Frequently Asked Questions - DU517HMS LG

How do I install my LG DU517HMS dishwasher?
Refer to the installation manual. Ensure the appliance is level, water supply and drain hoses are connected properly, and the power cord is plugged into a grounded outlet. It is recommended to have a professional install it.
What detergent should I use?
Use a dishwasher detergent (tablet, powder, or gel) and rinse aid. Avoid using hand dishwashing liquid as it causes excessive suds.
How do I start a wash cycle?
Load the dishes, add detergent, select a program using the control panel, and press the Start button. Make sure the door is closed securely.
Why is my dishwasher not draining?
Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. Clean the filter and ensure the garbage disposal (if connected) is clear. If the problem persists, the drain pump may need servicing.
How do I clean the dishwasher filter?
Remove the lower rack, turn the filter assembly counterclockwise to unlock and lift it out. Rinse under running water and scrub gently if needed. Reinstall by aligning and turning clockwise until it locks.
What does the 'Child Lock' feature do?
The child lock prevents accidental pressing of buttons by disabling the control panel. Activate it by holding a specific button combination (see manual). To deactivate, repeat the combination.
Can I use the dishwasher with half a load?
Yes, select the 'Half Load' function if available. It adjusts water and energy usage for smaller loads, saving resources.
How do I resolve error code 'OE' on the display?
Error 'OE' indicates a drainage problem. Check the drain hose for blockages, clean the filter, and ensure the pump is not stuck. If the error persists, contact LG service.
Is it normal for the dishwasher to make noise?
Some noise from water spraying, draining, and motor operation is normal. If you hear unusual grinding or knocking, check for loose items or debris in the pump.
Where can I find spare parts for this model?
Spare parts such as filters, spray arms, and racks are available from LG authorized dealers or online retailers. Use the model number DU517HMS when ordering.

Installing the Drain Hose

If the end of the drain hose does not fit to the drain line, use a drain extension kit (optional) that is resistant to heat and detergent.

This should be available from a plumbing shop or a hardware store. If the drain hose or any extension is installed incorrectly, it can cause an operational malfunction.

Connection to the Waste Spigot

Check the waste spigot when initially installing. An OE error can occur when the waste spigot below the sink is not drilled out properly. To connect the drain hose, drill out at least a 15 mm diameter hole in the waste spigot before connecting and securing.

Waste spigot

LG DU517HMS - Connection to the Waste Spigot - 2

CAUTION

  • Make sure that there is no plastic debris or sharp edge remaining inside of the under sink waste spigot after it has been drilled out.
  • Do not attempt to open the waste hole spigot with a screwdriver and hammer. This will induce plastic debris and sharp edges and cause blockages resulting in a malfunction.
  • Caution should be taken when passing hoses through Cabinetry holes as they may have sharp edges and could damage the hoses. Smooth or sand edges to avoid damaging the drain or inlet hose.

Before Using the Appliance

This model has a water softener to soften hard water.

NOTE

  • The appliance can be used without dishwasher salt if not required, however, the hardness level needs to be set to H0 so that the icon does not remain lit.
  • In order to provide satisfactory rinsing results, the appliance requires soft water, i.e., containing little or no lime, otherwise water stains will be left behind on the dishes and inside the appliance.
  • If the tap water exceeds a certain level of hardness, it must be softened, i.e., decalcified. This is achieved by adding dishwasher salt to the water softener inside the appliance. The required amount of the salt is set up according to how hard tap water is.

Checking Water Hardness Level

Method 1

1 Check the water hardness in your area. The water utility company can help you with this.
2 Set the softening system level of the appliance according to the water hardness level.

Method 2

You can check water hardness by using the test strip included in the product.

1 Immerse all reaction zones of the test strip for about a second. Do not in running water.
2 Shake off excess liquid from the strip and wait for 1 minute.
3 Check the water hardness color from the strip. Refer to the wrapper.

You can check the default setting value and adjust it in the following steps:

1 Press Power and Half Load button simultaneously.

• Current setting value indicated.

2 Press the Delay Start button, and then set up the intended value.

- Scope of setting value is H0 to H4.

3 Press the Start button to save the setting.

• The power turns off after saving.

NOTE

- The Salt Refill icon turns on in the display if dishwasher salt is not in the softening system.

- If the hardness setting is set to H0, no icon indicates in spite of no salt.

Filling with Dishwasher Salt

The Dishwasher Salt tank must be filled before starting the washing programme. In case of insufficient salt, the Salt Refill icon indicates on the display, unless the hardness level has been set to H0.

CAUTION

- Once you have filled with dishwasher salt you must run the Rinse cycle immediately to remove the salt and the salt water around the inner tub in order to prevent corrosion.

1 Remove the lower rack and remove the cap of the salt container located on the left side of the filters.
2 Before using the appliance for the first time, it is necessary to pour 1 kg of dishwasher salt and 1 litre of water at the same time if intending to use the water softener system. When refilling the salt, use a funnel. Refer to Before Using the Appliance section.
