparably damaged and must be replaced at the owner's expense. For this reason, the battery should never be completely discharged, even during operation!

WARNING!

  • Do not use chargers that are not suitable for the battery type.
    • Do not short-circuit the charger
  • Only charge the battery if it does not show any damage

Quick release

BE COOL

For quick assembly, adjustability and disassembly, your bicycle is equipped with a quick-release system. Before each ride, the quick-release should be checked for tightness. Quick-releases should be used carefully, as your safety directly depends on them.

You should practise using the quick release system to avoid damage or accidents.

The quick release basically consists of two controls:

  1. The lever on one side of the hub: It converts the closing movement into the clamping force via an eccentric.
  2. The clamping nut on the opposite side of the hub: It is used to adjust the pretension via the threaded rod.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Quick release - 1

DANGER!

Be careful not to touch the brake disc immediately after e.g. a long drive. You could burn yourself badly! Always let the brake disc cool down before opening a quick release.

DANGER!

Make sure that the quick-release lever does not touch the brake disc. If you are not sure or have any questions, contact your specialist dealer or our service department.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

Never set off on a ride with your bicycle if you have not checked the wheel fastening before setting off. If the quick-release is not closed correctly, the wheel can come loose. Acute risk of accident!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

When you park your bicycle, connect wheels that are fastened with quick-releases to a fixed object together with the frame to prevent theft.

Procedure for securely fastening a component with a quick-release clamp

Open the quick release by pulling the lever towards you. The quick release lever should now be facing you. Make sure that the component to be attached is correctly positioned.

Move the lever in the direction of the clamping position. At the beginning of the closing movement up to half way, the lever must move very easily.

After that, the leverage should increase significantly, the lever should then be difficult to move. Use the ball of your thumb and pull with your fingers on a fixed component, e.g. the rear stay or fork, but not on a spoke or brake disc, for support.

Quick release

BE COOL

In the end position, the lever must be at right angles to the quick-release axle, i.e. it must not protrude sideways. The lever must be in contact with the frame or fork in such a way that it cannot be opened unintentionally. It should also be easy to grip so that it can be operated quickly.

Check the seat by pressing on the end of the closed lever and try to twist it. If it moves, you must open it to increase the pretension. Turn the clamping nut on the opposite side clockwise by half a turn. Close the quick release and check the fit again.

At the end, lift the wheel a few centimetres off the ground and give it a blow from above on the tyre. A securely fastened wheel will stay in the axle sockets of the frame or fork and there will be no rattling noise.

To check the quick-release on the saddle, try twisting the saddle. If it cannot be twisted, the saddle is seated correctly.

Fitting the bike to the rider

Body size and body proportions are decisive for choosing the frame size of your Be Cool bike. Make sure you have enough freedom in your stride so that you don't hurt yourself if you have to dismount quickly.

With the choice of a bicycle, the body posture is roughly determined. However, various components can be adjusted to body size and body proportions. These include the handlebars, the seat post and the stem as well as the brake handles or brake and shift levers.

As all work requires experience, specialist knowledge, suitable tools and manual dexterity, you should only carry out the position check. Discuss the suitable seating position or your change requests with your specialist dealer. He can carry out your ideas.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Fitting the bike to the rider - 1

NOTE!

After each adjustment/assembly, be sure to do the quick check in the chapter "Before each ride" and try out your bike at your leisure away from traffic.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - NOTE! - 1

DANGER!

If the frame size is too small or if the foot is not placed correctly on the pedal, there is a risk that the foot will touch the front wheel. Therefore, make sure that the foot is placed correctly on the pedal.

DANGER!

The work described requires mechanic experience and suitable tools. Always tighten the screw connections with great care. Increase tightening forces gradually and always make sure that the component is firmly seated. Use a torque spanner and do not exceed the maximum screw torques!

Adjust seat height correctly

The correct adjustment of your saddle depends on your leg length. The ball of the foot should be above the centre of the pedal axle when pedalling. In the lowest position of the crank, the leg must not be fully extended, otherwise pedalling will be out of round.

The seat height should be adjusted and checked in shoes with flat soles, wear suitable cycling shoes if necessary.

Sit on the saddle and place the heel on the pedal in the lowest position. The leg should not be fully extended.

To adjust the seat, loosen the quick release (see relevant chapter) or the seat post clamp at the end of the seat tube with a suitable tool. Loosen the clamp by turning the clamping screw two to three turns anticlockwise. You should then be able to adjust the height of the seat post.

