Frequently Asked Questions - 41-0801-W Weston

How to use the Weston 41-0801-W smoke infuser?
Remove the compartment lid, fill it with wood chips, replace the lid, and light the chips with a lighter. Place the hose under a dome or in a bag, turn on the unit with the ON/OFF switch, and let the smoke infuse the food for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
What types of wood chips should I use?
Use food-grade wood chips. Apple and cherry give a mild aroma, mesquite a stronger flavor.
Can I use the infuser without a dome?
Yes, you can use a ziplock bag or a bowl covered with plastic wrap to trap the smoke.
How to clean the infuser after use?
Make sure it is turned off and cool. Remove the hose, unscrew the chip compartment and smoke compartment. Wash removable parts (hose, grates, compartments) in warm soapy water. Do not put anything in the dishwasher. Wipe the base with a damp cloth without immersing it.
Why is the infuser not producing smoke?
Check that the batteries are installed correctly and the switch is ON. Ensure the wood chips are well lit and the fan is working. Also check that the hose is not blocked.
Can the infuser be used around children?
No, the unit gets hot and must be kept out of reach of children. Close supervision is necessary if used near them.
What is the warranty period?
The warranty is one year from the date of purchase, covering defects in material and workmanship. Keep the original receipt.
Can I use a torch to light the chips?
No, use only a utility lighter or match. A torch could damage the unit.
How to store the infuser when not in use?
Remove the batteries, disassemble, clean and dry all parts before storing in a dry place.
What if the infuser is damaged or stops working?
Do not use it. Contact customer service at 1-800-814-4895 (USA) or 001-216-901-6801 (outside USA) for inspection or repair.

  1. Push rubber end of Hose onto Smoke Outlet. Make sure Hose is secure.
  2. Place food to be smoked on a cutting board and cover with a cloche*.

  8. Switch to OFF Ⓐ) as soon as smoke starts filling cloche or container.

Weston 41-0801-W - HOW TO USE - 1

CAUTION: HOT SURFACE. The chip chamber and chamber cap get hot. Allow to cool before contacting.

  1. Keep food under cloche for 30 seconds to one minute or until desired smoke level is reached.
  2. Tilt cloche away from you when removing.
  3. Let Smoke Infuser cool completely.
  4. Smoke Infuser must be taken apart and cleaned after every use.

TIPS:

  • Allowing some foods like cheese and sliced meats to refrigerate after smoking mellows flavor.
  • To determine level of smokiness start out with 30 seconds and add more time if more flavor is desired.
  • When selecting wood chips and foods to smoke, apple and cherry wood chips have a milder flavor and mesquite a stronger flavor.

* A cloche is a glass dome placed over foods or beverages that will be smoked. Some clothes have a small opening to slide the Smoke Infuser Hose through; or the Hose can be placed at the bottom of the cloche, pointing to the center.

If you don't have a cloche, you can use a zipper-lock, food-safe plastic bag: unzip top of bag enough to point the hose into the bag, and seal around the hose. Or you can use a bowl or container and cover with plastic wrap: lift the plastic wrap to insert hose and use the plastic wrap to seal the opening around the Smoke Infuser Hose.
