How much coffee should I use per cup?

We suggest using 1 heaping tablespoon of medium ground coffee per cup. Adjust to taste.

Can I use paper filters with this coffee maker?

Yes, a paper filter can be placed inside the removable filter basket in addition to or instead of the permanent filter.

How do I clean the coffee maker?

Wash removable parts (carafe, lid, permanent filter) in the dishwasher top rack or by hand with hot, sudsy water. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth.

How do I descale the coffee maker?

Fill the reservoir to the 6-cup line with white vinegar and add cold water to the 10-cup line. Brew half, let sit 15 minutes, then brew the rest. Follow with a full cycle of fresh water to rinse.

Why is no coffee brewing?

Ensure the water reservoir has enough water, the carafe is properly placed, and the power button is ON. Also check that the filter basket is correctly inserted.

What does the Sneak-A-Cup feature do?

The Sneak-A-Cup interrupt feature allows you to pause the brewing cycle and pour a cup of coffee before the full cycle is finished.

Can I use the carafe on a stove?

No, the carafe is designed for use with this coffee maker only. Never place it on a range top or in a microwave.

Why is my coffee weak?

Use more coffee grounds or a finer grind. Also ensure you are not under-filling the water reservoir relative to the coffee amount.

What should I do if the coffee maker leaks?

Check that the water reservoir is not overfilled beyond the MAX line and that the carafe is correctly centered on the keep-hot plate under the brew basket.

How do I get warranty service?

Call 1-800-231-9786 for warranty service in the US and Canada. Have proof of purchase (receipt) ready. Do not return to the store.

POLARIZED PLUG (120V Models Only)

This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

TAMPER-RESISTANT SCREW

Warning: This appliance is equipped with a tamper-resistant screw to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel.

ELECTRICAL CORD

a) A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is to be provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
b) Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
c) If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used,

1) The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance,

2) If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord, and
3) The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

How to Use

This product is for household use only.

GETTING STARTED

• Remove all packing material, and any stickers from the product.
• Remove and save literature.

- Wash all removable parts as instructed in CARE AND CLEANING section of this manual.

- Open one-piece cover and insert permanent filter into removable filter basket (B).

- Pour fresh cold water up to 10-cup level mark into the water reservoir (C).

• Uncoil power cord and plug into standard electrical outlet.
• Brew water through appliance following the BREWING COFFEE instructions without adding coffee grounds. This removes any dust or residue that may remain in the system during the manufacturing process.
• Discard the water from the carafe and the paper filter from the filter basket.

- Turn off the appliance; unplug it and allow appliance to cool down.

BREWING COFFEE

1. Open the cover of the coffeemaker.
2. Fill carafe with desired amount of cold tap water using water markings on carafe; pour into water reservoir.

Do not exceed the 10-cup (MAX) level.

1. Insert removable filter basket into filter basket holder.
2. Place permanent filter into the removable filter basket.
3. Add desired amount of ground coffee. We suggest one heaping tablespoon per cup.
4. Close one-piece cover securely.
5. Place carafe on the nonstick "Keep Hot" carafe plate.
6. Plug cord into standard electrical outlet.
7. Press ON/OFF (I/O) switch. The power indicator lights up and brewing begins.
8. To keep coffee hot, replace carafe on the nonstick "Keep Hot" carafe plate when not serving coffee. The coffeemaker will keep coffee warm automatically.

1. Once coffee grounds have cooled, carefully open cover to remove permanent filter; remove and discard used grounds. Remove permanent filter and wash. Close one-piece cover.

2. Unplug appliance when not in use.

COFFEE BREWING TIPS

- Stir coffee in carafe before serving to evenly distribute the flavor.

• Coffee that is poured during brewing cycle may vary in strength from the finished brew.

• Not sure how much coffee to use? Begin by using 1 level tablespoon of medium grind e for each cup of coffee to be brewed.

• For variety, add a 2-inch piece of lemon or orange peel to the coffee grounds before brewing.

• For a special occasion, whip some heavy cream with 1 or 2 tablespoons of hazel nut, chocolate or almond liqueur. Use to top off each cup of coffee.
• Add a 2-inch piece of vanilla bean to the sugar bowl. You'll be surprised at how good it tastes.
• Keep your coffeemaker scrupulously clean; you will be pleased with the flavor.

Care and Cleaning

This product contains no user serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel.

CLEANING

1. Be sure the unit is unplugged and has cooled.
2. Open the cover.
3. To remove the permanent filter, grip the handle and lift straight up.
4. Wash the permanent filter, carafe and carafe lid in dishwasher, top-rack or wash by hand in hot, sudsy water.

MINERAL DEPOSITS AND CLOGGING

Mineral deposits left by hard water can clog your coffeemaker. Cleaning is recommended every 3 months.

1. Pour white vinegar into the water reservoir up to the 6-cup level on the water window. Add cold water up to the 10-cup line.
2. Put a paper filter in the filter basket and close the cover. Set the empty carafe on the keep hot carafe plate.
3. Turn on the coffeemaker and let half the cleaning solution brew into the carafe (until water level goes down to around "5"). Turn off the coffeemaker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.
4. Turn on the coffeemaker and brew the remaining cleaning solution into the carafe.
5. Turn off the coffeemaker; empty the carafe and discard the paper filter.
6. Fill the reservoir with cold water to the 10-cup line, replace the empty carafe and then turn on the coffeemaker for a complete brew cycle to flush out the remaining cleaning solution. You may have to repeat this to eliminate the vinegar smell/taste.
7. Wash the filter basket and carafe as instructed in CLEANING.

CARAFE CARE

A damaged carafe may result in possible burns from a hot liquid. To avoid breaking:

- Do not allow all liquid to evaporate from the carafe while on the "Keep Hot" plate or heat the carafe when empty.

• Discard the carafe if damaged in any manner. A chip or crack could result in breakage.
• Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleansers, they will scratch and weaken the glass.
• Do not place the carafe on or near a hot gas or electric burner, in a heated oven or in a microwave oven.
• Avoid rough handling and sharp blows.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION
Coffeemaker does not turn on.	Coffeemaker is not plugged in.	Check to be sure appliance is plugged in to a working outlet and the ON/OFF (I/O) button is powered ON.
Coffeemaker is leaking. Water	reservoir may be overfilled.Carafe may not be correctly placed on adjustable keep warm plate.	Make sure water reservoir has not been filled beyond MAX fill line.Make sure carafe is placed correctly on adjustable keep warm carafe plate and is centered under brew basket holder.
Brewing takes too long. Coffeemaker might need cleaning.		Follow procedure in CARE AND CLEANING.
Coffee is not brewing. Water	reservoir might be empty.	Make sure water reservoir has sufficient water to brew desired number of cups of coffee.
Coffeemaker brews clear water.	There may be no coffee grounds in removable brew basket.	Add sufficient amount of coffee grounds to paper or gold tone filter in removable brew basket.
One-piece cover does not close.	Removable filter basket may not be correctly placed.	Remove filter basket and replace correctly into holder.
Filter basket overflows Carafe	may be improperly placed on adjustable keep hot carafe plate.	Remove carafe and insert so that carafe rests comfortably within grooves on keep hot carafe plate.
Grounds in brewed coffee. Filter and/or brew basket are not properly placed.		Insert paper filter into filter basket and insert basket properly into holder.