Straighten the saddle again by sighting over the saddle tip onto the bottom bracket shell or along the top tube. Clamp the seat post tightly.

Always make sure that the seat post is firmly seated between the steps. To do this, hold the saddle with both hands at the front and back and try to turn it; if you succeed, the saddle is not properly clamped. Therefore, tighten the clamp again.

Is the leg extension correct when you check again? Check the correct setting by placing the foot and pedal in the lowest position. When the ball of the foot is in the middle of the pedal (ideal pedalling position), the knee should be slightly bent. If this is the case, you have adjusted the saddle height correctly.

Check whether you can still safely reach the ground with your feet from the saddle. If this is not the case, you should lower the saddle a little in the beginning.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Adjust seat height correctly - 1

DANGER!

For better control on steep descents, you should set your Be Cool E-MTB lower. This increases the control of your bike considerably.

Adjusting the handlebar height

The handlebar height relative to the saddle and the distance between the saddle and handlebars determine the angle of the back. With low handlebars you sit athletically and put a lot of weight on the front wheel. This bent posture is more strenuous and uncomfortable as it strains the wrists, arms, upper body and neck.

Adjustable stems

The inclination adjustment of the front stem area is solved in different ways on adjustable stems:

There are models with screws on the top or bottom and models with additional pawls or adjustment screws or models with screws on the side of the joint.

If you are not sure, have your specialist dealer explain the function and adjustment of the stem to you or leave the adjustment to him.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Adjustable stems - 1

DANGER!

If the handlebars are adjusted significantly upwards, the cables may be too short. Riding like this is dangerous. Danger of accident!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

NOTE!

Note that the handlebars, brake and shift levers change position when the stem is adjusted. Readjust them as described in the chapter "Adjusting the inclination of the handlebars and brake levers".

Correcting the seat length and adjusting the saddle angle

The distance between the handlebar grips and the saddle has an influence on the back inclination and thus on the riding comfort and dynamics. This distance can be changed to a small extent via the seatpost slide. However, if the saddle rail is moved in the seat post, this also influences the pedalling action. The rider pedals more or less from behind.

If the saddle is not adjusted horizontally, the rider cannot pedal in a relaxed manner. He must constantly support himself on the handlebars or hold on tightly to avoid sliding off the saddle.

Move the saddle and adjust it horizontally

Your patent seat post uses an internal hexagonal bolt to hold the head, which locks both the tilt and the horizontal position of the saddle. Some seat posts have two bolts next to each other.

Open the bolts at the head of the seat post. To do this, unscrew the bolts by no more than two to three turns, otherwise the entire mechanism may fall apart. Move the saddle forwards or backwards as desired. Often a light tap on the saddle is necessary for this. Pay attention to the markings on the frame and do not exceed them.

Make sure that the top edge of the saddle remains horizontal while you tighten the bolts again. Your bicycle should be level during these adjustments.

When you have found the desired position, check that the two halves of the clamping mechanism are in contact with the saddle rail before tightening the seat post.

Regulating the brake lever grip width

With most brake levers, the distance between the lever and the handlebar grips can be adjusted. This allows riders with small hands in particular to bring the brake levers within easy reach of the handlebars.

There is usually a small adjustment screw on the lever itself.

Turn this screw clockwise and observe how the lever moves.

Hydraulic brakes also have adjustment devices on the brake lever. There are different systems.

Adjust the grip width so that the first limb of the index finger can grip the brake lever. Then check the correct adjustment and function of the brake system as described in the chapter "Brake system".

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Regulating the brake lever grip width - 1

ATTENTION!

It must not be possible to pull the brake lever through to the handlebar. The full braking force should be reached beforehand.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

NOTE!

For hydraulic brakes and disc brakes, follow the brake manufacturer's instructions. If you are not sure, contact your specialist dealer.

Adjusting the inclination of the handlebars and brake handles

The handlebar ends are usually angled. Adjust the handlebars so that your wrists are relaxed and not turned outwards too much.

To do this, open the hexagon socket screw on the front or underside of the stem. Turn the handlebar until it is in the position you want. Note that the stem clamps the handlebar exactly in the middle. Carefully tighten the screw(s) again with the appropriate tool.

Check that the slots of the stem are parallel and the same width at the top and bottom. For stems with several bolts, tighten them evenly and crosswise.

Try turning the handlebars relative to the stem and retighten the screw connection if necessary.

Once you have adjusted the handlebars, you need to adjust the shift and brake grips. To do this, loosen the hexagon socket screws on the grips.

