Frequently Asked Questions - Fønvind FH-1R WILFA

What do the power settings on the Wilfa Fønvind FH-1R mean?
The heater has three settings: 1000W for hot air, 2000W for very hot air, and No frost mode (snowflake symbol) which automatically heats when the room temperature falls below +5°C. The dial also has an '0' position to turn off the heater.
How does the topple switch work?
The topple switch is a safety feature that automatically disconnects the heater if it leans more than 30° forward or backward. Once the appliance is returned to an upright position, it will switch on again automatically.
What should I do if the heater overheats and shuts off?
If the overheating safety mechanism activates, unplug the heater and allow it to cool for at least ten minutes. Ensure it is positioned with proper clearance (50 cm above/sides, 120 cm front) and that no dust or obstructions block the air inlets or outlets. Clean the grille with a hoover if necessary.
Can I use the heater in a bathroom?
No. The manual warns never to install or operate the fan heater close to a bath tub, shower, wash basin, or swimming pool. The heater must not come into contact with water.
How do I clean the filter?
The filter should be checked and cleaned monthly. You can clean it with a hoover or wash it in a dishwasher on the lowest temperature setting. Regular cleaning prevents dust from blocking airflow and causing overheating.
What does the 'No frost' function do?
The 'No frost' mode allows the heater to automatically start heating when the room temperature drops below +5°C. This helps prevent freezing in unoccupied spaces like garages or cabins, but the heater must be placed safely and not covered.
Is it safe to cover the heater?
No. The manual explicitly warns never to cover the hot air outlet (symbol on heater) or the intake. Covering can lead to overheating, fire, or electric shock. Ensure nothing is hanging above or in front of the heater.
What is the correct way to position the heater?
Place the heater on a floor against a wall, or on a wall using the support foot. Maintain at least 50 cm of clearance above and on the sides, and 120 cm at the front. Do not place on thick carpets, and ensure the power cord is not under the heater.
Can children use this heater?
Children aged 8 years and above can use the heater under supervision. Children under 3 years must be kept away unless continuously supervised. Children aged 3-8 years can only switch it on/off if it is in normal operating position and they are supervised. Note that parts of the heater become very hot and can cause burns.
What should I do if the power cord is damaged?
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard. Do not use the heater until the cord is repaired.

  • Never turn the fan heater on if the power cord has been damaged, or if the heater's casing is obviously damaged or was damaged as a consequence of being dropped.
  • The fan heater is excellent to provide extra heating, but should not be used as the main source of heating.
  • Ensure that the fan heater never comes into contact with water.
  • Do not poke anything through the ventilation slits.
  • Always use the fan heater on a floor or against a wall (not on thick carpets). Leave plenty of room around the heater (at least 50 cm above and at the sides and 120 cm at the front).
  • Ensure that nothing is hanging above or in front of the fan heater (e.g. clothing or fabrics). Check that the air inlets and outlets on the heater are unhindered, otherwise it may overheat. Dust these openings regularly.
  • Never place the fan heater under a water tap.
  • WARNING: Never install or operate the fan

heater close to a bath tub, shower, wash basin or swimming pool.

  • This heater must never be used in any kind of vehicle (cranes, motor vehicles, cars, lifts etc.).

Overheating safety mechanism

The safety mechanism will cut off the power as soon as the heating element

becomes too hot. This is to avoid problems with overheating.

If this should happen:

  • Pull the plug out of the mains socket.
  • Leave the fan heater to cool for ten minutes.
  • Ensure that the heater is positioned in accordance with instructions.
  • Check that no dust or other obstacles are blocking the flow of air.
  • Clean the grille with a hoover if necessary.

Cleaning

  • Turn the switch to "0". Allow the fan heater to cool down.
  • Pull the plug out of the mains socket.
  • Clean the outside of the fan heater with a damp cloth.
  • Never allow water to drip into the fan heater.
  • Do not immerse the fan heater in water.
  • Clean the air openings regularly with a hoover as required.

Position the fan heater so that incoming and outgoing air is not hindered in any
way. Choose a safe place to avoid the risk of fire
(see also the section entitled "IMPORTANT"). See also the installation instructions
for the specific unit later in this user manual.

IMPORTANT ADDENDUM TO USER MANUAL

(FOR FILTER + FILTER HOLDER)

NB: The filter that comes with the appliance should be used to prevent dust from collecting on the heater's heating element.

The filter should be cleaned regularly (we suggest checking it once a month): clean the filter using a hoover; alternatively, the filter can be washed in a dishwasher on the lowest temperature setting.

Maintenance of the filter is extremely important. If the filter is not cleaned regularly, dust may affect the flow of air and cause the temperature switch inside the product to switch off when the unit is operating normally.
