Accessories

Steam basket

Metal stand

Important!

Replace the sealing ring and rubber gasket once a year or once every two year, depending on the frequency of use. Use only OBH Nordica pressure cooker spare parts for this pressure cooker. These parts can be ordered from OBH Nordica spare parts 08-445 79 00.

Instructions for use

  • Before each use, check that the safety valve housed on the inside of the handle is not obstructed.
  • At least 0.25 litres of liquid is required to generate steam, regardless if you are cooking with or without steam basket and metal stand.
  • To brown food before cooking (e.g. onions, meat) use the pressure cooker body as a traditional pot. Before continuing the cooking with the pressure cooker, make sure to add correct amount of liquid and stir to remove burned food from the inside bottom. Close the lid and wait for pressure to build up.

How to close and open the lid

The pressure cooker has only one closed position. Align “O” on the lid and the triangle on the long handle on the body. Turn the lid clockwise as far as possible and make sure the lid handle and the body handle align with each other. Look the pressure cooker by pressing the button down.

If the lid is not closed properly, pressure will not build up inside the pressure cooker. When the heating source has been turned off, there are two alternatives for opening of the lid.

Let the pressure cooker cool down naturally, and open the lid when the indication rod is 1. back to normal position. If you want to speed up the cool down time, place the pressure cooker in the sink under a gentle stream of cold running water. Never submerge the pressure cooker in water.

  1. Use the pressure regulator to 📋 and have the pressure to go down faster. Be careful to prevent scalding, as there is a lot of steam released during this process.

When the indication rod is back to normal position and indicating there is no pressure inside the pressure cooker, press the button in forward direction. Rotate the lid counter clockwise. When "O" and the triangle are aligned with each other, the lid can be removed by lifting upwards.

NEVER FORCE THE LID OPEN. ENSURE THAT THE PRESSURE HAS DROPPED COMPLETELY BEFORE OPENING.

Cooking

To cook with the pressure cooker, it is important to fill the pressure cooker with liquid which is able to steam after boiling (e.g. water, soup, stock or wine). Never fill the pressure cooker with food and liquid above the MAX marking on the inside measurement scale. Fill only halfway when cooking food which will expand in size and/or produce foam.

Place the closed pressure cooker on an appropriate size of the heating source. This OBH Nordica pressure cooker is suitable for all kind of stoves such as electric, gas, halogen, ceramic and induction.

Choose high or low pressure (symbol H or L) on the pressure regulator, depending on the food to be cooked. During cooking, do not turn the pressure regulator to symbol φ . The valve will move up and release from its position.

Turn the heating source to maximum heat. When the indication rod moves up and a continual stream of steam escapes from the working valve, reduce the heat just enough to maintain sufficient pressure to ensure a steady steam outlet. The cooking time is measured from this point.

Use the cooking time reference chart in this instruction manual as guideline. Adjust them to suit your personal taste, cooking style, ingredients etc.

After the cooking time has passed, turn off the heating source and remove the lid by following the instructions above “How to close and open the lid”.

How to avoid excessive pressure

The pressure cooker has two excessive pressure prevention systems:

Working valve: when the pressure inside the cooker corresponds to the selected working pressure, the working valve allows steam to escape, thus preventing the pressure from increasing.

Safety valve: this is located on the inside of the lid handle. It is activated only when the working valve fails to carry out its function (e.g. when it is dirty) and causes a large quantity of steam to escape from all around the lid handle. If this happens, clean the working valve immediately.

Steam basket

With the steam basket, it is possible to cook several foods simultaneously. The steam basket is used to separate the different food with different cooking time from each other. To begin, put the food which require the longest cooking time directly in the pressure cooker first.

Example:

Roast: cooking time 20 min

Whole large potatoes: cooking time 10 min

Start cooking the roast. After 10 minutes, release the steam and open the pressure cooker. Put the potatoes in the steam basket on top of the roast. Close the lid and cook for another 10 minutes.

Opening the pressure cooker during the cooking process allows steam to escape. Therefore, add a little extra liquid to the pressure cooker than required from the beginning.

Frozen food

Frozen food can be cooked in the pressure cooker without having to defrost first. Meat must be slightly defrosted before browning. The cooking time will stay the same for fresh food as for frozen food, but the heating up time will be prolonged.

Sterilising

The pressure cooker can be used to quickly sterilize products (e.g. baby bottles, preserving jars etc). Place the product with the opening facing downwards in the steam basket. Place the steam basket on the metal stand and add 0,25 litres of water. Position the pressure regulator to symbol H and start the heating source. Let it sterilize for 20 minutes. Allow to cool down slowly afterwards.