Twist the grip on the handlebars. Sit on the saddle and place your fingers on the brake lever.

Make sure your hand lines up with your forearm. Turn the handles tight again. Do a twist check! The brake levers do not have to be absolutely tight. It is an advantage if they can twist in the event of a fall.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Adjusting the inclination of the handlebars and brake handles - 1

NOTE!

Tighten the stem bolts one by one until the clamping slot at the handlebar clamp between stem and stem cover is parallel and the same width at the top and bottom. Tighten the bolts one after the other crosswise and evenly with the appropriate tool.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

Do not place the bar ends vertically or backwards, this could cause injury in the event of a fall.

Brake system

The riding speed can be adjusted to the terrain and traffic conditions with the brake. If necessary, the brakes must bring your bicycle to a standstill as quickly as possible.

During such full braking, the weight shifts strongly to the front and the rear wheel is relieved. Therefore, on a grippy surface, the rear wheel may come up and overturn the bicycle instead of the tyres losing grip. Especially when going downhill, this problem is amplified. When braking hard, you must therefore try to shift your weight as far down and to the rear as possible.

Apply both brakes at the same time and make sure that the front brake can transmit the greater forces on a grippy surface due to the weight shift.

Conditions are different on loose ground. Here, over-braking the front wheel can lead to the front wheel slipping away. Familiarise yourself with the respective operation before your first ride. Practice braking on different surfaces in advance and away from traffic.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Brake system - 1

DANGER!

Do not try - and especially with tools - to turn screws carelessly in the hope that it is an adjustment device. There is a risk of loosening the fastening mechanism and causing a fall or an accident. As a rule, all manufacturers mark the adjusting devices with scales or similar.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

DANGER!

Suspension forks are designed in such a way that they have to compensate for shocks. If the fork is rigid and locked, shocks are transmitted undiminished to the frame. This can damage the fork and the frame. Therefore, with forks that have a lockout mechanism, you must generally only operate this function on smooth terrain (roads, dirt tracks) and not on rough terrain.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

NOTE!

Suspension fork manufacturers usually include instructions. Read them carefully before making any changes to the fork setting or carrying out any maintenance work.

You can also find tips on setting and maintenance on the Internet on the respective homepage of your component manufacturer.

Special features during the journey

BE COOL

Your Be Cool e-bike can be operated like a conventional bicycle. However, the true riding experience only occurs when the drive system is activated - when the 250 watt drive motor with its high torque supports you all the better the harder you pedal.

Start your first ride at the lowest drive assistance level. Gradually familiarise yourself with the additional thrust. Slowly feel your way to the potential of your bike, away from traffic.

Practise typical riding situations, such as starting and braking, tight turns and riding on narrow cycle paths. This is where your Be Cool bike differs greatly from a normal, conventional bike.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Special features during the journey - 1

ATTENTION!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

ATTENTION!

Always be aware that the brakes on your bicycle are always stronger than the drive. If you have problems with the drive (e.g. because the drive is dragging before a bend), brake your bike carefully.

Driving with drive assistance

You can switch the system on and off using the buttons on the control element on the handlebars, on the display or on the battery. You can also select the various assistance modes or speed levels and the remaining battery capacity is displayed.

After switching on, the system is activated by pedalling and the motor assistance switches on. The built-in sensors measure your pedalling movements and control the motor assistance fully automatically depending on the selected riding level. The amount of thrust depends on the speed, assistance mode and, if necessary, pedal force. The motor assistance switches off at a speed of over 25 km/h.

Note that you may have to change your riding habits: Do not get on the bike by putting one foot on the pedal and trying to swing the other leg over the saddle. Your Be Cool e-bike would simply start moving. Risk of falling!

We recommend that you initially stop pedalling earlier than usual before making turns or curves. Otherwise the motor power may still be pushing a little, and your cornering speed may be too high.

Do not let the engine power tempt you to always use a higher gear. Shift frequently, as you may be used to doing on a conventional bicycle, to make your share of the locomotion as efficient as possible. Your cadence should always be continuous. You should pedal at around 70 crank revolutions per minute.

Bear in mind that other road users may not yet be used to the new e-bikes and their speeds. Anticipate the misbehaviour of other road users.

Therefore, be ready to brake and look ahead as soon as unclear traffic situations or potential dangers come into your field of vision.

Be aware that pedestrians may not hear you if you are approaching at high speed. Therefore, especially on cycle paths and shared cycle/pedestrian paths, ride with extra consideration and foresight to avoid accidents and falls. If necessary, use the bell as a warning.

