Frequently Asked Questions - RackStation BC500 SYNOLOGY

How to install the Synology BC500 camera?
Attach the base to the wall by drilling 5.5 mm diameter holes. Route the Ethernet cable through the waterproof cover (for outdoor use) or through the cable channel. Screw the camera onto the base, then adjust the angle by turning the tensioner. Connect power via PoE or DC adapter.
Can the BC500 be used without Surveillance Station?
Yes, but advanced features (recording, alerts) require Surveillance Station version 9.1.0+ or a compatible NVR. You can access an RTSP stream via the Synology Camera Tool or a web interface.
What microSD card is recommended?
Use a microSDHC/SDXC card formatted in exFAT, up to 128 GB. Prefer a class 10 (C10)/UHS-1 (U1) card with a minimum write speed of 10 MB/s.
How to reset the camera to factory settings?
Press and hold the RESET button for 10 seconds (cold restart) to restore all default settings. A 4-second press resets only the credentials and network.
What are the power options?
The BC500 accepts PoE 802.3af (48 V DC) via the RJ-45 port, or a 12 V DC / 1 A power adapter (not included, ∅2.1 mm connector). PoE power is recommended for simplified installation.
What to do if the camera does not connect to the network?
Check that the Ethernet cable is properly connected and that the PoE switch powers the camera. If no DHCP server is present, the default IP address is 192.168.0.50. Use the Synology Camera Tool to locate it.
Is the camera waterproof?
Yes, it has an IP67 rating, meaning it is protected against dust and temporary immersion. For outdoor use, properly install the included RJ-45 connector cover.
How to access the RTSP stream?
Use the address rtsp://[IP address]/[stream number] (e.g., rtsp://192.168.0.50/1 for stream 1). Authentication is required; configure it via the web interface or Surveillance Station.
What does the solid blue LED mean?
A solid blue LED indicates that the system is ready and connected to a Synology NAS/NVR. A slow blink means it is ready but not connected; a fast blink corresponds to startup or reset.
Can I use an Ethernet cable longer than the one provided?
Yes, but respect the maximum length of 100 meters for a copper Ethernet cable (category 5e or higher). For longer distances, use a PoE extender or an additional switch.

Declaration Letter of REACH & RoHS Compliance

About REACH

In June 2007, the European Union Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) was first released. Under this Regulation, manufacturers are required to gather information on the properties of their chemical substances, which will allow their safe handling, and to register the information to European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The aim is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances.

About RoHS

RoHS Directive (EU Directive 2002/95/EC) was issued in 2002, restricted the use of the six chemicals lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium, as well as flame retardants polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated dipheny ethers (PBDEs). Under this directive, manufacturers are required to replace these chemicals in their products with less hazardous alternatives.

Then RoHS 2.0 (Directive 2011/65/EU) has replaced Directive 2002/95/EC since January 3, 2013. In 2015, EU commission publishes Directive (EU) 2015/863 to amend Annex II to EU RoHS 2 (Directive 2011/65/EU) to add 4 phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP) onto the list of restricted substances from 22 July 2019.

REACH and RoHS Compliance

Synology meets all requirements of the REACH Regulation and is compliant to all implemented RoHS type regulations worldwide. To the best of Synology's knowledge, all Synology products in production (including finished

Synology®

products, spare parts, and packaging materials) are in compliance with the requirements of the Regulation and/or Directives. Synology continues to monitor, influence, and develop our processes to comply with any proposed changes to the Regulation and/or Directives.
