DESCRIPTION OF THE APPLIANCE

The scale has been designed for precise measurement of the increase or decrease in body weight, the percentage of body fat, bone tissue and water content in the body, as well as BMI and BMR indices in a given period. If used under normal conditions, the appliance should serve for many years.

It is intended for individuals aged between 6-100 years, with a height between 80-220cm (2'8"-7'2").

The scale ensures correct measurement only at ambient temperatures between 0-40°C (32°F-104°F) and at a relative humidity below 85%.

The body fat measurement function is not intended for professional athletes, body-builders, pregnant women. Pregnant women should use the “weigh measurement” function.

The scale has been designed for domestic use, it has not been officially adjusted and is not suitable for medical or commercial use.

NOTE! The scale may not be used by individuals with cardiac pacemakers or other medical implants with electronic components. In case of doubts regarding your health condition, please consult your doctor.

The appliance calculates the body composition using bioimpedance (BIA) and is based on the measurement of the ratio of body weight to the mass of water contained in the body, taking into account other biological data (body weight, age and sex).

Safe, low-level electric signals pass through the body via the contact plates situated on the glass plate of the appliance. The signal easily flows through the fluids in the muscles and other body tissues, when passing through the fatty tissue it encounters resistance as it contains small amounts of fluids. This resistance is called impedance.

The scale is powered by three 1,5V (AAA) batteries. The battery is located in the battery compartment. The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the appliance. When replacing the battery check if it is properly fitted and observe proper polarity.

After inserting the batteries, you can change the factory settings for the units of measure, ie. kg and cm and lb/st:lb/ft:in, using the keys (6) ▲ or (8) ▼.

The additional function keys of the scale are located on the glass plate.

After setting the appropriate units, if weighing is not performed, the scale will switch off automatically after approx. 8 seconds.

To change the settings for the units of measure you should:

  1. Turn on the scale by pressing gently the glass plate with your finger of foot.
  2. Press the key (6) or (8), until you see the desired unit. The unit of height changes automatically.

RESULTS TABLE

The data given in tables are for guidance only. Before changing your diet and exercise programme, consult your doctor.

THE CONTENT OF FAT IN THE BODY

The fat tissue is an essential component of the body. The fat plays very important and useful roles in the body and is essential for its proper functioning. It lines the most important inner organs, gives a feeling of satiety, provides a protective barrier against heat loss, supplies the body with vitamins, and of course provides energy. It is not, therefore, intended to radically reduce the body fat, but to achieve and maintain the balance between the amount of muscle tissue and fat tissue.

WATER CONTENT IN THE BODY

Water is the most important single component of body weight. Water represents more than half of the total weight and almost two thirds of the weight of the body (muscle) tissue. Water plays many important roles in the human body. All cells in the body - the skin, glands, muscles, brain or any other, may function properly only when the body is supplied with sufficient amount of water. Water also plays an important role in regulating body temperature, particularly through sweating.

The knowledge of the level of fat and water in the body can provide some kind of guidance when adjusting the diet, exercise programme and fluid intake and thus can contribute to the improvement of heath condition. The results of water measurement depend on the proportion of fat and muscles in the body. If the proportion of fat is high or the proportion of muscles is low, the results of water measurement may be low. Please note that the measurements of body weight, fat and water content provide useful information to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

THE AMOUNT OF MUSCLE TISSUE IN THE BODY

This function indicates the amount of muscle tissue in the body. The muscle mass includes skeletal muscles, smooth muscles (such as heart muscle and gastrointestinal tract muscles) and the water contained in these muscles.

Along with the increase in muscle mass, increases the demand for energy which helps to reduce the body fat and weight.

THE AMOUNT OF BONE TISSUE IN THE BODY

The weight of our bones depends on the body composition, physical activity, health condition. We should remember that physical activity strengthens the bones. This, however, is not a big change and in fact we do not feel this on a daily basis or when measuring the body composition. In this kind of measurements it is an additional information about the total weight of our body.

An accurate estimate of bone mass is impossible in case of individuals who suffer from osteoporosis or low bone density due to advanced age, young age, pregnancy, hormonal treatment.

THE DAILY CALORIE INTAKE INDEX (BMR).

The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is an estimate of the amount of energy (measured in calories) consumed by the body during rest to ensure the proper functioning of the body. This continuous operation consumes about 60-70% of calories and includes heart beat, respiration and maintenance of body temperature. The BMR index in influences by a number of factors, including age, weight, height, sex, diet and lifestyle.
