About scales
There are several types of scales:
- The traditional mechanical scale that estimates the weight on the basis of spring action - subsequently the weight can be read from a dial.
- The digital scale which is in fact also a mechanical scale with the exception that weight measurements are read from a display.
- The modern electronic scale which performs weighing by means of an electronic sensor and converts the weight electronically for display reading. The advantage of the electronic scale over the mechanical or digital scales is first and foremost that it performs far more accurate weight measurements – and will continue to do so. The mechanical and digital scales become increasingly inaccurate over time, partly due to worn springs in these types of scales.
Please note that electronic scales are sensitive to major temperature swings. Inaccuracies may occur if the scale is cold. The scale consequently functions best at normal room temperature.
Replacement and insertion of batteries
The scale requires 1 type CR2032 lithium battery which must be inserted before the scale can be taken into use. Allow the scale to adapt to room temperature before use.
To insert batteries remove the battery door on the back of scale. The battery can now be inserted or replaced by placing it in the battery compartment so that the battery is firmly fixed – make sure that the battery is placed correctly.
Re-attach battery door. When battery replacement is required, ▪ appears in the display.
Weighing
The scale reads '0'. Place the scale on a completely plain surface and switch it on by pressing ON/TARE/OFF button lightly. The scale is now ready for use. The scale can weigh up to a maximum of 5 kg.
When the scale is switched on, the top line in the display reads 'lb, fl. oz, g, ml'. Use the ON/TARE/OFF button to switch between g, fl. oz, lb oz, and ml inside the first 2 seconds after the scale has been switched on.
If g, fl. oz, lb oz, or ml is not selected inside the first 2 seconds, the display will automatically show readings in the previously selected measurement unit, e.g. 'lb OZ 0: 0.0', ml 0', 'fl. oz 0.0', or 'g 0'.
Reset
This kitchen scale is equipped with a convenient reset function which enables all ingredients to be weighed directly in the same bowl, one at a time. When you have finished weighing the first ingredient, the scale is reset by a quick tap on the 'ON/TARE/OFF button. If the ingredient weighs less than 50g, the display will read '0g'. If the ingredient weighs more than 50g, the display will read '0g' and 'TARE' in the lower left corner.
After resetting the scale is ready for weighing the next ingredient. Remember to reset after weighing each ingredient. If the most recently weighed ingredient is removed again after resetting, its weight will be displayed with a negative sign. Press reset and the scale is ready for use again. If the scale has not been reset after weighing the last ingredient, and this ingredient is removed, the scale will read 'O' again.
If the scale is overloaded (a load of more than 5 kg), the display will read "EEEE". Remove surplus ingredients from the scale, and it is ready for weighing again.
Switch-off
In order to save battery life the scale automatically switches off after approximately 180 seconds of non-use. The scale can also be switched off manually by pressing and holding the ON/TARE/OFF button for a few seconds.
Environmental considerations and disposal of batteries

Used batteries marked with the icon indicating separate waste collection must be returned to one of the authorized collection points. Batteries must be removed from the appliance before it is disposed of. Also take care that the batteries are not expired or become worn-out since there may then be a risk that the batteries will leak acid. Check the validity date printed on the batteries.
Disposing of the appliance

Legislation requires that all electrical and electronic equipment must be collected for reuse and recycling. Electrical and electronic equipment marked with the symbol indicating separate collection of such equipment must be returned to a municipal waste collection point.
