What type of water should I use in the Becken BSS4426?

Use tap water. If you have very hard water, mix 50% distilled water with 50% tap water to reduce scale buildup. Do not use hot water, perfume, vinegar, starch, or other chemicals.

How do I descale the steam generator?

When the EASY DE-CALC light flashes (after 8 hours of use), switch off and unplug. Place the unit with the EASY DE-CALC knob over a cup, turn it anti-clockwise to drain water with scale. Retighten knob and restart. See manual for detailed steps.

Why does water drip from the soleplate?

This is usually due to steam condensation in the hose. Direct the iron away from the garment and let it steam for a few seconds. If persistent, the iron may need to warm up longer or descaling may be required.

How do I activate ECO mode on the BSS4426?

Press and hold the on/off button for 2 seconds. The light turns blue to indicate ECO mode, which reduces steam output to save energy. To return to normal mode, switch the generator off and on again.

Can I use the iron vertically to remove wrinkles from hanging clothes?

Yes, you can use the iron vertically. Hold it vertically, press the steam trigger, and lightly touch the fabric with the soleplate. Never direct steam at people or your hands.

What does the 'iron ready' light mean?

The light flashes during heating (approx. 2 minutes) and stays lit when the iron is ready for use. The blue light indicates level 1 (120 °C) and the green light indicates level 2 (170 °C).

How do I clean the soleplate?

Heat the iron and move it over a damp cloth to remove stains. For scale buildup, first descale the steam generator, then fill with 500 ml distilled water, heat for 5 minutes, and steam over a thick cloth until water stops coming out. Let cool and drain.

Why does the iron leave shiny marks on clothes?

Shine can occur when ironing over seams or folds. It is not permanent and will wash out. Use a cotton cloth over the area or avoid ironing directly over seams.

What should I do if steam comes out from under the EASY DE-CALC knob?

Switch off and let cool for 2 hours, then unscrew and retighten the knob properly. If steam still escapes, contact an authorized service center.

How do I store the iron after use?

Switch off and unplug. Empty the water tank. Place the iron on the platform, lock it if your model has a carry lock. Fold the hose and cord into their storage compartments. Carry using the iron handle, not the water tank release lever.

1.1. Power Supply

Make sure the main voltage is compatible with the appliance's. If this is not the case, please consult the Customer Support Service.

1.2. Power Cord and Other Cables

Do not tangle the cord or pull it to disconnect the appliance. Also, keep the cord away from warm surfaces.

Never use the appliance if it has a damaged cable or socket.

Take it to the Customer Support Service for replacement.

1.3. Humidity and Water

Do not use your appliance in humid places. Do not allow the appliance to become wet under any circumstances as this may be dangerous.

To avoid fire hazard or electric shock do not expose your appliance to humidity or water. Furthermore, do not place your appliance under water (e.g. for cleaning).

Before cleaning, be sure to switch off the appliance and remove the plug from the main power supply. Always allow the unit to cool down before cleaning.

2.2. Product usage

Preparing for use

Filling the detachable water tank

Do not put hot water, perfume, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids or other chemicals in the water tank.

Please fill the water tank before using the appliance and as soon as the 'water tank empty' light flashes.

1. Remove the detachable water tank from the steam generator and fill the water tank with tap water.

Note: Your appliance has been designed to be used with tap water. If you live in an area with very hard water, fast scale build-up may occur. In this case, it is recommended to mix 50% distilled water and 50% tap water to extend the life of your appliance.

1. Slide the water tank back into the steam generator ('click').

'Water tank empty' light

When the water tank is almost empty, the 'water tank empty' light goes on. Fill the water tank and when the 'water tank empty' light goes off, the iron will continue to heat up to start working.

Using the appliance

OptimalTemp technology

Do not iron non-ironable fabrics

This steam generator iron has two temperature levels as follows: Level 1:120 °C; Level 2: 170 °C

- Fabrics with these symbols are ironable, for example linen, cotton, polyester; silk, wool, viscose and rayon.

