Frequently Asked Questions - CIH9660S Elvita

How do I install the cooker?
Ensure the power supply is 230V and the cooker is placed on a stable, level surface. Connect using a qualified electrician. Refer to the manual for clearances and anti-tip bracket installation.
How do I use the oven for the first time?
Before first use, run the oven empty at 250°C for 30 minutes to burn off any manufacturing residues. Then allow it to cool and clean the interior with a damp cloth.
How do I clean the ceramic hob?
Use a ceramic hob scraper for burnt-on residues and a special ceramic hob cleaner with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges.
Why is the hob not heating?
Check that the hob is turned on at the control knob and the corresponding indicator light is lit. If not, ensure the child lock is deactivated. If still not heating, contact service.
How do I activate the child lock?
Press and hold the lock key for 3 seconds until an indicator appears. Repeat to unlock. This prevents accidental operation.
What are the oven symbols?
The symbols include: a light bulb for oven light, a fan for fan-assisted, a zigzag line for grill, and standard top/bottom heat. Consult the manual for exact meanings.
How do I replace the oven light?
Disconnect power, remove the glass cover inside the oven, replace the bulb (usually G9, 25W) and refit the cover. Use a bulb suitable for high temperatures.
Why does the oven door not close properly?
Check if anything is blocking the door seal. If the hinge is loose, adjust the screws. If damaged, replace the hinge. The door should close with a slight pressure.
How can I save energy while using the cooker?
Use lids on pans, preheat the oven only if necessary, and turn off the hob a few minutes before the end of cooking to use residual heat.
What should I do if the cooker is not working?
First, check the power supply and circuit breaker. Ensure the timer is not set. If the error code appears, consult the manual. If unresolved, call a qualified technician.

3.2 Choosing the right cookware

Elvita CIH9660S - Choosing the right cookware - 1

- Only use cookware with a base suitable for induction cooking. Look for the induction symbol on the packaging or on the bottom of the pan.

- You can check whether your cookware is suitable by carrying out a magnet test. Move a magnet towards the base of the pan. If it is attracted, the pan is suitable for induction.

• If you do not have a magnet:

  1. Put some water in the pan you want to check.

  2. If does not flash in the display and the water heats up, the pan is suitable.

- Cookware made from the following materials is not suitable: pure stainless steel, aluminium or copper without a magnetic base, glass, wood, porcelain, ceramic, and earthenware.

Make sure that the base of your pan is smooth, sits flat against the glass, and is the same size as the cooking zone. Use pans whose diameter is as large as the graphic of the zone selected. If you use a pot that is slightly wider, energy will be used at its maximum efficiency. If you use smaller pot, efficiency could be less than expected. Pots smaller than 140 mm may not be detected by the hob. Always centre your pan on the cooking zone.

4. Cooking guidelines

Elvita CIH9660S - Cooking guidelines - 1

Take care when frying, as the oil and fat heat up very quickly, particularly if you're using the boost function. At extremely high temperatures oil and fat will ignite spontaneously and this presents a serious fire risk.

4.1 Cooking tips

  • When food comes to the boil, reduce the temperature setting.
  • Using a lid will reduce cooking times and save energy by retaining the heat.
  • Minimize the amount of liquid or fat to reduce cooking times.
  • Start cooking on a high setting and reduce the setting when the food has heated through.

4.1.1 Simmering, cooking rice

  • Simmering occurs below boiling point, at around 85°C, when bubbles are just rising occasionally to the surface of the cooking liquid. It is the key to delicious soups and tender stews because the flavours develop without over-cooking the food. You should also cook egg-based and flour-thickened sauces below boiling point.
  • Some tasks, including cooking rice by the absorption method, may require a setting higher than the lowest setting to ensure the food is cooked properly in the time recommended.

4.1.2 Searing steak

To cook juicy flavorsome steaks:

  1. Stand the meat at room temperature for about 20 minutes before cooking.
  2. Heat up a heavy-based frying pan.
  3. Brush both sides of the steak with oil. Drizzle a small amount of oil into the hot pan and then lower the meat onto the hot pan.
  4. Turn the steak only once during cooking. The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness of the steak and how well cooked you want it. Times may vary from about 2 to 8 minutes per side. Press the steak to gauge how cooked it is – the firmer it feels the more ‘well done’ it will be.
  5. Leave the steak to rest on a warm plate for a few minutes to allow it to relax and become tender before serving.

4.1.3 For stir-frying

  1. Choose an induction-compatible flat-based wok or a large frying pan.
  2. Have all the ingredients and equipment ready. Stir-frying should be done quickly. If cooking large quantities, cook the food in several smaller batches.
  3. Preheat the pan briefly and add two tablespoons of oil.
  4. Cook any meat first, put it aside and keep warm.
  5. Stir-fry the vegetables. When they are hot but still crisp, turn the cooking zone to a lower setting, return the meat to the pan and add your sauce.
  6. Stir the ingredients gently to make sure they are heated through.
  7. Serve immediately

4.2 Detection of small articles

When an unsuitably sized or non-magnetic pan (e.g. aluminium), or some other small item (e.g. knife, fork, key) has been left on the hob, the hob automatically goes into standby mode in around 1 minute. The fan will keep cooling down the induction hob for a further 1 minute.

5. Heat settings

The settings below are guidelines only. The exact setting will depend on several factors, including your cookware and the amount you are cooking. Experiment with the induction hob to find the settings that best suit you.

Heat setting Suitability
1-2 • delicate warming for small amounts of food• melting chocolate, butter, and foods that burn quickly• gentle simmering• slow warming
3-4 • reheating• rapid simmering• cooking rice
5-6 • pancakes
7-8 • sautéing• cooking pasta
9/P • stir-frying• searing• bringing soup to the boil• boiling water

6. Care and cleaning

Everyday soiling on glass (fingerprints, marks, stains left by food or non-sugary spillovers on the glass)1. Switch the power to the induction hob off.2. Apply an induction hob cleaner while the glass is still warm (but not hot!).3. Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.4. Switch the power to the induction hob back on.·When the power to the induction hob is switched off, there will be no ‘hot surface’ indication but the cooking zone may still be hot! Take extreme care.·Heavy-duty scourers, some nylon scourers and harsh/abrasive cleaning agents may scratch the glass. Always read the label to check if your cleaner or scourer is suitable.·Never leave cleaning residue on the induction hob: the glass may become stained.
Boilovers, melts, and hot sugary spills on the glassRemove these immediately with a fish slice, palette knife or razor blade scraper suitable for glass induction hobs, but beware of hot cooking zone surfaces:1. Turn the power to the induction hob off.2. Hold the blade or utensil at a 30° angle and scrape the stain or spill to a cool area of the induction hob.3. Clean the stain or spill up with a dishcloth or paper towel.4. Follow steps 2 to 4 for ‘Everyday soiling on glass’ above.·Remove stains left by melts and sugary food or spillovers as soon as possible. If left to cool on the glass, they may be difficult to remove or even permanently damage the glass surface.·Cut hazard: when the safety cover is retracted, the blade in a scraper is razor-sharp. Use with extreme care and always store safely and out of reach of children.
Spillovers on the touch controls1. Switch the power to the induction hob off.2. Soak up the spill.3. Wipe the touch control area with a clean damp sponge or cloth.4. Wipe the area completely dry with a paper towel.5. Switch the power to the induction hob back on.·The induction hob may beep and turn itself off, and the touch controls may not function while there is liquid on them. Make sure you wipe the touch control area dry before turning the induction hob back on.
