Operation

WARNING! • The blade begins to rotate as soon as the engine has been started. • Do not operate the machine in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas as the exhaust gas contains toxic
substances. • Keep hands, feet, hair and clothing away from all moving parts of the machine. • The exhaust and other parts of the machine will become hot during use. • Make sure that the blade is securely fastened before starting the engine. • To start the engine, make sure that the spark plug boot is located on the plug and the machine is filled with sufficient oil and petrol.

Please note: Before using the mower, you must apply air filter oil to the foam air filter element. This prevents dust ingress into the motor, thus preventing potential engine damage or failure. This should done after cleaning the air filter.
Starting the Engine
NOTE: • Before starting the mower, check the oil and fuel levels. Warranty will be void if the engine becomes faulty due to insufficient oil and fuel levels. • Ensure the mower is set to the highest height setting so the blades are not resting deep into the grass.
- Move the throttle lever to the START/RUN position.
- Depress the priming bulb fully 2-3 times.

natural_image
Close-up of a hand holding a metal tool, no visible text or symbolsImportant Primer Bulb Information
- The primer bulb pump is designed to deliver fuel directly into the engine for easy start. Follow these guidelines and you should have trouble free starting.
- For first starting at the beginning of the mower session, Pump the primer 2-3 times. DO NOT EXCEED 3 PUMPS.
- To restart a cold engine i.e. after the engine has started and run for just a short time, you will only need to pump the bulb once. DO NOT EXCEED 2 PUMPS.
• To restart a hot engine, you will not need to pump the primer.
NOTE: If you over pump the engine, it will not start. DO NOT re-pump the engine primer.
- Continue to pull the recoiler starter and after a number of pulls, the engine will start
Mowing Tips
- The speed of the motor is set to a factory speed setting and the motor will try and maintain this speed during operation. If the speed of the engine slows down, this could indicate that the mower is being overloaded by trying to cut too much grass or the catcher may already be full. Try mowing a narrower strip, mowing slower, raising the cutting height or emptying the catcher.
- Before mowing, always check and clear the grassy areas for all foreign objects, especially those that are solid and semi-concealed in the ground such as rocks, stumps and garden stakes.
- Sharp blades cut cleanly and efficiently, if the blade is dull, it will tear the grass. This will result in the blade edges turning brown. When the blades no longer cut cleanly, either sharpen them or replace them.
- To safely operate the mower, ensure all four wheels are on the ground and be careful not to lose your footing or control of the mower. Be very careful when mowing uneven or rough ground. Keep a firm grip on the handlebar at all times. Always walk, never run with the mower.
- For healthy growth, grass should not be cut too short. The grass will remain healthier, greener and require less watering.
- Vary your cutting pattern from week to week, this will help to prevent matting and graining of the grass.
Cleaning a Flooded Engine
NOTE: if the engine won't start after you have operated the starter several times, the engine may be flooded with excess fuel. Use following procedure to clear and start a flooded engine.
- Release the engine start/stop lever to stop the engine.
- Remove the spark plug, dry it, and then reinstall it.
NOTE: Install the spark plug carefully by hand, to avoid cross-threading. After the plug is seated, tighten 1/8 to 1/4 turn with socket spanner of spark plug to compress the washer.
- Pull the engine start/stop lever toward the upper handle.
- Operate the starter as described above.
Using the Self-Propelled Function

To stop the moving lawnmower, just simply release the drive lever.
Mowing

WARNING: • Always observe the strictest safety procedures when using the lawnmower. Carefully read the safety instructions of this manual before using the lawnmower. • Never open to when the grass catcher has been detached (to be emptied) and the engine is still running. The can cause serious injuries!
- Select your required setting.
- Start the engine and allow it to run and set it to required speed. See Starting the Engine.
- Keep a firm grip on the upper handle with engine stop/start lever and drive lever (clutch lever) closed and walk along with it self-propelling to start mowing.
When Mowing
- Walk, never run with the mower, be very careful when mowing uneven or rough ground.
• Mow across slopes, never up and down. -
Be careful when changing the direction of the mower on a slope.
• Do not mow excessively steep slopes. -
The best result will be achieved if the grass is dry. Wet grass will tend to clog the blade and the grass collection system.
- Grass grows at different rates at different time of the year. Never use the lowest cutting height for the first cut of the season or in drought conditions.
• Only about one thirds of the grass height should be cut. - When mowing with the mulching function, do not cut high or wet grass to ensure that the cut grass can be scattered efficiently. When you have been cutting for several minutes, please stop the mower, and clean the blade and the deck.
- Do not remove grass debris in the mower casing or on the blade by hand or with your feet. Instead use suitable tools such as a brush or broom.
Emptying the Grass Catcher
As soon as grass clippings start to trail the lawn mower, it is time to empty the grass catcher.
NOTE: Before taking off the grass catcher, switch off the engine and wait until the blade has come to a stop.
-
To take off the grass catcher, use one hand to lift up the ejector flap and the other to grab onto the carry handle. The ejector flap automatically falls down after removing the grass catcher and closes off the rear chute opening.
-
Empty the grass catcher of grass debris and then refit grass catcher.
NOTE: If any grass residue is caught in the discharge chute, clean it using a brush. Do not remove grass debris in the mower casing or on the blade with your hand or feet. Instead, use suitable tools such as a brush or broom. To ensure that the cut grass can be collected into the grass catcher, the discharge opening, and interior of the mower casing must be cleared of any blockage.
Maintenance, Storage and Transportation