– Fabrics with this symbol are not ironable. These fabrics include synthetic fabrics such as Spandex or elastane, Spandex-mixed fabrics and polyolefins (e.g. polypropylene), but also prints on garments.

Ironing

1. Place the steam generator on a stable and even surface.
2. Make sure that there is enough water in the water tank (see section 'Filling the detachable water tank').

1. Insert the mains plug in an earthed wall socket and press the on/off button to switch the steam generator on. The 'iron ready' light starts flashing to indicate that the steam generator is heating up (this takes approx. 2 minutes).

When the 'iron ready' light stays lit, the steam generator is ready for use. * The blue light refers to level 1; press the T-Switch button to get the green light for level 2.

1. Specific types only: Press the carry lock release button to unlock the iron from the iron platform.

1. Press and hold the steam trigger to start ironing. Keep the steam trigger constantly pressed when you move the iron over the fabric.

Never direct steam at people.

Steam boost function

There are two steam boost functions for removing stubborn creases.

- Press the steam boost button for extra-strong steam output. - Press the steam trigger twice quickly for a high continuous steam output. You do not have to press the steam trigger continuously, which gives a more comfortable ironing experience.

Vertical ironing

Since the iron emits hot steam, never attempt to remove creases from a garment that someone is wearing. Do not apply steam near your own or someone else's hand.

You can use the iron in a vertical position to remove wrinkles from hanging fabrics.

1. Hold the iron in a vertical position, press the steam trigger and touch the garment lightly with the soleplate.

Putting down the iron during ironing

– During ironing, you can place the iron either on the iron platform or horizontally on the ironing board.

Thanks to the OptimalTemp technology, the soleplate will not damage the ironing board cover.

Energy saving

ECO mode

By using ECO mode (reduced amount of steam), you can save energy without compromising the ironing result.

1. To activate the ECO mode, press and hold the on/off button for 2 seconds. The light turns blue.
2. To switch back to the 'OptimalTemp' setting, switch the steam generator off and on again.

Safety Auto-off (specific types only)

The Safety Auto-off function automatically switches off the appliance if it has not been used for 10 minutes, to save energy.

2.3. Maintenance Cleaning and maintenance

IMPORTANT – Descaling the steam generator

To ensure a long life for your steam generator, it is very important that you perform the descaling procedure when the EASY DE-CALC light starts flashing.

- The Easy DE-CALC light starts flashing after a total of 8 working hours to indicate that the steam generator needs to be descaled. To descale the steam generator; perform the steps below.

Never remove the EASY DE-CALC knob when the steam generator is hot

1. Press the on/off button to switch off the steam generator and unplug the unit from the mains.
2. Place the steam generator on a stable table with the EASY DE-CALC knob sticking out beyond the edge of the table or take the steam generator to a sink.
3. Hold a cup under the EASY DE-CALC knob and turn the EASY DE-CALC knob anti-clockwise to let the water with scale particles flow into the cup. When no more water comes out of the steam generator, reinsert the EASY DE-CALC knob. Turn the knob clockwise to fasten it and plug back the unit to the mains.
   You can now use the steam generator again.

Cleaning the soleplate

Please clean the soleplate regularly to remove stains from the soleplate.

• To maintain a good gliding of your soleplate, it is recommended to clean it regularly (once every 2 months). You can do that by heating up the iron and moving the soleplate over a moist cloth.
• Descaling the soleplate: if you do not descale your steam generator regularly, scale may build up on the soleplate. You can remove this scale by following the instructions below:

1. Descale the steam generator before you clean the soleplate (see section 'IMPORTANT - Descaling the steam generator').

1. Tilt the steam generator and pour 500 mL of distilled water into the opening. Reinsert the EASY DE-CALC knob and turn the knob clockwise to fasten it.
2. Press the on/off button and wait for 5 minutes.

