Frequently Asked Questions - SBL-2804 Clas Ohlson

How do I assemble the cotton candy machine before first use?
The machine comes pre-assembled but must be disassembled and cleaned first. Follow the manual: remove the locking ring, rim, bowl, and extractor head. Clean all removable parts, then reassemble in reverse order, ensuring the bowl locks securely onto the motor unit's metal tabs and the extractor head's groove aligns with the spindle pin.
What type of sugar should I use?
Use regular granulated sugar. Do not use icing sugar or sugar substitutes. A level measuring scoop (provided) holds about 1 tablespoon – do not exceed this amount to avoid spilling onto the heating elements.
How do I make cotton candy?
Place the machine on a level surface, plug in, and switch on to warm up for 5 minutes. Then switch off, wait for the extractor head to stop, add sugar into the centre, switch on again. Hold a stick upright in the bowl, slowly rotate it between your fingers while moving it in a one-way circular motion above the bowl's rim. Once floss gathers, angle the stick into the bowl to build more floss.
How long can I use the machine continuously?
Do not use for more than 30 minutes at a time. After 30 minutes, switch off and allow the machine to cool for at least 10 minutes before reusing. Overheating may pose a fire hazard.
Can I wash the motor unit in water?
No. The motor unit must never be immersed in water. Clean it by wiping with a soft, damp cloth. All other removable parts (bowl, locking ring, rim) are dishwasher safe. The extractor head should be hand washed in warm soapy water.
What happens if sugar spills onto the heating elements?
Sugar residue on the heating elements can cause a fire. Always switch off and let the machine cool before cleaning. Scrape off any residue with a wooden or plastic instrument, never metal. Ensure the heating elements are clean before each use.
Why does my cotton candy machine stop spinning during use?
The machine may have an internal thermal cut-off due to overheating. Let it cool for at least 10 minutes and then restart. If it persists, check that the bowl is properly locked and the extractor head is correctly seated. Also ensure you are not exceeding 30 minutes of continuous use.
Can children use this machine?
Children aged 8 years and over may use the machine only if supervised and instructed on safe use. Cleaning and maintenance by children aged 8+ must be under adult supervision. Keep the machine and its cord out of reach of children under 8.
How do I store the cotton candy machine?
After cleaning and drying all parts, reassemble the machine loosely or store parts separately. Keep in a dry place away from heat sources. Coil the cord loosely; do not wrap it around the machine.
Is the machine suitable for commercial use?
No, this machine is intended for household and similar applications such as staff kitchens, farm houses, hotel/motel rooms, and B&Bs. It is not designed for continuous commercial use.

Operating instructions

The candy floss machine comes completely assembled. Before using it for the first time it must be disassembled and cleaned.

Disassembly

  1. Remove the locking ring (3) and rim (4) by carefully removing the locking ring.
  2. Remove the bowl (2) by rotating it until the plastic tabs disengage from the motor unit's metal locking tabs. Then remove the bowl by carefully pulling it upwards.
  3. Remove the extractor head (5) by pulling it straight upwards.
  4. Follow the instructions under Care and maintenance.

After cleaning, assemble the parts in reverse order to the directions described above. Be especially careful that the bowl is securely locked into position and that the bowl's plastic tabs lock onto the motor unit's metal locking tabs. Make sure that the groove in the extractor head is precisely aligned with the pin on the spindle of the motor unit when attaching it.

Use

  1. Place the candy floss machine on a level surface and plug it into a power point.

  2. Switch the machine ON and let it warm up for 5 minutes.

  3. Place the power switch in the OFF position, and let the extractor head come to a complete stop.

  1. Use the included measuring scoop to measure a level scoopful of sugar and pour it into the centre of the extractor head.

Note: Never add more sugar than the amount the measure holds = max 1 tablespoon.

  1. Set the switch to the ON position. The extractor head will begin spinning.

  2. The candy floss machine will now start producing candy floss. Insert a stick into the bowl in a completely upright position. Then slowly rotate the stick between your fingers while simultaneously moving it in a one-way circular direction slightly above the bowl's rim.

natural_image Diagram of a mechanical component with concentric rings and a central shaft (no text or symbols)
  1. Once you have gathered a little floss, continue with the same procedure as described above, only this time begin angling the stick into the bowl to make it easier for the floss to build onto it.

  2. When finished, set the power switch to the OFF position and unplug the machine.

Warning:

  • The product is subject to overheating if used more than 30 min at a time. After this period the product must be allowed to cool for at least 10 min before reusing. Overheating the machine may pose a fire hazard.
  • Switch off the machine and let the extractor head come to a complete stop before refilling. This is important so as to avoid spilling sugar onto the heating elements under the extractor head. Any residue left on the heating elements may pose a fire risk.

Care and maintenance

All removable plastic parts are dishwasher safe. Clean the motor unit by wiping it with a soft damp cloth. The extractor head can be hand washed in warm soapy water. Always unplug the machine and let it cool down completely before disassembling it for cleaning.

Note: Never immerse the motor unit in water.

Disposal

This product should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. If you are unsure how to proceed, contact your local authority.