Driving without drive assistance

It is also possible to use your Be Cool e-bike without motor assistance. When riding without motor assistance, you should observe the following things:

  • If the battery of your bicycle has been removed from the down tube: Make sure that neither dirt nor moisture gets onto the battery connections.
  • Even if you want to ride without motor assistance, the controls or the display can still be switched on in order to use the functions of your cycle computer. You can find more information in the system instructions of the drive manufacturer.
  • Similar to the lighting, a residual battery capacity is "reserved" for electronic circuits. However, this function is only available when the battery is installed, before the battery is completely discharged and there is no longer any indication in the display.

Transport of your bike

Your bicycle can be transported on or in the car like any conventional bicycle. Always make sure that the bicycle is securely fastened to or in the car. Check the fastening constantly. You should also remove the battery from your bicycle when transporting it in the car. Stow the battery and any detachable display securely in the car to avoid damage.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Transport of your bike - 1

DANGER!

Due to the design, the weight distribution of your bicycle differs significantly from the usual weight distribution of bicycles without drive. A Be Cool bicycle is significantly heavier than a conventional bicycle without drive. This makes it more difficult to park, push, lift and carry the bicycle. Please also bear this in mind when loading and unloading into a motor vehicle and when loading onto or attaching to a bicycle carrier system.

Service and maintenance

BE COOL

Your Be Cool bike is ready for use when you buy it and after assembly. Nevertheless, you need to care for and service the bike at regular intervals. Only then will all components function permanently.

A first inspection is due after 100 to 300 kilometres or three to six weeks or 5 to 15 operating hours. Your bicycle needs to be serviced because during the running-in period of your bicycle, safety-relevant screw connections and the spokes settle or the gears become misaligned.

This "running-in period" cannot be avoided. Therefore, make an appointment in good time with your specialist dealer or our service department to have your new bicycle inspected. The first inspection has a decisive influence on the service life and function of your bicycle.

After the running-in period, you should have your bicycle serviced and checked at regular intervals by your specialist dealer or our service department. If you ride more often on bad roads, the inspection intervals should be shortened in accordance with the harder use. A good time for the annual inspection is the winter, when your specialist dealer or our service department has plenty of time for you and your bicycle. Regular inspections and the timely replacement of wear parts, e.g. tyres, chains, brake pads or shift cables are part of the intended use of your bicycle and therefore have a significant influence on the liability for material defects (warranty) and the guarantee.

Note that the suspension components of your bicycle must be serviced at regular intervals. You will find further information in the respective chapters in these operating instructions or in the respective instructions of the component manufacturer.

In addition, your specialist dealer or our service department can provide and install updates for the e-bike systems. This makes it possible to install newly available riding modes, if necessary, which can give you longer ranges.

Note that the additional drive can lead to higher wear than usual. This applies to the chain, sprockets and chainrings in the case of mid-mounted motors.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - Service and maintenance - 1

ATTENTION!

Repairs and inspections are work that should be carried out by a specialist dealer or our service department. If inspections are not carried out and checked professionally, this can lead to the failure of components of the bicycle. Danger of accident or fall! If you nevertheless want to try to do it yourself, only allow yourself to do work for which you have the necessary specialist knowledge, the necessary experience and the right tools.

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - ATTENTION! - 1

Drive: Maintenance and care

The motor, battery and control element or display are largely maintenance-free, with the exception of the regularly required charging of the battery.

The chain must be cleaned from time to time with an oily cloth to remove deposited dirt and oil. Special chain degreasers are not necessary, but rather harmful.

Apply chain oil, grease or wax to the chain links, which should be as bare as possible. Turn the crank and apply oil to the rollers on the inside of the chain. Then turn the chain through several revolutions. Leave the Be Cool bike for a few minutes to allow the lubricant to penetrate the chain. Then rub off the excess lubricant with a rag so that it does not splash or attract dirt unnecessarily when riding.

DANGER!

Do not fit any new or replacement parts that are not prescribed for your bicycle and/or that override or increase the operating limits of 25 km/h assistance and 250W motor power. Your bicycle may then no longer be approved for road traffic. You may lose insurance cover. Acute risk of accident and injury!

Be Cool eCBW-Hi1 - DANGER! - 1

ATTENTION!

If the battery has reached the end of its service life, do not dispose of it with household waste under any circumstances. Dispose of the battery where you purchase your new battery.