1. Put a piece of thick cloth on your ironing board. Place your iron on the cloth, and then press and hold the steam trigger. While pressing the steam trigger, slowly move the iron back and forth across the cloth until no water comes out anymore or when steam comes out.

Hot, dirty water is coming out of the soleplate.

1. Switch off the steam generator and let it cool down for 2 hours.
2. Remove the EASY DE-CALC knob and let the water flow into a cup. Reinsert the EASY DE-CALC knob and turn the knob clockwise to fasten it.
3. Repeat steps 2 to 6 of this cleaning procedure.

Storage

1. Switch off the steam generator and unplug it from the mains.
2. Remove the water tank and empty it.
3. Place the iron on the iron platform. Specific types only: push the carry lock to lock the iron onto the platform.

1. Fold the supply hose and mains cord. Put them in their respective storage compartments.
2. Specific types only: you can carry the appliance with one hand using the handle on the iron.

2.4. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible cause Solution
The ironing board cover becomes wet.	Steam has condensed on the ironing board cover after a long ironing session.	Replace the ironing board cover if the foam material has worn out. You can also add an extra layer of felt material under the ironing board cover to prevent condensation on the ironing board.
Water droplets come out of the soleplate.	The steam that was still present in the hose has cooled down and condensed into water.	Direct the iron away from the garment and let it produce steam for a few seconds.

Steam and/or water comes out from under the EASY DE-CALC knob.	The EASY DE-CALC knob is not properly tightened.	Switch off the appliance and wait for two hours to allow the steam generator to cool down. Unscrew the EASY DE-CALC knob and reattach it properly. Note: When you remove the knob, water will come out of the steam generator. If steam continues to escape, switch off the appliance and contact an authorised service centre.
Dirty water and impurities come out of the soleplate.	Impurities or chemicals present in the water have deposited in the steam vents and/or on the soleplate.	Descale the steam generator regularly. See section ‘Cleaning the soleplate’ in chapter ‘Cleaning and maintenance’.
	Too much scale and minerals have accumulated inside the steam generator	Descale the steam generator regularly.

Problem Possible cause Solution
The iron leaves a shine or an imprint on the garment.	The surface to be ironed was uneven, for instance because you were ironing over a seam or a fold in the garment.	Perfect Care is safe on all garments. The shine or imprint is not permanent and will come off if you wash the garment. Avoid ironing over seams or folds or you can place a cotton cloth over the area to be ironed to avoid imprints.
The steam generator does not produce any steam.	There is not enough water in the water tank (the ‘water tank empty’ light flashes).	Fill the water tank and press the steam trigger to let the appliance heat up again. When the ‘iron ready’ light stays lit, you can continue steam ironing.
	The steam generator is not hot enough to produce steam.	Wait until the ‘iron ready’ light on the iron lights stays lit.
	You did not press the steam trigger	Press the steam trigger and keep it pressed while you iron.
	The water tank is not placed properly in the steam generator	Slide the water tank firmly back into the steam generator (‘click’).
The steam generator produces a pumping sound.	This is normal because the water is pumped into the boiler inside the steam generator.	If the pumping sound continues nonstop, switch off the steam generator and unplug the unit from the mains. Contact an authorised service centre.

The steam generator produces a loud pumping sound intermittently.	There is not enough water in the water tank (the ‘water tank empty’ light flashes).	Fill the water tank and press the steam trigger to let the appliance heat up again. When the ‘iron ready’ light stays lit, you can continue steam ironing.

Becken has designed this appliance in order to guarantee maximum reliability. However, if a problem occurs do not attempt to open the appliance - there is a risk of electrical shock. If you are not able to solve the problem, please contact the Customer Support Service of any Worten, Modelo or Continente store in order to be assisted. Worten Equipamentos para o Lar provides a 2-year warranty for manufacturing defects from the date of purchase of the appliance.

WARNING: any attempt to repair the appliance without contacting the manufacturer or seller will void the warranty.
