A. Pilot light
B. Thermostat knob
C. Super control light
D. Normal/Super push button/ Reset sound signal alarm
E. Warning light

Operation

Insert the plug into the wall socket. Turn the thermostat knob (B), clockwise, beyond the «1» position. The pilot light (A) will light up and a sound is on only for 2 sec., indicating that the appliance is powered. The warning light (E) will blink and the sound signal alarm will get on, indicating that the temperature inside the appliance is too high.

Push the button (D), the sound signal alarm will get off and pushing the button a second time the super control light (C) light up. The freezer will start to operate.

To stop operation, simply turn the thermostat knob to position «O» and a sound is on only for 2 sec.

Temperature regulation

The temperature is automatically regulated and can be increased to achieve a higher temperature (warmer) by rotating the thermostat knob toward lower settings or reduced (colder) rotating the knob towards higher settings.

However, the exact setting should be chosen keeping in mind that the temperature inside the refrigerator depends on:

• room temperature;
• how often the door is opened;
• the quantity of food stored;
- location of appliance.
- The temperature inside the appliance is automatically adjusted.
- Setting „1“ = hightest temperature, warmest setting
- Setting „6“ = lowest temperature, coldest setting.
- Setting „O“ = Off

A medium setting is generally the most suitable.

Quick-freezing

For quick-freezing, push the button (D). The super control light (C) will then light up.

If the quick-freezing function is not ended manually, the appliance switch off the quick-freezing function after 52 hours. The yellow light goes out.

The quick-freezing function can be ended manually at any time by pressing the button (D) again. The yellow light goes out.

Warning light (E)

The temperature alarm light blinks automatically whenever the temperature within the freezer rises above a certain value which might endanger satisfactory long-term conservation.

It is perfectly normal for the temperature alarm light to remain flashed for a short time after the freezer is initially turned on. It will remain flashed until the optimum temperature for the conservation of frozen food is attained.

Sound signal alarm (D)

This appliance incorporates an alarm which gives off a sound signal when the temperature inside the freezer has risen to a point where the safe storage of frozen food is no longer ensured.

This sound can be turned off pushing the button (D).

Freezing Calendar

The symbols on the upper drawer show different types of frozen goods.

The numbers indicate storage times in months for the appropriate types of frozen goods. Whether the upper or lower value of the indicated storage time is valid depends on the quality of the foods and pretreating before freezing.

Interior Accessories

Ice-cube production

This appliance is equipped with one or more trays for the production of ice-cubes.

Fill these trays with water, then put them in the freezer.

Juno Electrolux JGI4429 - Ice-cube production - 1

Do not use metallic instruments to remove the trays from the freezer.

Cold accumulator

The freezer contains one cold accumulator which can be found in the top compartment. The cold accumulator increases storage times in the event of a power cut or breakdown. It must be placed on top of the food, in the top compartment.

Removal of this unit will increase the capacity of the fast freezing compartment but will reduce storage times in the event of a power cut or breakdown.

Drawers

The freezer has stops to prevent the drawers from falling out when fully extended.

To remove the drawers, proceed as follows: pull the drawer out until it comes to a stop, then tilt it upwards (see figure).

Hints

Juno Electrolux JGI4429 - Hints - 1

Saving Energy

- Pay careful attention to where the cabinet is placed. See the section "Installation". When installed correctly the cabinet will consume less energy.

  • Try to avoid keeping the doors open for long periods or opening the doors too frequently as warm air will enter the cabinet and cause the compressor to switch on unnecessarily often.
  • Do not place warm foods inside the appliance. Allow warm foods to cool first.
  • Do not set temperature any colder than necessary.
  • Put frozen food in the fridge to defrost. The cold in the frozen food will then be used to cool the fridge.
  • Keep the heat emitting condenser, the metall grille on the rear wall of your appliance, always clean.

Freezing of fresh foods and storage of frozen food

  • To quick-freeze foods when the appliance has not been in use, switch on the freezer and let it run on the quick-freeze setting for at least three hours before putting the food to be frozen in the compartment.
If instead the appliance is already in operation, it should run on the quick-freeze setting for at least 24 hours before the foods are put in the freezer.
  • Once the foods have been placed in the freezer, the freezing operation can be considered to be complete 24 hours later. Once freezing is complete, the freezer should be reset for normal storage use.
  • When you first start the freezer or if the freezer has been out of use for some time, we advise you to run your appliance for at least two hours in the «fast freeze» mode before storing frozen food.
  • Food to be frozen has to be placed in the appliance's two top compartments; if freezing only a small amount of food, use the top compartment.
  • In the top compartment, products must only be stacked up to the mark on the cabinet wall so as to ensure that air circulation is not obstructed.
  • The maximum amount of food which is freezable in 24 hours is indicated on the rating plate. This is to be found on the bottom left-hand side.
  • Prepare food in small portions to enable it to be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity required.
  • Not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than absolutely necessary.
  • Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and make sure that the packages are airtight.
  • Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperature of the latter.

  • Do not touch frozen food with wet hands. Your hands could stick to the food and cause skin abrasions.

  • It is advisable to show the freezing-in date on each individual pack to enable you to keep tab of the storage time.
  • Be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the foodstore to the freezer in the shortest possible time.
  • Do not put carbonated liquids (fizzy drinks, etc.) in the freezer as they may burst.
  • A temperature increase of the frozen food shortens its safe storage period.
  • Once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidly and cannot be refrozen.

Defrosting

  • Remove the frost with a plastic scraper.
  • Whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 5 mm complete defrosting should be carried out. Proceed as follows:
  • Remove any stored food, wrap it in several layers of newspaper and put it in a cool place.
  • Pull out the plug from the wall socket or turn the thermostat knob to the «O» setting.
  • Leave the door open and introduce the plastic scraper in the appropriate seating at the base of the cabinet as shown in the figure and place a basin underneath to collect the defrost water (see fig.).

Juno Electrolux JGI4429 - Defrosting - 1

natural_image Technical line drawing of a mechanical component with an arrow indicating direction, no text or symbols present
  • When defrosting is completed dry the interior thoroughly. Keep the scraper for future use.
  • Turn the thermostat control to a medium setting and, after letting the appliance run for at least two hours in the «fast freeze» mode, replace the previously removed food into the compartments.

Juno Electrolux JGI4429 - Defrosting - 2

Never use metal objects for defrosting your appliance as it may get damaged.

Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial means to speed up the thawing process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

Cleaning

Juno Electrolux JGI4429 - Cleaning - 1

Never use metal objects for cleaning your appliance as it may get damaged.

NEVER use detergents, abrasive powders, highly perfumed cleaning products or wax polishes to clean the interior as these will damage the surface and leave a strong odour.

Clean the inside with warm water and bicarbonate of soda. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

To guarantee a safe operation of the fridge, once a year remove the ventilation grille at the base and clean the air channels with a vacuum cleaner.
