How do I assemble the leaf blower/vacuum?

Fully assemble the vacuum/blower tube to the motor housing using the provided screws and covers. Attach the leaf bag by pushing its opening onto the connection until the latches engage. Fit the shoulder strap to the bracket. Always ensure the fan cover is securely fitted before use.

How do I switch between blowing and vacuuming modes?

Move the selector lever (11) to the desired position: down for blowing mode, up for vacuuming mode. Make sure the lever is fully in one end position, never in between. If it is stiff to move, empty the leaf bag.

What should I do if the motor does not start?

Check that the power cord is plugged in and the socket has power (check the fuse, 10 A). Inspect the power cord for damage. Ensure the fan cover is correctly fitted with the original screw. If the problem persists, contact customer service as the motor or switch may be faulty.

How do I empty the leaf bag?

Switch off and unplug the machine. Open the zip on the back of the leaf bag and shake out the contents. For storage, detach the bag, turn it inside-out, shake it out, ensure it is dry and undamaged before reattaching.

Can I vacuum up wet leaves or hard objects?

No. Only vacuum dry leaves and grass. Do not vacuum water, glass, metal, stones, ash, or hot coals, as these can damage the impeller and cause injury.

How do I clean the machine?

Switch off and unplug before cleaning. Use a soft brush to clean cooling air openings and the impeller. Clean the casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use strong detergents or solvents. Wash the leaf bag by hand once a year with mild detergent and let it dry naturally.

What does the speed control do?

The speed control (6) on the rear handle adjusts the motor speed from 6000 to 13000 rpm. Move the control forward for maximum speed (270 km/h) and backward to reduce speed.

Why does the vacuum performance decrease even when the bag is not full?

A blockage in the vacuum/blower tube or fan may be the cause. Switch off and unplug the machine, remove the fan cover and leaf bag, carefully clear the blockage, and check that the impeller rotates freely.

Is the machine safe to use in wet conditions?

No. Do not expose the leaf blower/vacuum to rain or wet conditions. It is rated for dry use only. Always use a residual current device (RCD) for added safety.

What spare parts are available for the BVK2400A?

1. Safety

1.1 General safety instructions

Warning! Read the entire user guide. If the instructions below are not followed, there is a risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term “power tool” in the warning text below refers to your mains or battery powered hand tool.

1) Work area

a) Keep the work area clean and well lit. Accidents are more likely to happen in cluttered and dark areas.
b) Do not use power tools in explosive environments, for example in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Electric power tools generate sparks which may ignite dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away when you are operating the power tool. You may lose control if you are distracted.

2) Electrical safety

a) The plug on the power tool must match the wall socket. Never modify the plug in any way. Never use an adapter plug with an earthed power tool. Using unmodified plugs and matching wall sockets reduces the risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed objects such as pipes, radiators, cookers or refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
c) Do not expose the power tool to rain or wet conditions. If water gets into an electric power tool, the risk of electric shock is increased.
d) Do not abuse the mains lead. Never use the mains lead to carry or drag the power tool or to unplug it. Keep the mains lead away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or tangled mains leads increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension lead suitable for outdoor use. Using an extension lead suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert and use common sense when using a power tool. Do not use a power tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool may result in serious injury.
b) Use safety equipment. Always wear safety glasses. Using safety equipment such as a dust mask, non-slip safety shoes, a hard hat and ear protectors reduces the risk of injury.
c) Avoid starting the tool accidentally. Make sure that the switch is in the OFF position before you plug the tool in. You could cause an accident if you carry a power tool with your finger on the trigger switch or connect a power tool to the power supply when the switch is at ON.
d) Remove all service tools/keys before you switch on the power tool. A service tool left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may cause injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This gives you better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loosely-fitting clothes, jewellery or long hair may get trapped in moving parts.
g) If dust extraction and collection equipment is available, make sure it is connected and properly used. Using such equipment can reduce dust-related hazards.

4) Using and maintaining the power tool

a) Do not overload the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the work you are doing.
The correct power tool will do the job better and more safely at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. A power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Unplug the power tool before you make any adjustments, change an accessory or put the tool away. These preventive safety measures will reduce the risk of the tool being started accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow people unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions to use it. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of inexperienced users.
e) Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, for broken parts or anything else that may affect the operation of the power tool. If there is any damage it must be repaired before the tool can be used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories, etc., in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the type of work to be done. Using the power tool to do work for which it is not intended may result in a hazardous situation.

5) Servicing

a) Servicing and repairs must be done by authorised personnel, using only genuine spare parts. This guarantees that the safety of the electric power tool is preserved.

