Frequently Asked Questions - DGS 855 Rommelsbacher

How do I set the manual steaming time?
Press the on/off/programme button to turn on the steamer. Use the time setting buttons (+/-) to select the desired time (1-99 minutes). Press start/pause to begin. The appliance will automatically switch to keep-warm mode for 20 minutes after the time elapses.
What are the preset programmes and how do I use them?
There are 6 preset programmes: eggs, fish, vegetables, meat, poultry, and rice. Press the on/off/programme button repeatedly to cycle through the programmes. The preset time can be adjusted using the time setting buttons. Press start/pause to begin.
How do I use the flavour distribution cap?
Place up to 1-2 teaspoons of dried or chopped fresh herbs, spices, or other flavourings into the flavour distribution cap. The cap releases steam infused with the flavours during cooking, enhancing the taste of your food without direct contact.
How should I clean and descale the steamer?
Clean all removable parts (steaming trays, lid, universal bowl, condensate collector) with warm water and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Descale the appliance after 15 hours of use or when the ‘decalcify’ symbol appears. Use a descaling mixture as described in the manual, then rinse thoroughly.
How do I make rice in the steamer?
Put up to 250 g of rice (e.g., white or brown) into the universal bowl. Add water according to the steaming chart (e.g., 150 ml water for 100 g white rice). Place the bowl in the lowest steaming tray. Set the steaming time (e.g., 25 minutes for white rice) using the preset programme or manual timer.
How do I make eggs in the steamer?
Place up to 8 eggs into the egg holders (recesses in the steaming trays). For soft-boiled eggs, set 8 minutes; for hard-boiled, set 15 minutes. Use the Making eggs preset programme or manual time.
What is the maximum water capacity and how long does it last?
The water tank holds a maximum of 1.1 liters, which provides approximately 60 minutes of steaming time at full power. Refill water through the designated port during operation if needed.
How can I prevent burns while using the steamer?
Use pot cloths or oven mitts when handling hot parts. Keep your face and body away from the steam outlet. Do not open the lid suddenly; let steam escape carefully. Allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning or moving.
Can I pause the cooking process?
Yes, press the start/pause button during cooking. The appliance will pause and the timer will stop. Press start/pause again to resume. Note: do not open the lid during pause unless necessary.
How should I store the steamer?
Ensure the appliance is clean and dry. Store the steaming trays stacked (number 1 at bottom, number 3 on top) with the universal bowl and lid attached. Place the power cord in the storage compartment if available. Keep in a dry, accessible location.

Application possibilities

Steaming is one of the healthiest ways of cooking. It mostly preserves flavour, vitamins, colour and nutrients of fresh food. You can use grease, salt and spices sparingly. The appliance is especially suitable for steaming and cooking potatoes and vegetables of all kinds, fish, poultry, meat and eggs but also for rice, dumplings, pudding, stewed fruit and much more.

Flavour distribution cap

The integrated flavour distribution cap makes it possible to flavour the food to be cooked additionally. For this individual refinement, both dried and fresh herbs, spices and flavouring ingredients can be used. For example, nutmeg goes well with all kinds of cabbage, garlic with broccoli, chervil with peas, rosemary or nutmeg with potatoes, lemon balm with asparagus. For refining beef, green pepper corns are popular and curry flavour for chicken. Desserts can be refined by adding flavour of lemon zest or vanilla bean, too.

Prior to initial use

For a start, please clean the appliance as well as all attachments. For more detailed information please refer to "Cleaning and maintenance".
