Frequently Asked Questions - Powershred SB-99Ci FELLOWES

What type of cut does the Fellowes Powershred SB-99Ci use?
The SB-99Ci uses a cross-cut (micro-cut) mechanism, producing small particles of 4 x 38 mm for high security (P-4 level).
How many sheets can the SB-99Ci shred at once?
It can shred up to 10-12 sheets of 70 gsm paper per pass. For best performance, avoid exceeding this limit.
What safety features does the SB-99Ci have?
It features SafeSense® Technology that automatically stops the shredder if hands touch the feed opening. It also has auto-start/stop and thermal overload protection to prevent overheating.
How do I clean and maintain the shredder?
Unplug the shredder, use a soft brush to remove paper dust from the feed opening, and apply Fellowes Shredder Oil across the cutter blades every two months. Run the shredder in reverse for a few seconds after oiling.
What should I do if the SB-99Ci jams?
First, unplug the shredder. Clear any visible jammed paper from the feed opening. Use the reverse function (if available) to back out the jam. If jam persists, manually pull out jammed paper from the shredder throat, then reset by turning on.
Can the SB-99Ci shred credit cards and CDs?
Yes, it can shred credit cards (single card at a time) and CDs/DVDs. For CDs, insert into the specially marked slot to avoid damage.
What is the bin capacity and how do I empty it?
The bin holds 6 gallons (22.7 liters). To empty, pull out the bin, lift the basket, and dispose of shredded material. For easy disposal, use Fellowes replacement bin bags.
What does the SafeSense light indicator mean?
A steady green light means the shredder is ready. A red light or flashing indicates a safety activation (hands detected) or overload. Wait for the shredder to cool down or clear the obstruction.
How long can I use the SB-99Ci continuously?
It has a run time of 20 minutes, after which it requires a 30-minute cool-down period to prevent motor damage.
Where can I find replacement parts like oil or bin bags?
Replacement parts and accessories, such as Fellowes Shredder Oil (model 35250) and bin bags (model 36061), are available on the Fellowes website or from authorized retailers.

- All cross-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. If not oiled, a machine may experience diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise when shredding and could ultimately stop running. To avoid these problems, we recommend you oil your shredder each time you empty your waste bin.

CLEANING AUTO-START INFRARED SENSORS

Paper detection sensors are designed for maintenance free operation. However, on rare occasions the sensors may become blocked by paper dust causing the motor to run even if there is no paper present (Note: two paper detection sensors are located in the center of the paper entry).
