8.2 Getting started

When powering the barbecue on for the first time, have the barbecue glow for 30 minutes, before using it to prepare food.

Minor smoke development can occur when the device is heated first. For this reason, the device should be heated for 10 to 15 minutes prior to preparing grilled food for the first time.
- Clean the stainless steel grate (1) using warm water and detergent. This removes dust and any packaging residue.
-
Place the device on an even, non-slip and dry surface.
-
Loosen both latches (7) and remove the stainless steel grate (1).
-
Remove the charcoal container (4) and its cover (3) and fill the charcoal container (4) with approx. 0.2 kg charcoal up to the upper edge of the container.

For optimum cooking results you should use barbecue charcoal and not charcoal briquettes.

Warning
Do not use any other fuel than charcoal.
-
Apply a 10 mm thick ring of fire gel around the centre of the fire gel tray (5). The fire gel should be within the circle stamped on the fire gel tray (5). Otherwise, the flame will be smothered. Should the fire gel tray (5) move out of place, insert it again into the centre of the grease collection tray/reflector (6).
-
Turn the control dial (9) to the MAX position (clockwise until it stops) to power on the fan.

You must power on the fan prior to igniting the flame. Otherwise, the flame will be smothered.
- Hold a burning match to the fire gel, until it burns.

- Turn the control dial (9) to the MAX position (clockwise until it stops) to power on the fan.

- Insert the charcoal container (4) again with its cover (3).

Risk of burns!
Make sure not to burn yourself, when inserting the charcoal container (4)!
- Place down the stainless steel grate (1) again. Turn the grate such that the two brackets (2) are aligned with the latches (7). Lock the stainless steel grate (1).

- Place the grilled food onto the stainless steel grate (1), as soon as the charcoal is covered with a layer of ash.
- If undesired flame formation occurs during charcoal glowing, reduce the air supply using the control dial (9). To do this, turn it in a counter-clockwise direction.
Next, you can prepare grilled dishes using your charcoal barbecue. With a little practice, you can regulate the fan speed and thus the heat using the control dial (9). This way, you can either grill your dishes crispier or cook them gently.

- You can prepare meat, fish, sausages, chicken and vegetables in a low-fat and health-conscious way.
- Do not puncture meat to prevent moisture loss. Otherwise, it can become dry.
-
Season the grilled food and turn it from time to time. We recommend using wooden barbecue tongs. Brush fish additionally with butter.
-
Once you are done grilling, switch the charcoal barbecue off. Turn the control dial (9) counterclockwise to the OFF position, until it engages.
-
Remove the prepared dishes from the stainless steel grate (1).

Risk of burns!
After the fan is switched off, the coal can still be glowing for some time and the stainless steel grate (1) can be very hot. Be careful not to burn yourself.
9. Maintenance/cleaning
In order to avoid burning food residues, clean the charcoal barbecue after every use.

Risk of burns!
Wait until the charcoal barbecue is completely cool before cleaning it. Otherwise you could get burnt.
