The rice cooker is for cooking rice and rice dishes only. With the included steam insert the device can be used for steaming vegetables.
Assembling and Using
- Place the rice cooker (5) on a solid, level surface.
- Measure the desired rice amount and fill in the inner pot. The measuring cup (3) should be filled to the brim only. One filled measuring cup dry rice is equal to approx. 1 portion of cooked rice. The max. capacity of the rice cooker is 10 measuring cups dry rice. This is equal to approx. 10 portions of cooked rice.
- Fill the inner pot (2) with water or stock and, if desired add salt. Insert the inner pot into the rice cooker. Place the lid on the rice cooker. Always use the rice cooker with closed lid!
- Connect the coupler plug with the rice cooker and the wall socket.
- Press down the switch (8). The power control light "COOK" lights up. Now cooking process has started.
- As soon as cooking process has finished, the rice cooker will automatically turn to warm keeping mode. The power control light "WARM" will light up.
- Stir the cooked rice immediately after cooking in order to remove sticking rice from the wall of the inner pot. By doing this, the rice will remain loose and does not stick on the wall.
Hints: Allow the cooked rice to rest for approx. 10 minutes before serving. The steam inside the pot will finish cooking process. Do to leave the cooked rice for longer than 10 hours in the warm keeping mode. Consume the rice within this period.
Only touch the rice cooker resp. the inner pot with over gloves or similar! Pull the power plug if you do not use the rice cooker furthermore, when cleaning, when re-positioning the device or if failures occur.
Operating
Hints for preparation of Rice in the Rice Cooker:
- Rice does not need to be soaked when preparing in the rice cooker.
- It is controversial whether rice has to be soaked in water or not before preparing in the rice cooker. Those in favour argue that by washing the rice, the starch content will be washed out. Those against think that valuable soluble vitamins and minerals will get lost during washing.
- First fill the rice in the inner pot and then add water/stock to the pot.
■ Stir the rice and the water thoroughly together and smooth the rice.
■ Make sure there is no rice sticking on the wall of the inner pot or the rim.
- When using soft or unpeeled rice, always use the indicated liquid amount for cooking. When using long-grain rice or hard rice, use a little bit more water than indicated.
■ For preparing Sushi rice preferably use husked resp. polished rice.
- When preparing rice with side dishes, make sure the supplements do not exceed 50% of the dry weight of the rice. Using too much supplements will lead to bad results. For this purpose preferably use white rice. Cut the side dishes in small pieces. The vegetable pieces should not be larger than 4 cm (thickness/length). Preferably place the vegetables on the top of the rice. Do not stir the vegetables.
- When cooking discolouring food (carrots), the inner pot might become stained. However, this will not impair cooking process.
- If you want to season the rice and side dishes, first dissolve the spices in water or stock and pour the water afterwards in the inner pot. Otherwise the rice might burn resp. will not be cooked evenly.
- If the rice is still “hard” after cooling process, leave the rice for some while in the rice cooker.
Operating
Switching off the Warm Keeping Function
If you do not want to use the warm keeping function after cooking process, pull the plug from mains supply.
- For keeping warm remaining rice, pile up the rice to a small pyramid in the centre of the inner pot.
-
Do not use the warm keeping mode for:
-
Keeping warm rice with side dishes (vegetables, spices)
- For heating up/keeping warm ready cooked food such as croquettes, soups etc.
- For heating up cold rice
- For keeping warm rice over a long period of time (for more than 10 hours). The rice will become dry and yellow.
Troubleshooting
| Cause | Reason/Solution |
| Power Control Lights do not turn on | Check if the power plug if inserted.Check if there are foreign objects between the inner pot and the base unit. Ensure a clean heating element. |
| Water escape during cooking process | Resp. too much water is used.Resp. unsuitable rice is used (e. g. boil-in-the-bag rice) |
| The rice is dry and still hard after cooking | Resp. too less water is used; After cooking process, add 1/4 cup of hot water and leave the rice for approx. 15 minutes in the warm keeping mode to rest. Then stir the rice and serve.Stir the rice as soon as cooking process is finished.Otherwise the rice might form lumps and the surface of the rice will be hard. |
| The cooked rice is too watery | Resp. too much water is used.Resp. the cooking process is stopped in between. This will lead to unevenly cooked rice. |
