Frequently Asked Questions - Lycos 40/370 M Wolf Garten

How to adjust the cutting height?
Use the central lever located on the housing to adjust the cutting height to multiple levels (generally from 25 to 75 mm).
Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, but only use a suitable extension cord for outdoor use, with a minimum cross-section of 1.5 mm² and not exceeding 30 meters to avoid power loss.
How to empty the grass catcher?
Stop the motor and unplug the mower. Lift the soft bag by its handle and empty it into a composter or a designated bag.
What to do if the blade no longer cuts properly?
The blade may be dull. Sharpen it with a flat file or replace it with a new blade conforming to the manufacturer's specifications.
How to clean the mower after use?
Unplug the appliance. Use a brush and water to remove grass from the housing and bag. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner.
The mower does not start, what to check?
Check that the plug is connected, that the cable is not damaged, and that the safety switch is pressed correctly.
Can you mow wet grass?
It is not recommended to mow wet grass as it can clog the bag and damage the motor. Wait until the grass is dry.
How to store the mower in winter?
Clean it thoroughly, drain the tank (if petrol) and store it in a dry, frost-free place. For an electric model, store the cable without bending it.
Where to find spare parts?
Spare parts (blade, wheels, bag, cable) are available on the Wolf Garten website or from authorized dealers.
What type of blade to use for mulching?
For mulching, you need a special mulching blade (often sold as an option) that finely chops the grass and redeposits it on the lawn.

Mulching (Fig. S)

During mulching, the grass is cut multiple times using a special cutting system and fed back into the ground. This means there is no grass waste. Moreover mulching protects the lawn against drying out. The mulched grass contains lots of nutrients. To obtain optimum results, the grass must be kept short. You can find more information in the section "Lawn care tips".

Depending on the growth of the grass, we recommend mulching 1 – 2 per week. When doing so the grass must not be too long or too moist!

→ When mulching, push the lawnmower slowly.
→ Also ensure that the cutting stripes always overlap.
→ Do not cut more than 20 mm of grass.

Wolf Garten Lycos 40/370 M - Note - 1

Note

If the lawn is mossy or contains lots of thatch, mulching is not worthwhile because the grass cuttings remain on the surface of the moss or thatch and thus cannot be fed into the ground.

→ Dethatch and fertilize the lawn regularly.

Lawn care tips (Fig. N)

A lawn comprises various grass types. If you mow more frequently, the grown of strongly-rooting grasses is favoured resulting in firm turf. If you mow only rarely, the growth of tall grasses and other weeds (e.g. clover, daisies) is encouraged. To ensure you lawn grows healthily and uniformly, without any lines, the cutting stripes must always overlap by a couple of inches/several centimetres

N.

  • The normal height of the grass is 40–50 mm. Cut approximately one third of the overall height as soon as the lawn has reached a height of 60–70 mm.
