USER MANUAL IAN 31183 POWERFIX
Reading all the safety guideline and information contained in these Operating Instructions is a prerequisite for using this torque wrench according to the regulations.
Any usage not complying with the information provided shall be regarded as not according with the regulations. The operator and user are solely responsible for any injury or damage caused by incorrect application.
The trigger accuracy is ± 4% of the set gauge value in the direction of actuation. The torque wrench has adjustment gauges with both European and American measuring units. The button in the centre of the ratchet makes ejecting the mounted insertable tools easier.
Contents of the torque wrench box
- Torque wrench
- 125 mm extension - 3 inserts 17, 19 and 21 mm
Safety guidelines
Before use, check that the trigger value is adjusted correctly and that the insert and/or insertable tool is fitted securely. Always apply the tool so that it cannot slip from the screw connection, otherwise people and objects will be set at risk. Force transmission errors must be avoided. For this reason, use as few articulated links or extensions as possible. It is also possible to loosen screws using this product (switch the small lever on the ratchet head to the left - switch it to the right again to tighten screws). During this process, never used the maximum torque value on the gauge (for example when setting the limit of the torque wrench) can damage the torque wrench, possibly generate an incorrect trigger value. Torque wrenches are calibrated precision tools and should be treated gently. Therefore, avoid mechanical, chemical or thermal influences over and above the strains determined for correct usage. The torque wrench must never be used to hit objects (danger of accident or damage). Extreme climatic conditions such as cold, heat or high humidity may have a negative influence on the trigger accuracy. The accessories delivered in the box are suitable for the torque wrench. When using inserts or insertable tools which are not included in the scope of delivery, you must ensure that they are standard designs and that they have the correct shape and shape of the target tool to be tightened. The maximum permitted load on the insert or insertable tool used must also be observed. These may be lower than the achievable release torque on the torque wrench. The use of specially produced tools may be a source of danger which is hard to assess. Thoughtless usage can lead to injury and/or damage.
Setting the required torques
The specific information from the car manufacturers on the torques to be applied must be taken into account. Adjustment is carried out in two work steps based on the gauge located in the rotating handle. The switch lever on the ratchet is turned to the right.
Here are two examples: one for 130 Nm (Newton metres) and one for 9.0 kg/m:
Example 1 (Gauge range 28-210 Nm)
In order to achieve a value of 130 Nm, first set the upper edge of the rotating handle to 126 Nm by turning it to the right. The 0 position must align exactly with the centre line on the adjustment gauge (see Fig. right).

Example 1 Rough adjustment

Example 2 Rough adjustment

Example 1 Fine adjustment

Example 2
Fine adjustment
For fine adjustment to 130 Nm, the ,4' on the rotating handle should also be positioned by turn it to the right to the centre line on the adjustment gauge (see Fig. right).
Example 2
(Gauge range 2.9 - 21.4 kg/m) In order to achieve a value of 9.0 kg/m, first set the upper edge of the rotating handle to 8.6 kg/m by turning it to the right. The 0 position must align exactly with the centre line on the adjustment gauge (see Fig. right).
For fine adjustment to 9.0 kg/m, the ,4' on the rotating handle should also be positioned by turning it to the right, then adjusting the adjustment
It to the right to the centre line on the adjustment gauge (see fig. right). After fine adjustment and before each application, the rotating handle must be locked by turning the lock button to the right. On reaching the set torque, the product clicks audibly (automatic trigger). After this, do not continue to operate the wrench. The torque wrench is not ready for use until it has been released again.
Important guidelines
The following guidelines must be taken into account. Only then can long-term, problem-free usage of the precision tool be expected. Before tightening the screws, please check that their threads are free of dirt and lightly oiled. Basically, the torque wrench should be used so that the required torque lies roughly in the centre of the gauge range; but never at its upper limit. During longer periods of non-use, the wrench should be reset to the lowest gauge value. As the most important function components of the torque wrench are pre-greased at the site of manufacture, do not clean with or in solvents!
