IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS FOR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

The appliance is driven electrically. Place the appliance near a suitable wall power outlet to connect the appliance directly to a protected mains power supply with protective conductor (earth/ground) connected properly. Ensure that the voltage rating of your mains power supply corresponds to the voltage requirements of the appliance (220 - 240 V, 50/60 Hz, AC, rated for at least 8 A). The installation of a residual current operated circuit breaker (r.c.c.b.) with a maximum rated residual operating current of 30 mA in the supplying electrical circuit is strongly recommended. If in doubt, contact your electrician for further information. In various foreign countries, the specifications for power supplies are subject to incompatible norms. It is possible that power supplies in foreign countries do not meet the requirements for safe operation of the appliance. Before operating the appliance abroad, ensure that safe operation is possible. Do not use any desk top multi socket outlet, external timer, remote control systems or extension cord. Always completely unwind the power cord before use. Do not place the appliance on a power cord. The power cord may not touch hot surfaces, moving parts, or sharp edges. Power cords may never be knotted, twisted, pulled, strained or squeezed. Do not let the plug or power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter. Ensure that no one will pull the appliance by the power cord. Always grasp the plug for disconnecting the appliance from the power supply.

- Do not touch the appliance or power plug with wet hands, when the appliance is connected to the power supply. Always wipe off spilled liquids immediately. Do not operate the appliance on wet surfaces or on metal surfaces. Do not place or immerse the motor base in any liquids or let liquids run onto the motor base. Always ensure that the working surface and motor base as well as the exterior of the

mixing jar and blade assembly are completely dry, before assembling the appliance and connecting it to the power supply.

- Before placing the mixing jar onto the motor base, always ensure that the mixing jar is assembled completely leak-free and the exterior is absolutely dry. PROPERTIES OF YOUR DESIGN SMOOTHIE MAKER MIX

& GO

Your new Design Smoothie Maker Mix & Go can solve various tasks in your kitchen (see: 'Suggested Use'). Sharp blades rotating on high speed mix liquids and runny food and cut fruit, vegetables and herbs within a few seconds. Even ice cubes may be crushed via some short pulses.

  • Before mixing and blending solid types of food (e.g. carrots), always add some liquid.
  • The on/off button and safety interlocks ensure easy and safe operation: the motor will only agitate with the mixing jar assembled completely and correctly, and while the on/off button is pressed.
    • In most cases, the best results are achieved using short pulses.
  • For operation, the mixing jar is closed airtight via the blade assembly. Therefore, your food cannot splash. The gasket seal in the base of the blade assembly prevents leaking.
  • After operation, you simply unscrew the blade assembly. You may close the mixing jar via the provided lids for storing your beverage and/or using the mixing jar on the way as a mug (To-Go). There is no need to transfer your food into another container.
  • Two different lids can be used.

The storage lid (closed via a flap) makes pouring and dispensing easy. When using this lid, you should keep the mixing jar upright.

The To-Go lid (closed via a separate small screw lid) ensures a leakfree seal. Tightly closed via this lid, you can transport the mixing jar even in a lying position without leakage.

- Cleaning of the mixing jar and blade assembly is made as easy as possible via the self-cleaning function (see: 'Care and Cleaning').

SUGGESTED USE

You may use your new Design Smoothie Maker Mix & Go for the types of food given in the following table.

Task Type of Food

Making nutrient juices and smoothies Fruits, vegetables, herbs

Blending Light, runny batters, dips, vinaigrette, dressings, smooth sauces

Frozen blending Crushing ice, frozen fruit

BEFORE FIRST USE

WARNING – DO NOT let children play with the appliance, or any part of it, or the packaging! The blades of the blade assembly are very sharp. Only touch the blade assembly at its base.

  1. Unpack the appliance and all accessories carefully. Check that no parts are damaged or missing (see: 'Knowing Your Design Smoothie Maker Mix & Go'). Carefully remove all shipping materials and promotional materials. However, do not remove the model label at the bottom of the motor base.

WARNING – Always unplug the appliance, before cleaning. Do not immerse the motor base or power cord in water or other liquids or spill any liquids on the motor base or power cord. Do not use any abrasive cleaners for cleaning to avoid damage to the surfaces. Do not place the motor base, power cord or blade assembly in an automatic dishwasher.

  1. Before first use and after a longer period of storage, clean the appliance and all its parts. Wash the mixing jar, lids and blade assembly in warm dishwater.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the motor base via a soft, damp cloth. Thereafter, dry the appliance and all parts thoroughly (see: 'Care and Cleaning').

IMPORTANT - Only the mixing jar may be cleaned in an automatic dishwasher.

OPERATION

WARNING – Always ensure that the appliance and all its parts and accessories are out of reach of children younger than 8 years and animals. Do not leave the appliance unattended while it is connected to the power supply. The appliance is using sharp blades in high speed rotation for cutting food. Improper use or misuse may cause severe injuries and damage. Do not touch the blades. Only hold the blade assembly at its base.

