Frequently Asked Questions - TL-SF1005P TP-LINK

How do I set up the TL-SF1005P switch?
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable from your router to any port, then connect PoE devices to ports 1-4. Plug in the power adapter and the switch will start automatically. No configuration required.
What is the PoE budget and how many devices can I power?
The switch provides a total PoE budget of 58 W, with each port supporting up to 15.4 W (802.3af). You can power up to 4 PoE devices, such as IP cameras or access points, as long as total power consumption stays under 58 W.
Can I use non-PoE devices on the PoE ports?
Yes, the PoE ports are backward compatible. They will detect if a connected device requires PoE and only supply power if needed. Non-PoE devices will operate normally without damage.
What do the LED indicators mean?
The Power LED lights when the switch is powered. Each port has Link/Activity LED: solid on indicates a connection, blinking indicates activity. The PoE LED lights when PoE power is being supplied to that port.
Is the switch plug-and-play?
Yes, the TL-SF1005P is unmanaged and requires no configuration. Simply connect cables and power, and it works immediately.
Can I mount the switch on a wall?
Yes, the switch comes with a wall mount kit. Use the included screws to attach the mounting brackets to the switch, then secure it to a wall with appropriate anchors.
What should I do if the switch does not power on?
First, check that the power adapter is securely connected and the outlet is working. Try a different outlet. If the Power LED still does not light, the adapter may be faulty. Contact TP-Link support for a replacement.
What is the maximum cable length for Ethernet?
For optimal performance, use Cat5e or higher cables up to 100 meters (328 feet) per segment.
Does the switch support VLANs or managed features?
No, the TL-SF1005P is an unmanaged switch and does not support VLANs, QoS, or other managed features. It is designed for simple plug-and-play network expansion.
How do I clean and maintain the switch?
Disconnect the power adapter before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or sprays. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust.

  • Supports PoE Power up to 15.4W for each PoE port
  • Supports PoE Power up to 58W for all PoE ports
  • Plug and play, no configuration and installation required

Overview

TL-SF1005P is a 5 10/100Mbps ports unmanaged switch that requires no configuration and provides 4 PoE (Power over Ethernet) ports. It can automatically detect and supply power with all IEEE 802.3af compliant Powered Devices (PDs). In this situation, the electrical power is transmitted along with data in one single cable allowing you to expand your network to where there are no power lines or outlets, where you wish to fix devices such as APs, IP Cameras or IP Phones, etc.

Power Over Ethernet

4 of the 5 Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports (port-1 to port-4) of the switch support Power over Ethernet (PoE) function. These PoE ports can automatically detect and supply power with those IEEE 802.3af compliant Powered Devices (PDs).

Overload Arrangement

TL-SF1005P has the priority function which will help protect the system when the system power is overloaded. If all PoE PDs power consumption is >= 58W, a priority will be arranged among the PoE ports, then the system will cut off the power of the lowest-priority port.

Port Priority Function

Priority (port-1=port-2=port-3>port-4): This function helps ensure the normal operation of the system. It means Port 4 will be cut off when the total power consumption of all PoE PDs exceeds 58W. For example, if Ports 1, 2, and 4 are using 15.4W each (the maximum power per port is 15.4W), the system power totals 46.2W. If an additional PD is inserted into Port 3 with 12W, the system will cut off the power to Port 4 due to overload. This means Ports 1 and 2 will use 15.4W each, Port 3 will use 12W, and no power will be supplied to Port 4.

Ease of Use

The TL-SF1005P is easy to install and use. It requires no configuration and installation is straightforward. With its desktop design, outstanding performance, and quality, TP-Link's TL-SF1005P 5-Port 10/100Mbps Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE is an ideal choice for expanding your home or office network.
