Frequently Asked Questions - WHB-7 WILFA

Can I machine wash my Wilfa electric blanket?
No, you must hand wash only. Machine washing may damage the heating elements and void the warranty.
What do the control settings mean?
The control has 4 positions: Off, Pre-heat (rapid warm up), All Night (setting 1), and All Night Plus (setting 2). Use Pre-heat to warm the bed before getting in, then switch to an All Night setting for comfortable sleep.
How do I fit the tie-down blanket?
Place the blanket on the mattress, thread the tie tapes under the mattress and through the corresponding loops, and tie tightly. Follow the diagrams in the manual (Fig.1–5) to avoid ruches that could trigger the overheat protection system.
Can I use this blanket on an adjustable bed?
No, this blanket is not designed for adjustable beds. Using it on an adjustable bed may cause the cord or blanket to become caught or ruched, leading to overheating.
Is it safe to leave the blanket on all night?
Yes, the All Night settings are designed for safe overnight use. The control system automatically maintains the selected temperature throughout the night.
How should I dry the blanket after washing?
Dry the blanket flat on a clean surface or hang on a line (do not use pegs on wired areas). Ensure the blanket is thoroughly dried before reconnecting the controls.
What happens if the blanket gets wrinkled?
Wrinkles can trigger the overheat protection system, rendering the blanket permanently inoperable and voiding the warranty. Always ensure the blanket is flat and crease-free during use.
Can I use this blanket for a child or pet?
No, this blanket is for human use only and is not recommended for infants, infirm persons, or pets. It is unsuitable for bedwetters.
How often should I wash the blanket?
With normal use, it is recommended to hand wash once a year. Follow the washing instructions to avoid damage.
What should I do if the control cord is damaged?
Discontinue use immediately and contact Wilfa or a qualified service agent. Do not attempt to repair or replace parts yourself.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND RETAIN FOR FUTURE USE

This blanket has been manufactured to the highest standards and has been inspected and tested to ensure safety, comfort and reliability. Providing you follow all of these instructions carefully you will ensure many years of trouble free use.

OPERATION

This blanket is designed and fully approved for all night use. It also has a pre-heat facility in order for you to warm your bed prior to getting into it. The time taken to pre-heat the bed will depend on the ambient temperature of the bedroom and whether an electric blanket has been used to air the bed on a regular basis. For a normal ambient temperature you should allow approximately 60 - 90 minutes on the pre-heat setting marked on the switch. A cold room or bed that has not been used for some time will require a greater length of time on the pre-heat setting.

The blanket must always be used with the WILFA control switch supplied (or switches if it is a dual control version).

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Remove the tags from the tie-tapes.
  • Pass the middle tie tape under the middle of the mattress and through the middle loop on the opposite side. Tie tightly and securely (refer Fig 1).

  1. Fit the side skirts around the edges of the mattress then locate the draw-string at the foot-end of the bed. Gently tighten the drawstring until the blanket fits snuggly around the mattress base and then lightly tie.
  2. Spread the skirt around the mattress edge ensuring even tension and making sure the blanket is placed evenly over the mattress.

Re-tighten the draw-string once more and once the blanket is flat and crease free tie a firm knot.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE FITTING INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN THE BLANKET BECOMING RUCHED, WHICH WILL TRIGGER THE OVERHEAT PROTECTION SYSTEM AND RENDER THE BLANKET PERMANENTLY INOPERATIVE. THIS MAY INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY.

Care should also be taken if you are using a continental quilt because heat

will build up more quickly than with other bed coverings. A short period may only be needed to reach maximum temperature depending on the insulation density of your quilt. This also applies if using additional bed blankets.

WHEN FIRST USING YOUR WILFA ELECTRIC BLANKET

Most mattresses and bedding absorb moisture which can harbour dust mites and encourage moulds. Wilfa electric blankets are an effective prevention to these conditions. It is recommended that once correctly fitting your blanket, you run your blanket on the highest setting for 3 hours in a well ventilated room to ensure all moisture is removed from your mattress. During this time you may notice a slight odour which is harmless and will disappear.

N.B. Do not place any objects such as washing baskets, bags, suit cases etc or sit on the bed while the blanket is operating as this may create a hot spot and trigger the over temperature safety device thus rendering the blanket permanently inoperable.

CONNECTING UP THE BLANKET

Before connecting up the blanket please check that the voltage indicated on the blanket label corresponds with the mains voltage in your home.

For controlled models each half of the blanket is controlled by a separate switch with a mains plug. If a single socket is available, use a two way adaptor.

By following the above directions your blanket should now be securely attached to the mattress. Simply connect the controls by inserting the connector plug into the socket (see fig 1.). Ensure the plug is firmly inserted then connect the plug end of the control to the power outlet and switch on. The flexible cord and switch must be kept outside the bed and away from open windows or exposed to moisture.

ENSURE NO OBJECTS ARE PLACED INTO THE CONTROL

SOCKET AT THE POWER OUTLET END. THIS IS LIVE AT 230V

AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

With normal use it is recommended that you hand wash your blanket once a year.

All WILFA electric blankets feature waterproof heating elements and detachable controls making them perfectly safe for full hand washing. Your WILFA electric blanket must not be washed in a washing machine as this process may harm your blanket, affecting its ability to operate efficiently. Using a washing machine will void the warranty offered with your blanket.

PLEASE ENSURE THE BLANKET IS TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER BEFORE ANY CLEANING COMMENCES.

HAND WASHING

Please ensure all controls are unplugged from the electric blanket before cleaning (see figure 1)

Place your blanket in lukewarm water (bathtub or large laundry tub is ideal) mixed with either a natural wool detergent or with mild soap flakes. Soak the blanket for approximately five minutes, then gently squeeze the soapy water through the blanket. Rinse thoroughly with clean lukewarm water until no suds are visible and allow water to drain off the blanket.

DRYING

Two options are available for drying your WILFA Electric blanket.

  1. Spread the blanket out on a clean, flat surface (e.g. On a large table) to dry in a shady area.
  2. Your blanket can also be dried on a clothes line provided the blanket is not creased or folded and as long as pegs are not used on the wired areas of the blanket.

IMPORTANT

The Electric blanket must be thoroughly dried (including control sockets) before being re-fitted to your bed.

Do Not bleach or use differentials with bleach Do Not gentle dry Do Not into Hang on line any where excess water has been removed Do not winging Do not dry clean Do not machines wash hand wash only

SPOT CLEANING

TREATMENT FOR LOCALISED SOILING

The area affected should be sponged gently using a natural wool detergent or mild soap flakes in lukewarm water, followed by two spongings with clean lukewarm water.

Lightly compress the treated area between two towels to absorb excess water and spread out flat to dry in a shady area.

The connections to the blanket should be kept free of moisture at all times.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

When not using your electric blanket during the summer months, it is worth noting that the quality fleece material will also provide a cooling effect during warmer weather. However, if you choose to store your blanket, simply unplug and remove controls and loosely roll the blanket being careful not to crease. Keep the blanket and the controls in a safe dry place in a suitable storage bag. Ensure that no heavy items are placed on top of the blanket as this may

damage the elements.
