AC Line Splitter Operating Instructions
Introduction
UT-LS15-US AC line splitter provides a safe and simple solution for measuring AC operating current of electrical devices.
A power cord includes a live wire and a neutral wire insulated from each other. When measuring current flowing through a conductor with a clamp meter, a reading of zero will always be measured if the jaw clamp around the entire power cord. This because the current flowing though live wire and neutral wire is in reverse, the current magnetic fields neutralized each other. In order to accurately measure current flowing through AC lines, the two wires need to be separated, clamp any one of them after removing the insulated jacket of the power cord to perform measurement. The AC line splitter can separate live wire and neutral wire without damaging any insulation.
To obtain more accurate reading when measuring small currents, the splitter increases readings by 10 times, which can then be measured by a clamp meter. Therefore, the measurement should be divided by 10 to get the actual result.
With proper use, the AC line splitter can provide users with many years of reliable service.
Warning
- Please read, understand and follow the safety rules and instructions in the manual.
- The protection is ineffective when the safety rules and instructions are not followed.
- For use on standard US, Canadian, and other same type of 125V AC outlets only.
- Do not test current of more than AC 15A.

Maintenance
Please maintain the AC line splitter according to the followings,
1. Keep the device dry. Please use clean cloth to wipe when the case or socket is wet. No wet splitter should be used.
2. Use and store the device in normal temperatures. Using or storing it in other temperatures may shorten its service life or melt its cover.
3. Use the device gently. Strong impact or drop from height can damage the electrical parts or the case.
4. Keep the device clean. Wipe dirt off with clean damp cloth. Do not use chemicals, cleaning solvents, or detergents.
Operating Instructions
- Plug the appliance being tested into the AC line splitter
-
Plug the line splitter into an AC outlet
-
Power on the appliance
- Follow the AC current measurement instructions of clamp meter
- Make sure the jaws are fully closed before taking a reading.
- Divide the clamp meter reading by 10 to get the actual operating current of the appliance. For example, if the clamp meter displays AC 10A, the actual operating current is AC 1A.
