Frequently Asked Questions - VVX 1660 DELONGHI

Which water should I use in my De'Longhi VVX 1660 steam station?
Use tap water. If the water is very hard (hardness above 27°F), mix 50% demineralized water with 50% tap water. Never use demineralized water alone, nor mineral water, scented essences, or chemical products.
Why does water come out of the soleplate holes?
Check that the iron's thermostat adjustment button is in the steam zone (see fig. 7 of the manual). If the iron hasn't been used for a while, press the steam button several times away from the ironing board to expel condensation water.
What to do if steam escapes from the bottom of the appliance?
This may indicate activation of the maximum pressure safety system. Immediately stop the appliance and contact an Authorized Technical Assistance Center.
Why are there brown streaks on the soleplate?
This is usually caused by the use of anti-scale products or additives in the tank. Never pour such products. Clean the soleplate with a damp cloth.
Why does smoke come out during first use?
This is normal: the glues and lubricants used for assembly evaporate during first heating. Ventilate the room; the phenomenon will disappear after a few uses.
How to rinse the boiler?
Perform rinsing every 10 uses following the procedure on page 6 of the user manual. This removes limescale deposits and extends the life of the appliance.
What does the 'water shortage' indicator mean?
The indicator shows that the water tank is empty. Fill it immediately to avoid damaging the pump. A louder pump noise is normal during water shortage.
Can I use an adapter or extension cord?
It is not recommended to use adapters, multiple sockets, or extension cords. Plug directly into a grounded outlet of at least 10 A.
How to lock the iron in transport position?
Place the tip of the soleplate in the designated housing (mark B) and slide the J slider to the lock position. Never use the locked iron as a carrying handle.
What to do if the appliance does not turn on?
Check that the appliance is plugged in and that the power buttons (iron and boiler) are pressed. If the problem persists, contact an authorized service.

*Important:

  • When the water in the tank has run out, the pump becomes noisier. This is part of normal operation and is not a cause for concern. However, you are recommended to top up the water in the tank immediately.
  • When the "no water" light comes on, you should top up the water in the tank as rapidly as possible. This will enable you to continue ironing after a short interruption.
  • When the "no water" light comes on, you should not continue steam ironing with the pump vibrating. If this practice is continued, in the long run it could irreparably damage internal components.

Using the appliance for the first time

  • The first time you use the appliance, the steam generator is empty. When filling the steam generator for the first time, it will take longer to heat up as the air must be eliminated from the steam generator and replaced by the water. During filling/heating it is normal for the pump to make a noise.
  • The appliance will also run out of water much more quickly than with subsequent fills.
  • When used for the first time, the appliance may give off smoke and an odour for several minutes. This is caused by heating and subsequent drying of the sealers used in assembling the steam generator and iron. You are recommended to ventilate the room.
Each time the iron is used (including for the first time) or if you have not used steam for several minutes, press the steam delivery button a number of times away from the
