Safety
Intended use
With the toaster it is possible to toast or warm normal household quantities of sliced bread and to crisp up bread rolls.
The bread roll attachment is only intended for the crisp-ing up of bread rolls. Do not place any other foods on this attachment as this may lead to burn injuries or damage the appliance.
The appliance is designed for use in private households and is not designed for commercial use or multiple use (e.g. use by several parties in a block of flats).
Use the appliance only as described in this user manual. Any other use is deemed improper and may result in damage to property or even personal injury. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage caused by improper use.

WARNING
This symbol indicates a hazard with a medium level of risk which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION
This symbol indicates a hazard with a low level of risk which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.

NOTICE
This symbol warns against possible damage to property.

This symbol refers to useful additional information.
Safety notices
In this chapter you will find general safety notices which you must always observe for your own protection and that of third parties. Please also observe the warning notices in the individual chapters.

WARNING
Risks in handling household electrical appliances
Risk of electric shock! Touching live parts may result in severe injury or death.
■ Only connect the appliance if the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage displayed on the label.
■ The appliance must therefore be connected to an easily accessible socket so that it can be quickly disconnected from the power supply in the event of fault.
■ Never use a damaged appliance. In the event that you identify any damages that occurred during transit, please immediately notify our service team (see „Customer service“ on page GB-17).
■ If the mains cord of the appliance is damaged, the manufacturer, its customer service team or a person with similar qualifications must replace it.
■ Only use the appliance indoors and never operate it in damp rooms or expose it to rain.
■ Never repair a defective or suspected defective appliance yourself. You can put your own and future users’ lives in danger. Only authorised specialists are allowed to carry out this repair work.
■ Only connect the appliance to a properly installed protective contact plug socket and do not operate it using an external timer switch or a separate remote control system.
■ Always connect the appliance to an easily accessible socket, so that you can quickly unplug the mains plug in an emergency.
■ Do not simultaneously connect any other electrical appliances with a high connected load to the same circuit.
■ Do not use extension cords or sockets that do not have sufficient capacitance.
■ Do not allow the power cord to hang or trail in such a way that it may be reached or damaged by either children or pets.
■ Do not use the appliance if the housing or the power cord is damaged, if the appliance has been dropped or if there is other visible damage.
■ Do not put any objects in or through the housing openings and ensure that children cannot insert any objects in them.
■ Never use a metal object to manipulate any part of the toasting slot.
■ Never open the housing.
■ The appliance may only be repaired by an authorised specialist company.
■ Do not immerse the appliance itself, the power cord or the mains plug in water. Do not allow any liquid to enter into the housing.
■ Never store the appliance in such a way that it can fall into a bathtub or sink.
■ Never touch an electrical appliance if it has fall-
en into water. In such an event immediately unplug the power plug from the socket.
■ Never touch the mains plug with wet hands.
- Keep the appliance, the mains plug and the power cord away from hot surfaces and open flames.
■ Check the appliance and the power supply cable regularly for damage.
■ Always pull the mains plug out of the socket,
- when you are not using the appliance,
– before you clean the appliance, - if a malfunction occurs,
- if there is a storm with thunder and lightning.
Risk of short circuit!
Any water that has seeped into the appliance may cause a short circuit or electrocution. It is then possible that you could injure yourself if you come into contact with the appliance.
■ Do not use a steam cleaner or high-pressure cleaner to clean the appliance.
Risk of burns!
The appliance will become hot during operation. If you touch any of the hot parts you may burn yourself!
■ Do not touch any of the metal parts and do not come into contact with the toasting slot.
■ Only move the appliance after it has been allowed to cool.
■ Do not leave the appliance unattended and keep out of the reach of children if it is still connected to the power or still hot following usage.
■ Make sure that there is no risk of other persons, especially children, or pets burning themselves on the appliance.
■ Only operate the appliance when is located on an even, steady and heat-resistant surface.
■ Allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning or storing it.
Danger to children and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities (for example, people with disabilities to some extent, older persons with impaired physical and mental abilities) or who lack experience and knowledge (for example older children).
■ This appliance can be used by children aged eight years and above and by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental abilities, or who lack experience and knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance and understand the dangers associated with its use.
■ Children must not be allowed to play with the appliance.
■ Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children.
■ While turned on or being left to cool, the toaster and its power cable must be keep out of the reach of children younger than 8 years of age.
■ Children can become entangled when playing in
the packaging fi Im and suffocate. Ensure that the packaging fi Im remains out of the reach of children.
Health hazard!
Acrylamides e.g. in blackened or burnt pieces of bread may cause cancer.
■ Toast bread until it is pale or golden brown rather than letting it become too dark. Remove burnt parts of the toast.
■ Do not cover the appliance, e.g. with tea towels etc.
- Keep fl ammable liquids and vapours away from the appliance.
■ Regularly empty the crumb collection tray to reduce the risk of a fire.
■ Never place bread rolls directly onto the toasting slots.
■ Do not toast bread and crisp up bread rolls at the same time.

CAUTION
Fire hazard!
Bread can catch fire. Flammable objects placed immediately next to the appliance may ignite easily!
■ Do not operate the appliance near or beneath curtains or other fl ammable materials.
■ Never leave the appliance unattended while in use.
■ Do not place any fl ammable or easily ignited objects on top of the appliance while in use.
■ Do not place any aluminium foil over the bread roll attachment!