1.2 Special safety rules for the leaf blower/vacuum

• Keep children and pets well away when you are using the leaf vacuum.
• Never the use the leaf vacuum if any part of the guard is missing or damaged.
  • Make sure that the power lead is directed backwards away from the machine when the machine is in use.
  • The machine may only be used by adults who have read the user guide.
• Keep your hands and feet away from the air intake or outlet of the leaf vacuum when starting the motor.
  • Always unplug the power lead when leaving the leaf vacuum unattended.
  • Always unplug the power lead from the socket before servicing and adjusting the leaf vacuum.
• Keep the area around the motor cooling openings clean. Remove any grass and leaves.
• Keep the leaf vacuum out of the reach of children.
• Carry the leaf vacuum by its handle, never by the power lead.
• Connect the leaf vacuum to the power supply via a residual current device (RCD).

• Switch off the leaf vacuum and unplug the power lead:

• if the machine starts to vibrate violently. Check if anything is damaged or loose.

• before cleaning the fan and blowing/vacuum tube, cleaning/emptying or servicing.
• whenever you take a break or leave the leaf vacuum out of your sight.
• if the extension lead is damaged. Do not touch the lead, only the plug.

• Use only genuine spare parts.
- Do not drag the extension lead through water or damp grass. Check frequently that the extension lead is sound and undamaged.
• Only use the leaf vacuum in daylight.
- When using the leaf vacuum, walk normally, keeping your balance. Do not run.
- Check regularly that all screws and nuts are tight.
• The user is liable for injury to people and damage to property.
- For safety, electrical tools should be connected to the power supply via a residual current device (RCD).

Leaf blowing

• The air blast may throw up objects which may cause injury.
- Do not direct the air blast from the leaf blower towards people or animals.
- Do not use the leaf blower to blow away hard objects.
- Do not use the leaf blower close to people or animals.
• Take special care when using the leaf blower in stairs or other locations with sharp corners and edges.
• Use safety glasses or a visor. Wear ear protectors, full-cover clothing and shoes.

Leaf vacuuming

• Do not use the product as a leaf vacuum without fitting and closing the leaf sack.
• Do not vacuum up sharp, pointed or hard objects such as stones, nails etc., which may penetrate the fabric of the leaf sack.
• Only vacuum up soft objects such as leaves, grass, etc. Hard objects may damage the impeller.
• Switch off and unplug the leaf blower/vacuum if the machine starts to vibrate.
• Check the leaf sack regularly and replace it (with a genuine spare part) if it is damaged.

1.3 Product marking with safety symbols

Warning! If you fail to read and think about this, the result may be lethal danger, an accident or damage to the product.

Always used approved ear protection.

Read through the entire user guide before using the product and save the guide for future reference.

Do not use the machine in the rain or in any other wet environment. Do not store it outdoors.

4. Assembly

The product comes partly assembled.

Warning! Make sure that the leaf vacuum is switched off and that the power lead is unplugged before assembling, dismantling or cleaning the product.

4.1 Fitting the fan cover

Warning! Never use the leaf vacuum without the fan cover fitted.

Warning! Make sure that the leaf vacuum is switched off and that the power lead is unplugged before fitting or removing the fan cover.

1. Press the back of the fan cover (16) against the locking lug of the motor housing (17).
2. Lower the fan cover and secure it with the screw (18).
3. Check that the fan cover seals against the motor housing and that it is securely fixed.

4.2 Fitting the vacuum/blower tube and the leaf sack

Warning! Never use the leaf vacuum without the vacuum/blower tube and leaf sack.

Warning! Make sure that the leaf vacuum is switched off and that the power lead is unplugged before fitting the vacuum/blower tube and leaf sack.

1. Partly withdraw the vacuum/blower tube (1) from the motor housing (3) until the screw holes are in line with the holes in the motor housing.
2. Secure the vacuum/blower tube to the motor housing with the screws. Press the screw covers (2) over the screws.

1. Fit the leaf sack to the motor housing: Push the opening of the leaf sack on to the connection (12) on the motor housing until the two latches on the leaf sack engage. Attach the two suspension eyes (13) to the hooks (10) on the vacuum/blower tube.

5. Preparations before use

1. Secure the extension cable so that it is not unplugged by accident. If necessary, use an outdoor extension lead with sufficient conductor area (at least 1.5mm^2 ).

2. Secure the extension lead to the lead attachment (9). Fully unroll the lead. Check that the leaf sack has been correctly fitted and that the shoulder strap has been adjusted so that the leaf vacuum is comfortable to use.

3. Before starting, ALWAYS check:

4. that you have safety glasses or a visor, ear protectors, full-cover clothing and shoes. Respiratory protective equipment may be needed in dusty conditions.

5. that the leaf sack has been fitted, that its zip is closed, that the blower/vacuum tube has been fitted and that the casing of the machine is sound and undamaged.
   • that the power lead is undamaged.
   • that the fan cover and its fixing screw are secure and undamaged.