Via the appliance, only process food that is fit for consumption.

If there are any liquids running out during operation, immediately unplug the appliance and remove the mixing jar from the motor base (see: 'Solving Problems').

Do not operate the appliance with the mixing jar empty to avoid overheating.

WARNING – Do not fill in hot food to avoid any build-up of high pressure, when the mixing jar is closed. Additionally the mixing jar could crack, when exposed to extreme temperature variations. Ensure that the gasket seal at the inner rim of the blade assembly is clean and correctly in place. Otherwise, the mixing jar may be leaking during operation.

IMPORTANT - For processing larger amounts, divide your food in appropriate portions. At the maximum, the mixing jar may be filled up to the "400 ml" marking (0.4 litres).

Hard types of food: cut your food in cubes of approx. 1-1,5cm in size (e.g. carrots). In a run, process max. 240 g. Always add some liquid (fill up to max. 360 g).

Liquids and soft types of food: max. 360g.

  1. Prepare your food and fill it into the mixing jar. Doing so, observe the maximum amount.
  2. Ensure that the gasket seal of the blade assembly is in place and clean. Remove any splashes of food from the upper rim and exterior of the mixing jar.
  3. Then turn the blade assembly onto the mixing jar, ensuring that the threads are not tilted. Turn the blade assembly handtight for getting a good seal. Turn the mixing jar upside down and ensure that the mixing jar is completely leak-free.
  4. Place the motor base on a suitable surface near a suitable wall power outlet (see: 'Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances').
  5. Place the mixing jar onto the motor base, aligning the white arrows on the mixing base and blade assembly with each other. Slightly press the mixing jar down, while turning it clockwise for locking it securely to the motor base.
  6. Insert the power plug into an appropriate wall power outlet.

CAUTION – To ensure that the appliance will not fall or move about on the working space, keep a hand on the mixing jar, while the motor is agitating. To avoid overheating: with runny ingredients do not operate the motor continuously for more than 1 minute. Hard ingredients may not be processed continuously for more than 30 seconds. Allow the motor to rest for at least 3 minutes before continuing. If the blades get stuck or agitate noticeably slow, stop operation immediately (release the on/off button) and add some liquid, and/or reduce the amount of ingredients in the mixing jar.

IMPORTANT - Keep in mind that the appliance will process your food within seconds. In most cases, processing more than a few seconds will not be necessary. In most cases, you will get best results by operating the motor in short pulses.

  1. Grasp the mixing jar and hold the on/off button pressed for letting the motor agitate. The motor stops automatically, when you release the on/off button.
  2. When your food reaches the desired consistency: Unplug the appliance and turn the mixing jar counter-clockwise for unlocking the mixing jar. Then remove the mixing jar. Turn the blade assembly counter-clockwise for opening the mixing jar.
  3. Immediately after processing, rinse the blade assembly and, if desired, close the mixing jar with the appropriate lid (see: 'Properties of Your Design Smoothie Maker Mix & Go').
  4. After each use, clean all parts, that have come in contact with food (see: 'Care and Cleaning').

SOLVING PROBLEMS

If any problems occur during operation, you will find solutions in this section.

Problem Reason TheSolution
The motor does not start and the blades do not rotate. The safety interlock is active, because the blade assembly or the mixing jar are not installed correctly. For operation, the blade assembly must be screwed correctly onto the mixing jar and the mixing jar must be locked correctly onto the motor base (see: 'Operation').
The blade assembly is blocked.Remove the mixing jar from the motor base and take out any obstacles. Use short pulses (see: 'Operation').If the problem persists: attempt to start the motor with the mixing jar filled with some water. If the problem still persists: refer to the following entries.
The thermal safety switch is active.Unplug the appliance and remove the mixing jar. Leave the appliance cool down for approx. 30 minutes. Thereafter, try again.
There is a severe problem.Unplug the appliance and get in contact with your vendor.
The mixing jar is leaking. The blade assembly or lid is not installed correctly.Ensure to hold the blade assembly and lids correctly, while turning them onto the mixing jar. The threads may not be misaligned (tilted).
The gasket seal is not pro-perly in place, damaged, or food is sticking to the sealing surfaces.Ensure that the gasket seal at the inner rim of the blade base is clean and inserted properly.
The edges of the mixing jar are polluted or chipped.Clean the upper rim and thread of the mixing jar. DO NOT use the mixing jar again, when the glass is chipped or bro-cken in any way. Get in contact with your vendor.
When removing the mixing jar, the blade assembly sticks to the motor base AND/OR liquid runs out onto the motor base and/or accumulates under the appliance. The blade assembly has not been turned on as tightly as required AND/ OR there are residues of sticky food on the coupling of the motor base AND/OR the gasket seal of the blade assembly is damaged or polluted.Immediately unplug the appliance. Grasp the mixing jar and motor base and turn the complete appliance upside down. Then, turn off the mixing jar. If the blade assembly stays within the coupling of the motor base, protect your hands with working gloves or a tough cloth folded several times, for removing the blade assembly. Clean the coupling of the motor base, exterior of the blade assembly, the gasket seal, and the upper rim of the mixing jar (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’). When assembling the mixing jar, ensure that you turn on the blade assembly correctly for getting a really leakfree seal. No liquid may run out, when turning the mixing jar upside down.
Your food has been too hot, when being filled in AND/OR you filled in any alcoholic food.Do not fill any hot food into the mixing jar! Your food may be no more than lukewarm. Do not attempt to process alcoholic food or beverages! During processing, the alcohol may evaporate, thus building-up pressure within the mixing jar.

