How do I switch between Office and Gaming mode?

Press the CHERRY key (above the numerical keypad). The key changes color: standard color for Office mode, red for Gaming mode. In Gaming mode, the Win-Key lock is active to prevent accidental Windows commands.

How do I adjust the keyboard angle?

Use the screw-in feet on the bottom of the keyboard. Turn them evenly to continuously adjust the angle. Do not unscrew them more than 1.3 cm from the housing to avoid damage.

How do I record a macro?

Press the MR key (flashes). Enter the desired key combination (up to 128 strokes). Press the desired macro key (M1-M12 or MA-MC) to assign. The MR key flashes twice to confirm.

How do I delete a macro?

Press the MR key to start recording. Then press the macro key you want to delete. The key flashes twice to confirm deletion.

How do I change the keyboard illumination color?

Simultaneously press the illumination key (beside the jog dial) and the corresponding letter key for the desired color: R (red), G (green), B (blue), Y (yellow), C (cyan), P (pink), W (white), O (orange).

How do I adjust the brightness?

Press the illumination key next to the jog dial, then turn the jog dial. Brightness can be adjusted in 10 steps. The setting is stored automatically.

How do I update the firmware?

Download the latest firmware from www.cherry.de (Help & Support > Downloads). Run the *.exe file and follow on-screen instructions. Note: This resets all settings and deletes macros.

What should I do if the keyboard is not working?

Ensure both USB plugs are connected directly to high-powered USB ports on the computer. Check that Win-Key lock is not active. Update firmware. Test on another PC if possible. Enable 'USB Keyboard Support' in BIOS.

How do I clean the keyboard?

Switch off the PC or unplug the keyboard. Use a slightly damp cloth with mild detergent (e.g., dishwashing liquid). Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents or remove keycaps.

What is the Performance Key Kit?

The Performance Key Kit includes special keycaps for W, A, S, D and navigation keys. They have a structured surface for better grip and reduced pre-travel (from 2 mm to 1.6 mm, or even 1.1 mm with spacer discs) for faster response.

1 Connecting the keyboard

NOTE: Damage to USB ports on the computer/laptop.

If the keyboard is only connected with a USB plug, the USB port of the computer or laptop can be damaged or switched off due to overloading.

- Connect the keyboard with both plugs directly to the high-powered USB sockets of your computer or laptop. (Do not use external hubs or extension leads.)

The keyboard is ready to use without any software installation. You should check for firmware updates from time to time [see 9.2 "Updating the firmware"].

2 Adjusting the angle of the keyboard

The screw-in feet mean that the keyboard angle can be continuously adjusted.

NOTE: You will damage the feet if you unscrew them completely.

- Do not unscrew the feet by more than 1.3 cm from the housing, when you feel resistance.

- Unscrew or tighten the feet evenly on both sides until the angle is correct.

4 Volume

4.1 Adjusting the volume

1 Pres the key next to the jog dial.

2 Turn the jog dial.

The volume changes.

4.2 Sound on/off

1 Pres the key next to the jog dial.

2 Press the jog dial.

The sound is switched on or off.

5 Function of the CHERRY key

Use the CHERRY key ( ) to switch between Office and Gaming mode.

Office mode:

Office mode is suitable for entering text and numbers.

All Windows commands are available.

Gaming mode:

In Gaming mode, the Win-Key lock is activated. This stops you selecting Windows commands by mistake.

When the Win key lock is activated, the signals from the following keys are not sent to the PC:

- Windows key

- ALT + F4

• ALT + TAB

- CTRL + ALT + DEL

- To switch between Office and Gaming mode, press the CHERRY key (above the numerical keypad.

The color of the CHERRY key [changes between the color of the standard keys (Office mode) and red (Gaming mode). If you select red for the key illumination, the CHERRY key lights up white when active.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

6 Changin illumination

The brightness and color of the Ambilight can be changed or deactivated.

Special light effects can be selected for the keys. See 7 "Changing the light effect".

6.1 Changing the brightness of the keyboard illumination

You can adjust the brightness of the keys and the Ambilight in 10 speeds using the Standard, Breath, WASD, Wave and Snake effects.

1 To change the brightness, press the illumination key (☐ beside the jog dial.

2 Turn the jog dial. The keyboard illumination changes.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

6.2 Turning the keyboard illumination on and off

You can switch the backlighting of the keys and Ambilight on and off in three versions:

• The keyboard backlighting is fully on.

- The macro keys, the jog dial with the adjacent selection keys and the Ambilight light up. The remaining keypad is off.

• The keyboard backlighting is fully off.

1 Press the illumination key ( ) next to the jog dial.

2 Press the jog dial. The keyboard illumination changes.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

6.3 Changing the color of the keyboard illumination

You can choose between 8 colors.

The color of the Ambilight, the jog dial and the keys beside the jog dial is always white.

The status keys (NUM, shift and SCROLL) and the CHERRY key (light up red when active. If you select red for the key illumination, the status keys and CHERRY key light up white when active.

With the "WASD", "Wave" and "Reactive" light effects, only the colors of the macro keys can be selected.

- To change the color, simultaneously press the illumination key [icon] and the corresponding key from the table.

Example:

For the keys to light up blue, simultaneously press the illumination key I and the B key.