6. Use

6.1 Starting, stopping and speed control

The switch has two positions: Press and hold the switch to start the motor. Release the switch to stop the motor.

Set the required speed with the control (6) on the rear handle. Move the control forward for maximum speed and back to reduce the speed.

6.2 Advice on using the leaf vacuum

• On starting, do not aim the leaf blower/vacuum at the ground or towards people.
  • Only vacuum/blow dry grass and leaves.
• Hold the leaf vacuum with both hands.
• Do not direct the air blast towards cars and other objects with a painted finish or any other sensitive surface treatment.
  • Take care to avoid harming the bark of trees or any plants that are meant to be left in place.
• If necessary use a rake or similar tool to free the leaves from the ground before using the leaf vacuum.
• Check frequently that the cooling air openings of the motor are clear. Remove leaves and any other material blocking the openings, so that the motor does not overheat.
• Switch off the leaf vacuum, unplug the power lead and empty the leaf sack. Do not leave any leaf material in the leaf sack. Detach the leaf sack, turn it inside-out and shake out any contents. Once a year, hand-wash the leaf sack using a mild detergent. Allow it to dry naturally.

6.3 Leaf blowing

1. Move the selector lever (11) down to the blower position. It should be easy to move the lever between its end positions. If it is stiff to move, the leaf sack may need to be emptied.
2. Hold the leaf blower firmly and press the switch to start the motor. Adjust the speed with the control (6) on the rear handle.
3. Work as follows: Blow the leaves in front of you to gather them up in one place. You can use the blower to extract leaves from places that are awkward to access.

Note: The selector lever must always be at an end position, never in between.

6.4 Leaf vacuuming

Warning! Do not vacuum up water, pieces of glass, metal, hard objects, ash or hot coals, since this may injure you and damage the machine.

Note: The selector lever must always be at an end position, never in between. It should be easy to move the lever between its end positions. If it is stiff to move, the leaf sack may need to be emptied.

1. Move the selector lever (11) up to the vacuum position.
2. Hold the leaf vacuum firmly and press the switch to start the motor. Adjust the speed with the control (6).
3. Hold the leaf vacuum about 5 cm above the leaves you want to vacuum up.
4. Work as follows: Swing the leaf vacuum from side to side, move forward and swing it from side to side again, and so on. If the leaf vacuum slows down, do not move forward so far each time.

6.5 Empty the leaf sack when it is nearly full

Warning! Switch off the leaf vacuum and unplug the power lead before you empty the leaf sack.

When the leaf sack is full, the leaf vacuum is less effective and the leaf sack must be emptied:

1. Switch off the leaf vacuum and unplug the power lead.
2. Open the zip on the back of the leaf sack and shake out the contents.
3. Detach the leaf sack before putting the blower/vacuum away. Turn it inside-out and shake out all the contents. Make sure that it is dry and undamaged, then re-attach it to the blower/vacuum.

If the strength of the vacuum decreases even though the leaf sack is not full, check for a leaf blockage in the vacuum/blower tube. To clean the vacuum/blower tube or fan:

1. Switch off the leaf vacuum, unplug the power lead and allow the fan to stop.
2. Remove the fan cover and the leaf sack.
3. Carefully remove the blockage and check that the impeller and other parts are undamaged.
4. Carefully turn the impeller by hand to check that it can rotate freely.
5. Refit the fan cover and the leaf sack.

6.6 Find a good working posture

Place the shoulder strap over one shoulder and adjust the length of the strap for a comfortable working posture. The front handle (4) is adjustable. Press in the two round locking buttons on the handle and move it back and forth to find the required position.

7. Maintenance

Warning! Before you start, make sure that the leaf vacuum is switched off and that the power lead is unplugged.

• Clean the cooling air openings regularly with a soft brush, to prevent the motor overheating.
• Remove the fan cover and clean the impeller regularly with a soft brush or a cloth.
  Check that the impeller is undamaged.
• Store the machine indoors, in a cool, dry place, out of the reach of children.
• Clean the casing with a cloth slightly moistened with water and a mild detergent. Do not use strong detergents or solvents as these may damage the leaf vacuum.
• If the leaf vacuum starts to vibrate violently in use, switch it off immediately and unplug it. Severe vibration is a sign of a mechanical fault. This may present a hazard to the user.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible cause Solution
The motor does not start.	No power at the socket. Check the fuse (10 A).
	Faulty power lead. Check the power cable. Try a different cable.
	Faulty motor or switch. Contact our customer service department.
	Fan cover not correctly fitted or fitted with the wrong screw.	Fit the fan cover with the original screw.

9. Waste management

When the time comes to dispose of the product, do so in accordance with local regulations. If you are not sure what to do, ask your local authority.
