Frequently Asked Questions - DMX Split 8X RDM Eurolite

What is a DMX splitter and why do I need one?
A DMX splitter takes one DMX signal and distributes it to multiple outputs, ensuring signal integrity over long distances. The Eurolite DMX Split 8X RDM is essential when you need to connect multiple DMX devices without degrading the signal.
Does this splitter support RDM?
Yes, the Eurolite DMX Split 8X RDM supports RDM (Remote Device Management), allowing you to remotely configure and monitor connected devices.
How many devices can I connect to each output?
Each output can drive up to 32 DMX devices (standard DMX512 load). However, for best performance, keep the total cable length per output under 300 meters.
Can I daisy-chain multiple splitters?
Yes, you can connect the output of one splitter to the input of another. However, note that each splitter regenerates the signal, so there is no limit to the number of daisy-chained splitters in theory, but practical limits apply.
What power supply does it use?
It comes with an internal switching power supply (100-240 V AC) via an IEC inlet. It can also be powered by an external 12V DC source (not included).
What type of cables should I use?
Use DMX512-rated cables with XLR 3-pin connectors. Avoid microphone cables as they have different impedance.
Does it have signal isolation?
Yes, each output is galvanically isolated from the input and from each other, preventing ground loops and protecting your equipment.
How do I mount it?
It is designed for 19-inch rack mounting (1U). It also has rubber feet for tabletop use.
Are there LEDs to indicate status?
Yes, there are LEDs for power, DMX signal presence, and RDM activity on each output.
What is the maximum cable length from the splitter to a device?
The maximum recommended cable length per output is 300 meters (1000 feet) when using quality DMX cable.
