Frequently Asked Questions - LAB 5.0 Toolcraft

How do I charge the microscope battery?
Connect the supplied USB cable to the 5V/DC charging port (A8) and a power adapter, or to a computer's USB port. The battery indicator LED glows red while charging and turns off when fully charged. Charging takes approx. 2 hours.
How do I take a photo with the microscope?
Press the mode button to select photo mode (camera icon). Focus the image using the fine focus dial, then press the image capture button (A7) to take a photo. Photos are saved to the microSD card.
Can I connect the microscope to a TV?
Yes. Connect the supplied AV cable to the AV-out port (A9) and to your TV. In the microscope menu, go to Setup and select TV Out (NTSC or PAL). Then select the corresponding input channel on your TV.
How do I calibrate the microscope for accurate measurements?
Focus on the supplied calibration ruler. In the software, double-click an image to enter measurement mode, click the calibration icon, then drag a line over a known distance (e.g., 1 mm). Enter the actual dimension; the software calculates magnification.
What software is included and how do I install it?
The bundled software is PortableCapture Plus. Download from www.conrad.com/downloads using item number 1713199. For Windows, run the installer; for Mac, open the .pkg file. Follow on-screen instructions.

Go to the microscope menu, select General settings, then Date/Time. Set the current date and time. Then enable Date Stamp to apply timestamps to photos and videos.
What should I do if the image is blurry?
First, adjust the fine focus dial (A3) slowly. Ensure the lens is clean. If reflection causes blur, reduce LED brightness using the dimmer (A11). Allow white balance to auto-adjust after changing magnification.
How do I clean the microscope lens?
Avoid touching the lens. Use low-pressure compressed air to remove dust. For stubborn dirt, use a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or chemical cleaners. Disconnect from power before cleaning.
How should I dispose of the rechargeable battery?
Do not dispose of batteries in household waste. Return used batteries to collection points in your municipality or stores. Follow local regulations. The battery is labeled with a crossed-out bin symbol.

  • The rechargeable battery should be removed from the device if it is not used for a long period of time to avoid damage through leaking. Leaking or damaged rechargeable battery might cause acid burns when

Toolcraft LAB 5.0 - b) Rechargeable Battery - 1

in contact with skin, therefore use suitable protective gloves to handle corrupted rechargeable battery.

  • Rechargeable battery must be kept out of reach of children. Do not leave rechargeable battery lying around, as there is risk, that children or pets swallow them.
  • Rechargeable battery must not be dismantled, short-circuited or thrown into fire. Never recharge non-rechargeable battery. There is a risk of explosion!
  • Do not charge the rechargeable battery via mains power supply while the microscope is connected to a powered USB 2.0 port. This may cause the battery to overheat.

c) Adaptor

  • Do not force the card into the slot as this may damage the microscope and the MicroSD memory card.
  • The base of the microscope may leave marks on sensitive surfaces.

e) Protection Against Dust

  • Dust and debris from the air can lead to deterioration of image quality. Keep the Microscope away from dusty environments.
  • The opening of the camera lens should always be protected either with dust covers such. Suitable options include aluminium foil or plastic bags.
  • If dark specks or similar in-focus artifacts are observed in digital images, and they are not in the specimen plane, their most likely cause is particulate contamination on the image sensor or an associated filter surface. The cameras always need to be handled with the utmost care and protected from dirt according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Before every critical use, check the front lens of the objective for dirt.