Cleaning and maintenance

  • After each use, wash the pan with hot water and normal detergent. Rinse and dry using a soft cloth.
  • Never wash the pressure cooker in the dishwasher. This precaution must be followed in order not to damage the rubber parts in the lid.
  • Do not use wire sponges or abrasive products, as these can scratch and damage the stainless steel surface.

Complete cleaning

1. Pressure regulator cleaning

Move out the pressure regulator after each use by pressing it slightly and rotating part (6a) counter clockwise to rotate into position ⏻. Completely detach each part from 6a. Be careful to make sure the spring remains in the valve. Rinse every part carefully in water and reassemble them together. Press part 6a to confirm whether it turns smooth and right. If it does not turn smooth and right, the spring is not correctly fitted.

2. Vent pipe

After the working valve and the pressure regulator is moved out, rinse the vent pipe with warm water and then check whether the vent pipe is blocked by anything. Make sure the inside and outside of the vent pipe is cleaned completely.

Place the working valve with the symbol and the arrow facing each other. Press slightly and turn clockwise. The working valve is now back in its position.

3. Safety valve

Check and clean the nozzle outlet with pressurised water and/or by pressing a narrow tool on the center cylinder. The cylinder should be able to move downwards and flex back to original position.

Trouble shooting

It happens:

Indicator rod does not move up or pressure does not build in the pressure cooker.

Possible reason:

  1. The heating temperature is too low
  2. There is not enough liquid in the cooker
  3. The handle on the lid and the handle on the body are not correctly fitted or the locking button is not in the right position
  4. The rubber gasket is not clean.

Solution:

  1. Increase the heat

  2. Increase the amount of liquid

  3. Release the pressure inside (if there is any) and redo the fitting of the handles by pushing the plate into the correct position.
  4. Clean the rubber gasket.

It happens:

Steam escapes from underneath the cover.

Possible reason:

  1. The rubber gasket is not clean.
  2. The rubber gasket is worn out.

Solution:

  1. Clean the rubber gasket.
  2. Replace the rubber gasket to a new. The Rubber gasket counts as wear parts and is not covered by the warranty. These parts can be ordered from OBH Nordica spare parts 08-44579 00.

It happens:

If soup or steam escapes from around the pressure regulator

Possible reason:

  1. The heating temperature is too high.
  2. The pressure cooker is filled over its maximum capacity.

Solution:

  1. Decrease the heat.
  2. Fill only the pressure cooker with liquid and food to MAX marking on the inside measurement scale.

It happens:

If indicator rod does not move down and release system do not open.

Possible reason:

  1. There is still pressure in the cooker.

Solution:

  1. Turn off the heating source. Let the pressure release completely by setting the pressure regulator to 🔗 position.

It happens:

If opening and closing system does not work and the lid can not be locked.

Possible reason:

  1. The mark "O" and the triangle are not aligned properly.
  2. The rubber gasket is not in correct position

Solution:

  1. Lift off the lid and use the markings to make the lid and body handles align properly.

  2. Lift off the lid and remove the rubber gasket. Put the rubber gasket back again and make sure it is in correct position. Use the markings to make the lid and body handles align properly and close the lid.

It happens:

Steam is constantly escaping from the safety valve.

Possible reason:

  1. The pressure in the cooker is excess as the vent pipe is damaged or the regulator is not clean.
  2. The safety valve sealing ring is worn out or damaged.
  3. The safety valve sealing ring is not at the right position.

Solution:

  1. Turn off the heat immediately, release the steam and open the pressure cooker after it is completely decompressed. Clean the pressure regulator and vent pipe as instructed in “Cleaning and maintenance” and check if any parts are damaged. If there is no visible damage, close the lid and continue cooking.
  2. Replace the safety valve sealing ring. The sealing ring counts as wear parts and is not covered by the warranty. These parts can be ordered from OBH Nordica spare parts 08-44579 00.
  3. Turn off the heat immediately, release the steam and open the pressure cooker after it is completely decompressed. Fit the sealing ring around the groove in the safety valve.

It happens:

If the rubber gasket extrudes through the safety vent on the lid.

Possible reason:

  1. The rubber gasket is worn.
  2. Over high pressure is used.

Solution:

  1. Replace the rubber gasket. The rubber gasket counts as wear parts and is not covered by the warranty. These parts can be ordered from OBH Nordica spare parts 08-445 79 00.
  2. Remove the pressure cooker from the heating source immediately. Release the pressure and open the lid. Check if anything is blocking the working valve or the safety valve. Retry to build pressure. If the rubber gasket is extruding again, stop using the pressure cooker. Return the pressure cooker to the store of purchase.