NOTICE
Improper handling of the appliance may result in damage.
■ Never expose the appliance to high temperatures (heating etc.) or weather conditions (rain etc.).
■ Never place or operate the appliance on or near hot surfaces (e.g. hotplates etc.) or near open gas flames.
■ Do not operate the appliance without the crumb collection tray and always use in an upright position.
■ Do not manipulate the toasting slot with any sort of object.
■ If a slice of bread becomes trapped in the toasting slot, unplug the mains plug, allow the appliance to cool and then remove the trapped slice of bread. Do not use knives or other sharp metal objects to do this.
■ Do not operate the appliance beneath kitchen cupboards etc. These may be damaged by the heat emitted from the appliance.
■ Do not use any solvent, irritant or abrasive cleaning products (e.g. oven or grill spray) or cleaning utensils (e.g. scouring pads etc.) to clean the appliance. These can scratch the surface of the appliance.
■ Dry all parts thoroughly after cleaning.
Some furniture surfaces may contain chemical components which corrode the rubber feet of the appliance. This may leave a residue on the surface of the furniture.
■ If necessary, place a heat-resistant mat underneath the appliance.
Before first use
Set-up location
- The appliance location must be stable, even and heat-resistant.
- The appliance must be out of the reach of young children.
- The appliance may not be located on or directly next to a stove top or any other heat source.
- The appliance may not be operated directly beneath a wall cupboard as heat is emitted from below.
Cable tidy

First use
- Remove all packaging parts and delivery packaging.
- Set up the toaster as previously described and connect the mains plug to an easily accessible, properly installed socket.
- Slide the adjuster (4) to toasting power setting 7 and push down the lever (9).
The toaster will start to heat up, the operating indicator light of the stop button ✗(7) will illuminate.
- Do this at least 5 times with the toaster placed near an open window.
Allow the toaster to cool between each instance of turning it off and on.
Odour or smoke may be produced during initial use. This is normal and is not an error. Make sure there is adequate ventilation.
- Once toast is complete the lever (9) will spring back to its original position and the operating indicator light × 7 will go out.
Toasting bread / crisping up bread rolls
General instructions
– Differences between types of bread as well as moisture and thickness of each slice affect how the bread is toasted. Toast brown bread using a higher toasting setting than for white bread. Stored dry bread toasts quicker than fresh bread.
- It is possible to toast slices of bread no thicker than 14 mm. Do not use slices that are too thick or large as these become easily trapped.
- If a fault occurs or to clean the appliance, always first pull the mains plug out of the socket!
- If a slice of bread becomes trapped first unplug the appliance then release the bread using a blunt wooden object (e. g. the handle of a wooden spoon). Do not touch the heating wires in the process.
Toasting

WARNING
Risk of burns!
The appliance becomes hot when in use! The metal parts in particular remain hot even after the appliance has been turned off.
■ Do not touch any of the metal parts and do not come into contact with the toasting slot.
■ Only move the appliance after it has been allowed to cool.
Health hazard!

- Use the adjuster (4) to select the desired toasting power setting.
Pale: Select a lower setting.
Dark: Select a higher setting.
To toast just one slice of bread set the toasting power setting lower than for two slices.
- Push down the lever (9).
The operating indicator light on the stop button ✗7) will illuminate. Once the selected toasting power setting has been reached the toaster will turn off and the slices of bread will be ejected upwards out of the appliance. The operating indicator light on the stop button ✗7) will go out.

Remove the toasted bread.
-
To achieve a consistent level of toasting for several consecutive uses wait approx. 1 to 1 12 minutes between each usage.
Stopping the appliance
- If you would like to stop the toasting process before it is finished push the stop button ×(7).
The toaster will turn off, eject the slices of bread and the operating indicator light on the stop button will go out.
Toasting frozen bread
If using frozen bread you can push the defrost button ✦(5) to extend the selected toasting time.
- Select a normal toasting power setting with the adjuster (4).
- Place the slices of bread into the toasting slots.
- Push down the lever (9). The operating indicator light on the stop button × (7) will illuminate.
- Push the defrost button ✕(5). The indicator light on the defrost button will illuminate.
Warming up toasted bread
With the warming-up button (6) you can reheat bread that has already been toasted. Do not warm up any bread that has been buttered or topped with anything else.
- Select a normal toasting power setting with the adjuster (4).
- Place the slices of bread into the toasting slots.
- Push down the lever (9). The operating indicator light on the stop button × (7) will illuminate.
- Push the warming-up button (6). The indicator light on the warming-up button will illuminate.
Crisping up bread rolls
Use the bread roll attachment (1) supplied to crisp up bread rolls.

- Start the toasting process as previously described.
- Turn the bread rolls once the appliance has turned off and turn the toaster back on.
Cleaning

WARNING
Risk of electrocution and short circuit!
Any water that has seeped into the appliance may cause a short circuit or electrocu- tion.
■ Do not submerge the appliance or the mains plug in water or any other fluid.
■ Unplug the mains plug before cleaning the toaster.
To do so, pull the plug itself and not on the mains cord.
■ Do not place the toaster into a dishwasher.
■ Do not use any high pressure or steam cleaning devices to clean the appliance.
Risk of burns!
The appliance becomes hot when in use!
■ Allow the toaster to cool completely prior to cleaning.

NOTICE
Risk of damage!
Incorrect usage of cleaning products or utensils may scratch or chemically corrode the surface of the appliance.
■ Do not use any solvent, irritant or abrasive cleaning products (e.g. oven or grill spray) or cleaning utensils e.g. scouring pads etc. to clean the appliance.
■ Do not use any abrasive cleaning products (scrubbing or thinning agents) during cleaning.
Cleaning the crumb collection tray
Empty the crumb collection tray regularly.

Pull out the crumb collection tray (8).

Wipe the crumb collection tray with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Cleaning the housing
- Wipe the housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
• To clean the inside of the toaster hold the toaster upside down and shake the crumbs out.