CARE AND CLEANING

WARNING – Always ensure that the appliance and all its parts are out of reach of children younger than 8 years and animals. Always unplug the appliance, before moving or cleaning the appliance. Do not hold your hands or any foreign objects into the coupling on the motor base with the appliance still connected to the power supply. Do not immerse or place the motor base or the power cord in water or any other liquid. Do not spill or drip any liquids on or in these parts to avoid risk of fire and electric shock. DO NOT place the motor base or power cord in an automatic dishwasher. Handle the blade assembly with care to avoid injuries, because the blades are very sharp. Do not attempt to disassemble the blade assembly.

Do not use scouring pads, abrasive or corrosive cleaning agents (e.g. bleach, sol-

ving agents) for cleaning the appliance or any parts of it, to avoid damage to the surfaces and gasket seals. Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects for cleaning. Only the mixing jar may be cleaned in an automatic dishwasher.

In general, for keeping the appliance hygienically clean and for preventing the build-up of harmful germs, you should avoid to leave any food go bad or dry on the mixing jar, blade assembly, or lids.

USING THE SELF-CLEANING FEATURE

WARNING – Do not fill the mixing jar over the "400ml" filling line. Do not fill in hot liquids. At the maximum the dishwater for cleaning may be lukewarm (approx. 30°C).

  1. Immediately after operation, rinse the blade assembly with clear water for removing coarse residues of food.
  2. Fill the mixing jar with approx. 200ml lukewarm dishwater and turn on the blade assembly. Wipe dry the exterior of the mixing jar and blade assembly.
  3. Operate the appliance with some short pulses (see: 'Operation').
  4. When the mixing jar is clean, remove the mixing jar from the motor base and unplug the appliance. Rinse the mixing jar and blade assembly with clear tap water and wipe dry.

NOTE

If this method for cleaning is not successful, wash the mixing jar and blade assembly in warm dishwater.

WASHING THE LIDS, MIXING JAR, AND BLADE ASSEMBLY

⚠️ CAUTION – Always ensure that the gasket seals in the base of the blade assembly and in the lids will not be damage or lost, as they enable an airtight fit with the mixing jar.

NOTE

If there are stubborn residues sticking to the parts, you should soak the mixing jar, lids, and blade assembly in warm dishwater for 5-10 minutes, before cleaning.

Wash the lids, mixing jar, and blade assembly in warm dishwater. The mixing jar may be cleaned in an automatic dishwasher.

CLEANING THE MOTOR BASE

CAUTION – Do not poke in the coupling of the motor base with any type of hard objects to avoid damage. Always ensure to unplug the motor base before cleaning.

  1. Wipe the power cord, exterior of the motor base and the coupling with a slightly damp, not dripping cloth. Ensure that there are no residues of food sticking to the surfaces of the coupling.
  2. Then wipe dry. Thereafter, leave the motor base dry naturally for approx. 1 hour.

IMPORTANT - When liquids have run onto the motor base, leave the motor base dry naturally for at least 1 day, before using the appliance again.

STORAGE

⚠ WARNING – When the appliance is not in use, always unplug the appliance. Do not leave the appliance unattended, while it is connected to the power supply or in reach of children younger than 8 years and animals. Always ensure that no-one will touch the blades unintentionally.

CAUTION – Always clean the appliance and all its parts before storing to avoid that harmful germs build-up on the surfaces (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). Do not hold the appliance by the power cord or mixing jar for moving the appliance. Instead, grasp the motor base at both sides.

Ensure to store the appliance and its parts where it is safe from inadmissible strain (mechanical or electric shock, frost, heat, moisture, direct sunlight). Do not place any hard or heavy objects on or in the appliance or any part of it.

Lay the power cord loosely around the motor base. Power cords may never be knotted, twisted, pulled, strained, or squeezed. Do not use any parts or accessories of the appliance for any other appliance or any other purpose than described in this booklet.

IMPORTANT - If the appliance will not be used for a longer period of time, you should avoid closing the mixing jar via the blade assembly, because after several days, in airtight containers an unpleasant odour may build-up. In this case, it is good advice to wrap the blade assembly in a clean tight cloth. This way, no one can touch the blades accidentally.