WARNING! Before performing any maintenance or cleaning work, switch OFF the engine and wait until the blade has come to a stop.
General Cleaning
- The lawn mower should be cleaned thoroughly every time after it has been used.
• Always clean your lawnmower immediately after use. - Do not allow grass cuttings and other debris to become dry and hard on any of the mower surfaces.
• Dried grass remnants and dirt may impair the mowing operation. - Check that the grass chute is free of any residual grass. Remove any such residue.
- Check the underside of the lawn mower and the blade mount. for this purpose, tilt the lawn mower onto its left side (opposite the oil filler neck).
NOTE: Before placing the lawn mower on its side, drain the fuel tank fully using a petrol extraction pump. Do not tilt the lawn mower by more than 90 degrees.
Spark Plug Maintenance
- Once the engine has cooled down, pull off the spark plug with a twist.
- Remove the spark plug using a spark plug wrench.
- Clean the spark plug with a wire brush (not supplied).
- Using a feeler gauge, set the gap to 0.75mm
- Install the spark plug carefully by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- After the spark plug is seated, tighten with the spanner to compress the washer.
Air Filter Servicing
Soiled air filters reduce the engine output by supplying too little air to the carburettor. if the air contains a lot of dust, the air filter should be checked more frequently.
WARNING! Never run the engine without the air filter element installed.
- Remove the air cleaner outside cover (A). Be careful to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the air cleaner assembly.
- Separate the Air Filter (A) from the Air Filter Housing (B).
- Inspect the air filter. Clean dirty air filter with warm water and mild soap. Allow air filter to dry thoroughly before re-installation
- Install the air filter assembly onto the carburettor and secure with screw.
NOTE: Do not use pressurized air or solvents to clean the filter. Pressurized air can damage the filter and solvents will dissolve the filter.

Engine Oil Replacement
- Tilt the lawnmower towards the oil filler, have a container ready to catch the oil and remove the dipstick. Once the oil has been emptied, replace the dipstick and wipe clean any spillages.
- Refill with 500ml SAE30 oil or equivalent i.e. SAE5W/30, SAE10W/30. When the dipstick is rested on the filler pipe (i.e. not turn in pace), the oil level must be between the min and H marks on the dipstick. See Checking the Engine Oil Level and Filling with Engine Oil.
- Start the engine and allow it to run briefly.
- Stop the engine, wait one minute and check the oil level. Top up, if necessary.
Note: See more in engine manual.
Replacing the Blades
For safety reasons you should only ever have your blade sharpened, balanced and mounted by an authorised service workshop. For optimum results it is recommended that the blade should be inspected once a year.

WARNING! • Before you remove the grass catcher, stop the engine and wait until the blade stops completely. • You will need garden gloves (not provided) and a spanner wrench (not provided) to remove the blade. • Don't invert the mower. Tip it slightly towards the oil filler pipe and reach under the deck. • Always handle the blade with care, sharp edges could cause serious injuries. ALWYAS USE GLOVES. Renew your metal blade after 50Hrs of mowing or 2yrs, whichever is sooner regardless of condition. • If the blade is cracked or damaged, replace it with a new one. • Don't hold the blade by hand directly. • Maintain the sharpness of the blade when cutting grass. If the blade has worn excessively and become pitted and blunt, it should be replaced or sharpened. The sharpness of the blade will affect the performance of the lawnmower. • For safety reasons, we recommend that the blade should be changed only by someone qualified and authorised to do so. • Before making any adjustment or maintenance procedures to the lawn mower, ensure it is turned OFF and the spark plug lead is removed. Wear heavy gloves to protect your hands.

- Remove the blade bolt using a 17mm spanner (not supplied) by turning in an anti-clockwise direction, then remove the outer flange and washer. This allows you to be able to remove the blade mounting plate from the lawn mower.
- To remove a single blade from the blade mounting plate, again use a 17mm spanner (not supplied) to loosen and remove the nut, screw and washers.
NOTE: There is one washer located under the screw on the outer side of the blade mounting plate, and one on the underside of the blade mounting plate in between the blade and blade mounting plate. Be careful not to lose these.
-
Repeat the process to remove the other 3 blades.
-
Clean the dirt and grass from around the blade mounting area.
- Replace all 4 blades to ensure a smooth even cut and re-fit them on the mower in the reverse direction they were removed.
- Lastly, secure the nuts firmly, (20-25Nm) repeating this for the other 3 blades.
- Replace the blade mounting plate (37) with new blades attached, then the outer flange (32), followed by the blade bolt (31). Retighten the blade bolt tightly (50 - 59Nm).
NOTE: Use a wooden block to stop the blade from turning. The four blades should be tightened fully but check to ensure they can still swing back if they were to hit a solid object. Where required, tighten the bolts with a torque wrench, the centre disc blade bolt torque: 50 – 59Nm and the four blades torque: 20-25Nm. If you do not have a torque wrench, ask a mower service dealer to tighten the blade bolts before you use the mower.
Blades should be replaced when they become worn and no longer cut the grass cleanly. The performance of grass catching can also reduce if the blades become worn.
