Frequently Asked Questions - PowerShot PS3425 Simpson

How to start the Simpson PS3425 pressure washer?
Make sure the engine has oil and gasoline. Connect the water hose, turn on the faucet, purge air by squeezing the trigger until a steady stream is obtained. Move the choke lever to CHOKE position if engine is cold. Pull the starter cord. After starting, move the choke lever to NO CHOKE.
What to do if the engine won't start?
Check oil level (low oil = no start). Add gasoline if necessary. Make sure the spark plug is connected. If the engine stalls after two attempts, squeeze the trigger to relieve pump pressure, then pull the cord slowly until resistance is felt before pulling quickly. Refer to the engine guide for more details.
How to apply chemicals?
Attach the chemical hose to the pump's barb fitting. Place the other end in the chemical. Use the low pressure black nozzle on the wand. Set the Dial-N-Wash to MAX for optimal suction. After use, flush the system by siphoning clean water.
How to clean a clogged nozzle?
Turn off the engine and shut off water. Squeeze the trigger to relieve pressure. Remove the nozzle from the spray gun. Use the included cleaning tool to remove the clog. Back-flush the nozzle with clean water for 30 seconds. Reattach the nozzle and test.
What oil to use for the pump?
Use SIMPSON® Premium Pump Oil or alternatively SAE 15W-40 oil. For CAT® pumps, use non-detergent hydraulic oil ISO 68. Check the level at the middle of the sight glass. Change after first 50 hours, then every 100 hours.
How to winterize the unit?
Add a fuel stabilizer (Ethanol Shield™ sold separately) and run the engine for 10 minutes. Shut off the fuel supply and let the engine run until it stops due to lack of fuel. Inject pump protector liquid (SIMPSON® Pump Guard) into the pump by pulling the cord. Drain water from hoses and gun.
Why is the pressure low?
Check that the water source supplies at least 20 PSI and 5 gallons/minute. The nozzle may be clogged (clean it). The inlet filter may be clogged. Make sure the high pressure hose is not longer than 30 m. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
How to change nozzles?
Turn off the engine and shut off water. Pull back the quick connect coupler, insert the nozzle, release the coupler and twist the nozzle to verify it is secure. Never change nozzles while the unit is running.
Is it possible to use hot water?
No, use cold water only. Hot water will damage the pump and void the warranty.
What to do in case of a water leak?
Check hose connections and tighten them. If the leak is from the pump, it could be worn o-rings or piston packings. Contact customer service at www.simpsoncleaning.com. Do not use the unit if the leak is significant.