The keys light up blue.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

The keys have the following functions:

7 Changing the light effect

As well as constant backlighting of all keys (see 6.3 "Changing the color of the keyboard illumination"), you can choose 5 different light effects:

Name Effect

Breath The illumination changes smoothly between bright and dim.

WASD The "W", "A", "S", "D" and arrow keys beside the numerical block light up red. The other keys light up white.

Name Effect
Wave (Rainbow)	The keys light up from left to right in the colors of the rainbow. This effect looks best at a slow speed.
Snake Three keys in a row light up from one side to the other, from the top row to the bottom, giving the effect of a slithering snake. The set color remains the same.
Reactive Keys you press carry on flashing in different colors.

The light effects do not affect the macro keys.

You can adjust the brightness (see

6.1 "Changing the brightness of the keyboard illumination") and speed (see 7.2 "Changing the speed of the light effect") for some effects.

7.1 Selecting an effect

1 Press the CPG key next to the jog dial.
2 Press the jog dial until the effect you want appears.

The effects come in the following sequence: Standard, Breath, WASD, Wave, Snake and Reactive.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

7.2 Changing the speed of the light effect

You can adjust the speed for the Breath, WASD and Wave effects.

1 Press the CPG key next to the jog dial.

2 Turn the jog dial.

There are 10 speeds for each light effect. The setting is stored in the keyboard.

8 Storing and recalling keyboard macros

Without having to install any software, you can use the macro recorder function to store keyboard macros of up to 128 strokes. These can be recalled using 15 macro keys.

There are 12 macro keys on the top edge of the keyboard [M1 to M12]. There are three fast-access macro keys on the left side of the keyboard (MA to MC).

NOTE: Macro recall in real time

- Note that when recording macros, the pauses between strokes are also stored. These pauses are repeated when the macro is recalled.

8.1 Recording a macro

1 Press the MR key. The MR key flashes and the recording starts.

2 Enter the required key combination. [The sequence is later played back at the speed it was recorded.]

When you program macros, the keyboard illumination goes out. However, the keys you press light up (reactive mode).

• To break off the recording: Press the ME key.

3 Press the macro key you want to assign the recording to [e.g. M1]. The key flashes twice.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

8.2 Recalling a macro

NOTE: Key input during playback.

• If you press a key when playing back the macro, that entry is added to the playback.
• You cannot play back more than one macro simultaneously.

- Press the assigned macro key (e.g. M1).

The recording is played back. During the playback, the macro key lights up in different colors.

8.3 Deleting a macro

1 Press the MR key. The MR key flashes and the recording starts.

2 Press the macro key you want to delete (e.g. M1). The key flashes twice.

The setting is stored in the keyboard.

9 Tips

9.1 Cleaning

CAUTION: Damage may be caused by harsh cleaning agents or liquids in the keyboard

• Do not use solutions such as gasoline or alcohol and scouring agents or scouring sponges for cleaning.
• Prevent fluids from entering the devices.
• Do not remove the keycaps of the keyboard.

1 Switch off the PC/laptop or unplug the keyboard.
2 Clean the keyboard with a slightly damp cloth and some mild cleaning agent (e.g. dishwashing liquid).
3 Dry off the devices with a soft, lint-free cloth.

9.2 Updating the firmware

NOTE: When updating the firmware, the settings of the keyboard are reset to default values and the macros are deleted.

- Make a note of the settings and macros saved if necessary.

Always use the latest firmware. You can download it for free from: www.cherry.de > Help & Support > Downloads > CHERRY MX BOARD 9.0.

1 Load the file onto your PC/laptop.
2 Run the *.exe file.
3 Follow the instructions on the screen.

NOTE: If a firmware update is interrupted or fails, the keyboard will not work.

- Connect another keyboard to your PC or use a laptop and repeat the update.

9.3 RSI syndrome

RSI stands for "Repetitive Strain Injury". RSI arises due to small movements continuously repeated over a long period of time.

Typical symptoms are discomfort in the fingers or neck.

• Set up your workspace ergonomically.
• Position the keyboard and mouse in such a manner that your upper arms and wrists are outstretched and to the sides of your body.
• Select a comfortable keyboard angle using the screw-in feet on the back.
  • Take several short breaks, with stretching exercises if necessary.
• Change your posture often.

9.4 Troubleshooting

• Connect the keyboard with both plugs directly to the high-powered USB sockets of your computer or laptop. (Do not use external hubs or extension leads.)
• Make sure that the Win-Key lock is not activated (see 5 "Function of the CHERRY key").
• Update the firmware (see 9.2 "Updating the firmware").
• To make sure that the keyboard is not defective, test it if possible with another PC/laptop.
• Use another USB port on the PC/laptop.
• Set the option "USB Keyboard Support" or "USB Legacy Mode" to enabled in the BIOS of the PC.

10.1 Performance Key Kit

The Performance Key Kit contains key caps for the W, A, S and D keys as well as the 4 navigation keys.

The performance keys provide you with the following advantages:

• Special key profile with a structured surface for improved grip.
• Pre-travel reduced from 2 mm to 1.6 mm for faster response.
• The pre-travel can also be reduced to as little as 1.1 mm using the spacer discs enclosed.
