Frequently Asked Questions - Z31853A MELINERA

How do I turn on the light for the first time?
Ensure the battery is fully charged by placing the solar panel in direct sunlight for 6-8 hours. Then slide the power switch to the ON position. The light will automatically activate at dusk.
Can I replace the battery?
Yes, the battery is replaceable. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the unit, remove the old AA Ni-MH battery, and insert a new one with the correct polarity.
What type of battery does it use?
It uses a rechargeable AA Ni-MH battery with a capacity of 200 mAh or higher. Do not use alkaline batteries.
Why does the light stay off at night?
Check that the power switch is set to ON. Also ensure the solar panel is clean and not shaded during the day. If the battery is old or weak, replace it.
Is the light waterproof?
The light has an IP44 rating, meaning it is splash-proof from any direction. It can be used outdoors but should not be immersed in water.
How do I clean the solar panel?
Use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe the solar panel. Avoid abrasive cleaners or brushes that could scratch the surface.
What are the different lighting modes?
There are three modes: steady on (constant light), slow fade (gradually dim and brighten), and fast flash (rapid blinking). Press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through them.
Can I mount the light on a wall?
Yes, a mounting bracket and screws are included. Drill holes at the appropriate spacing, insert wall plugs, and attach the bracket. Then hang the light on the bracket.
How long does the battery last?
The battery can last up to 8 hours on a full charge during steady mode. Battery life may decrease in colder temperatures or with older batteries.
What should I do if the light flickers?
Flickering can occur if the battery is low or the connection is loose. Try charging the battery fully, or check that the battery is properly seated in the compartment.

Functioning

The integrated solar cell 4 of the article converts solar radiation into electrical energy and stores it in the NiMH rechargeable battery 9. The light switches itself on when it starts to get dark. The integrated LED 2 is an energy-saving illuminant with a very long life. The burn time depends on the solar radiation, the angle of incidence of the light falling onto the solar cell 4, and the temperature (due to the temperature dependence of the capacity of the rechargeable batteries). The ideal situation is a vertical angle. Given the best conditions, a burn time of 6–8 hours can be achieved. The rechargeable battery 9 will only achieve its maximum capacity after several charging and discharging cycles.

- Starting up

- Assembling and setting up the light (Fig. A)

☐ Install the light in accordance with Fig. A.
Place the light with the assembled rods into the ground (lawn, flower bed, etc).

Note: Ensure that the product stands firmly in place. Do not use any force when assembling or setting up the product, e.g. hammer blows. This damages the product.

Note: For the best results, put the light in a place where the solar cell 4 is exposed to direct sunlight for as long as possible. Do not put the light under bushes, trees, canopies etc. as this reduces the incidence of incoming sunlight. Position the lamp in such a way that the solar cell 4 is not covered or in the shade.

Note: Make sure that the solar cell is not near another source of light such as street or garden lighting as the light will otherwise not switch itself on automatically when it starts to get dark.

☐ Switch the AUTO / OFF switch on the bottom of the solar casing 5 into the AUTO or OFF position to switch the lamp on or off.

Note: The LED light bulb will automatically switch between the colours red, blue and green.

Note: Switch the lamp off (OFF position) if the lamp will be in the dark for any length of time (e.g. when transporting it with a rechargeable battery 9 inserted) or the burn time is not satisfactory due to a very short incidence of light.

Open the solar casing into a horizontal position.
☐ Switch the AUTO / OFF switch on the bottom of the solar casing 5 into the AUTO position to recharge the rechargeable

Starting up

battery 9.

● Changing the rechargeable battery

Note: You will need a crosshead screwdriver for this step.

☐ First push the AUTO / OFF switch to the OFF position.
Take the decorative attachment off the rod with the LED light bulb 3.
□ Pull the rod with the LED light bulb off the middle rod 6.
Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the solar casing 5. To do so, unscrew both screws using a crosshead screwdriver
Remove the used rechargeable battery9.
☐ Insert a new rechargeable battery (NiMH, AA, 1.2V/600 mAh) into the battery compartment 10.

Note: Ensure correct polarity. This is indicated in the battery compartment 10.

☐ Close the battery compartment. To do so, screw in both screws using a crosshead screwdriver

□ When you close the case, make sure that the cables are not pinched.

Place the rod with the LED light bulb onto the middle rod 6 again.

Place the decorative attachment back onto the LED light bulb 2.

- Trouble-shooting

● = Problem
○=Cause
O = Solution

The light does not come on when it is dark, even though it was exposed to sunlight all day.

- Artificial sources of light such as street lighting or similar are making the Photosensor believe it is still daylight.

Place the lamp somewhere where it is shielded from artificial sources of light.

● The lamp only comes on for a short time or not at all.

The rechargeable battery 9 is flat or there is not enough daylight to recharge the rechargeable battery 9

○ Replace the rechargeable battery 9 or place the lamp in a sunnier position.

This product has some very sensitive electrical parts. That is why interference may occur if the product is set up near devices that transmit radio signals. They include, among other things, mobile Phones, walkie-talkies, CCB radios, remote controls and microwave ovens. Remove these devices if interference occurs.

Electrostatic discharge may possibly cause disturbances to the product. If such disturbances occur, remove the rechargeable battery 9 for a few seconds and then re-insert it (see "Changing the rechargeable battery").
